Hyperfine fields and magnetoelastic surface effects in Fe72Cu1.5Nb4Si13.5B9 nanocrystalline alloy

In this work hyperfine fields of two-phase nanocrystalline Fe72Cu1.5Nb4Si13.5B9 alloys were studied in order to verify the existence of surface effects. To obtain a series of nanocrystalline samples with small grains of different sizes, a special non- -isothermal annealing procedure of an initially amorphous ribbon was applied. In the case of samples with a significant amount of crystallites, a high field (about 27.5 T) component of continuous part of the hyperfine field distribution was found that could be attributed to boundary regions between the grains and rest of the sample. The existence of the surface effects was confirmed in the magnetostrictive experimen

We report the discovery by B. G. Harris and S. Dvorak on JD 2455224.9385 (2010 Jan 28.4385 UT) of the predicted eruption of the recurrent nova U Scorpii (U Sco). We also report on 815 magnitudes (and 16 useful limits) on the pre-eruption light curve in the UBVRI and Sloan r' and i' bands from 2000.4 up to 9 hours before the peak of the January 2010 eruption. We found no significant long-term variations, though we did find frequent fast variations (flickering) with amplitudes up to 0.4 mag. We show that U Sco did not have any rises or dips with amplitude greater than 0.2 mag on timescales from one day to one year before the eruption. We find that the peak of this eruption occurred at JD 2455224.69+-0.07 and the start of the rise was at JD 2455224.32+-0.12. From our analysis of the average B-band flux between eruptions, we find that the total mass accreted between eruptions is consistent with being a constant, in agreement with a strong prediction of nova trigger theory. The date of the next eruption can be anticipated with an accuracy of +-5 months by following the average B-band magnitudes for the next ~10 years, although at this time we can only predict that the next eruption will be in the year 2020+-2.Comment: Astronomical Journal submitted, 36 pages, 3 figures, full table

The aim of this study was to find the optimal natural substrate for spore multiplication of entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana (Bals. -Criv.) Vuill. 1912 and to evaluate the effectiveness of B. bassiana for the management of larvae of cockchafer Melolontha melolontha (L.). (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) and click beetles Agriotes lineatus (L.) (Coleoptera: Elateridae). In laboratory conditions, among four types of grains, wheat was the most appropriate substrate for mass production of B. bassiana spores was wheat. The highest mortality of white grubs and wireworms was observed five weeks after inoculation B. bassiana spores in concentration 106 and was respectively 27.5% and 30%.Celem badań było znalezienie optymalnego naturalnego substratu do namnażania entomopatogenicznego grzyba Beauveria bassiana (Bals. -Criv.) Vuill. 1912 oraz określenie przydatności tego grzyba do zwalczania larw chrabąszcza majowego Melolontha melolontha (L.). (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) i larw osiewnika rolowca Agriotes lineatus (L.) (Coleoptera: Elateridae). W badaniach laboratoryjnych, spośród czterech rodzajów zbóż, najlepszym substratem do produkcji zarodników grzyba B. bassiana były ziarna pszenicy. Największa śmiertelność pędraków i drutowców obserwowana była po 5 tygodniach od aplikacji zarodników grzyba w koncentracji 106 i wynosiła odpowiednio 27,5% i 30%

The aim of the study was to determine the effect of various biopreparations on the growth of the apple root system, the number of spores of AMF, the total number of bacteria and microscopic fungi in the rhizosphere soil, and the degree of mycorrhizal association in the roots of two apple tree cultivars. The experiment was established in the spring of 2009 in the Experimental Orchard of the Institute of Horticulture in Dąbrowice. The research objects were one-year-old maidens of the apple cultivars ‘Topaz’ and ‘Ariva’ grafted on M26 rootstock. The trees were treated with the following biopreparations: control, control NPK (standard NPK fertilization), manure, Micosat F + manure, Humus UP, Humus Active + Aktywit PM, BioFeed Amin + manure, BioFeed Quality + manure, Tytanit + manure, Vinassa + manure, Florovit Eko, and Florovit Pro Natura. Treatment of ‘Topaz’ and ‘Ariva’ apple trees with the biopreparations Micosat F, Humus UP, Humus Active + Aktywit PM, BioFeed Amin, Vinassa, Florovit Eko and Florovit Pro Natura produced positive effects on the growth of apple roots and their mycorrhizal frequency, and the size of the populations of microorganisms in the rhizosphere soil. Rośliny traktowano następującymi biopreparatami: kontrola, kontrola NPK, obornik, Micosat F + obornik, Humus UP, Humus Active + Aktywit PM, BioFeed Amin + obornik, BioFeed Quality + obornik, Tytanit + obornik, Vinassa + obornik, Florovit Eco oraz preparat Florovit Pro Nature. Traktowanie drzew jabłoni ‘Topaz’ i ‘Ariva’ biopreparatami Micosat F, Humus UP, Humus Active + Aktywit PM, BioFeed Amin, Vinassa, Florovit Eco oraz Florovit Pro Nature wpłynęło korzystnie na wzrost korzeni, stopień frekwencji mikoryzowej i wielkość populacji mikroorganizmów w glebie rizosferowej

Modelling Energy Security: The Case of Dutch Urban Energy Communities

Energy communities are gaining momentum in the context of the energy transition. Given the distributed and collective action nature of energy communities, energy security of these local energy systems is more than just security of supply and related to issues such as affordability and acceptability of energy to members of the community. We build an agent-based model of energy communities to explore their security challenges. The security dimensions we consider are availability, affordability, accessibility and acceptability, which are referred to as the 4As. The results confirmed that there is always a trade-off between all four dimensions and that although it is difficult to achieve a high energy security performance, it is feasible. Results also showed that among factors influencing energy security, the investment of the community plays the biggest role

A policy view: gaps and weaknesses of substitution between biological products in law and economics dimension: the example of insulin

    No full text
The purpose of the study is to analyze the act of substitution between biological products. Diabetes mellitus notes the greatest increase in the projected causes of deaths globally till 2030. The proper drug substitution process may help to increase the control over the disease management. In this paper authors try to identify and explain the challenges for the health policies and legislations in emerging markets and low- and middle-income countries. Analysis of retrospective data covering prescribed-dispensed insulin products was performed. The study is based on the law and economics approach with the application of the planning theory and modeling. The study shows the scope of substitution process of insulin and highlights the necessity of univocal legal approach profiled for this therapy area. Prognosis of created base model indicates at constant presence of substitution process of insulin. Substitution is to bring financial savings for patients, it is yet however unknown whether savings arising from the act of purchase will still have positive impact on undertaken therapy process in long-term period. These findings may inform about important factors and how emerging markets and low- and middle-income countries can increase progress of the substitution process
