    Instructional Design For The Teaching Of Speaking Skill At SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surakarta: A Naturalistic Study

    This research aims at describing the instructional design for the teaching of speaking skill at SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surakarta. It is conducted to know the implementation of the instructional design for the teaching speaking to the eight grade students in SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surakarta.The researcher gets the data of this research from event, informant and document. The method of collecting data are observation in teaching speaking process and interview the teacher about the implementation of the instructional design of teaching speaking.The result of the analysis shows that the implementation of instructional design is as follows: 1) Learning objectives of teaching speaking are divided into two. The general objective is to develop the speaking skill of the learner communicative competence which includes the knowledge about how to use English appropriately in communicative situation. Then the specific objective is student can use English to make a simple transactional and interpersonal conversation to interact with their environment. 2) classroom procedure used by teacher is: first, engagement and explanation. Second, engagement, explanation and evaluation. Third, engagement, explanation, elaboration and explanation. Fourth, engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration, and evaluation which is called 5E. 3) Classroom techniques used by teacher are as follows: question and answer, discussion, role playing, games, giving feedback, and summarizing. 4) The material used by the teacher was generally taken from some sources based on the syllabus. The teacher used textbook published by Kemdikbud as the printed material. The teacher also takes material from both printed and nonprinted source as access material on the internet or other resources such as picture. 5) The roles of teacher at SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surakarta are facilitator, group organizer, motivator, and manager. 6) The roles of students at SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surakarta are as active participant, member of group, learner’s monitor and evaluate their own progress. 7) The media used by the teacher at SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surakarta are: picture, audio, video and LCD. The teachers of SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surakarta do not always use all the component of instructional design in teaching speaking especially in explorationcircle

Data of the research are divided into two, primary data and secondary data. The primary data of the research is Little Women novel and secondary data of the research are other materials related to the study. The result of the study shows the following conclusion. Based on the analysis it shows that there is a close relation between the novel and the social reality in the second half of the nineteenth century. Louisa May Alcott wants to show that humanity and morality values are important in social life, because it can make the harmonious relation between one and the others

    This research aims at analyzing necessity of vengeance in the Count of Monte Cristo novel by using Psychoanalytic Criticism. The major problem in this research is to describe how necessity of vengeance is reflected in Alexandre Dumas’ the Count of Monte Cristo. The research consists of two objectives: analyzing the novel based on structural elements and analyzing the novel based on psychoanalytic criticism. This study uses qualitative research. The object of the study is the Count of Monte Cristo novel written by Alexandre Dumas. There are two kinds of data source: primary and secondary. The primary data source is the text of the novel Alexandre Dumas’s Count of Monte Cristo and the secondary data sources are some books and article related to the subject. The method of collecting data in the research is library research by summarizing, paraphrasing, and documenting the data. In analyzing the data, the writer applies descriptive analysis. The result of the research bears some conclusions: first, based on psychoanalytic analysis, the main character, Count of Monte Cristo, is a man who has a pleasure seeking personality. Second, vengeance is necessary for Count to restore his selfesteem and to punish their enemies in order to make them aware of their mistakes. Last, Dumas writes the Count of Monte Cristo novel as a mirror of society which describes that there are many individuals exacting vengeance in society and also as an advice to society to prevent vengeance as a means of curing the pain

The writer applies descriptive study as the type of this research. The data are collected by using document analysis technique. The data are the materials in the English textbook “Bright”. The writer uses descriptive analysis as the technique for analyzing data, the steps are: (1) collecting the data in the “Bright” textbook, (2) tabulating the data into the table to find the types of reading text questions on the Bright textbook, (3) analyzing the data. The result of this study shows that there are five types of question in the English textbook “Bright”. There are question of literal comprehension, question involving reorganization or reinterpretatin, question of inference, question of evaluation, and question of personal response. The dominan question is question of literal comprehension

    This study deals with the ambiguity which is found in Backpack 4 English textbook. The aims of this study are (1) to describe the types of ambiguity found in Backpack 4 English textbook, (2) to describe the frequency of each type of ambiguity, (3) to describe the dominant type of ambiguity, (4) to describe the causes of ambiguity, and (5) to describe the way to disambiguate ambiguity. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The data source of this research is ambiguous words, phrases and sentences found in Backpack 4 English textbook. The data collection technique is documentation. The technique of data analysis are descriptive qualitative. The writer uses the theories from Fauziyati, Kreidler, Robert, Roadman and Hyme to analyze the types of ambiguity. The result of this study shows that (1) the writer found three from four types of ambiguity namely: lexical ambiguity, referential ambiguity, and surface structure ambiguity; (2) the frequency of each type of ambiguity are 43 lexical ambiguity (24,57%), 74 referential ambiguity (42,29 %), 58 surface structure ambiguity (33,14 %), and 0 deep structure ambiguity (0%); (3) the dominat types of ambiguity is referential ambiguity; there are 74 ambiguous sentences or 42,29%; (4) the causes of ambiguity are without context, ambiguous word order, improper or missing punctuation, faulty sentence construction, ambiguous words, and faulty pronoun reference; and (5) the way to disambiguate ambiguity are using paraphrasing, truth conditional sentences, adding preposition, moving sentence construction, adding additional context, adding correct punctuation and using picture

    The research is proposed to analyse conflicts of cultural values in “The Namesake” novel by using Sociological Perspective. The major problem in this article is to explain how the conflicts of cultural values happen in Jhumpa Lahiri’s “The Namesake”. The object of study is “The Namesake” novel written by Jhumpa Lahiri. Qualitative study is a method which is used to analyze conflicts of cultural values reflected in the novel. The primary data is taken from the novel itself and the secondary data sources are other resources related the study such as dictionary, website, some books that support the analysis. The techniques of collecting data are reading the original novel several time, determining the character that will be analyzed, taking note of the important thing both the primary data and secondary data, and classifying and determining the relevant data. The techniques of data analysis are as follows: the first is analyzing of the novel, the second is analyzing the data based on sociological perspective. The results of this study are, first, based on the structural analysis of each element, it shows that the character and characterization, setting, plot, point of view, style, and theme are related to each other and form the unity into a good quality novel. Second, based on Sociological Perspective, the conclusion is that the second generation of Indian immigrant in America prefer to use Indian culture but the second generation of Indian prefer to use American culture

The method to analyze of this data is descriptive analysis. Based on structural elements of the novel, Paulo Coelho delivers a moral message that “the strategy of life is one of the element to survive and cope the problem of human life”. Based on the individual psychological analysis, the author illustrates a psychological phenomenon which an individual should make every effort to cope with the problem of life. The psychological phenomenon is shown by the struggle of Maria to survive in Switzerland after as fraud victim. Maria uses her creativity to manage her strategy.
