The vas deferens is innervated by fibers of sympathetic hypogastric nerve and contains high contents of norepinephrine. Contraction of vats deferens is elicited via ฮฑ-adreneergic receptor by norepinephrine or stimulations of hypogastric nerve, and the response is blocked by adrenergic ฮฑ-blocking agents or reserpinization. On the contrary, it is suggested that norepinephrine also causes activation of presynaptic ฮฑ^^2-receptor and has inhibitory effect on the motility of vas deferent. Moreover, vas deferens contains choline acetylase and acetylcholinesterase, which might be interpreted as evidences for the involvement of cholinergic mechanism in adrenergic transmission as well as for the independent mechanism of cholinergic and adrenergic fibers. The possibility, however, might exist that neurotransmitter other than norepinephrine and acetylcholine might be involved in motor transmission of vas deferens. Present study, therefore, was undertaken in order to investigate the effects of autonomic drugs, combined with the electrical field stimulation, on the contractile response of distal portion of vas deferent in guinea pig. The results are summerized as follows : 1. Both norepinephrine and acetylcholine evoked excitatory response on the motility of resting vas deferens in guinea pig. 2. Electrical field stimulation for 0.5 second (1m sec at a frequency of 40cps) at an interval of 30 seconds with increasing voltage induced contraction of vats deferent, which was completely blocked by tetrodotoxin and atropine. 3. Electric field stimulation-induced contraction of distal portion of vats deferens was inhibited by norepinephrine (10**-5 M), but the contraction of middle and proximal portion was rather augmented by norepinephrine. 4. Electric field stimulation-induced contraction of distal portion was potentiated by the pretreatment of yohirmbine (10**-6 M) or phentolamine (10**-7 M). However, at middle and proximal portion high concentration of phentolamine (10**-6 M) blocked the effect of norepinephrine. 5. Isoproterenol (10**-6 M) inhibited the contraction induced by electrical field stimulation, which was not affected by pretreatment of propranolol (10**-6 M). 6. Both methacholine (10**-6 M) and carbachol (10**-6 M) enhanced the electric field stimulation-induced contraction, which was blocked by atropine (10**-6 M), not by hexamethonium(10**-6 M). From these results it is suggested that vats deferens has both adrenergic ฮฑ^^1 and ฮฑ^^2 receptors as well as cholinergic muscarinic receptors. [์˜๋ฌธ] To evaluate clinical significance of pregnancy and delivery in relation to urinary tract infection, clinical observation, urinalysis and urine cultures were made on 460 cases of urine specimens of 230 pregnant women who admitted recently to obstetric department of Ewha Woman's University Hospital. The following result were obtained. 1. The incidence of asymptomatic bacteriuria among 230 term pregnant women was 4.3%(10% cases). 2. The most predominant organisms found in asymptomatic bacteriuria during pregnancy were E. coli with an incidence of 50%. 3. In relationship between maternal bacteriuria and age, increasing age was associated with slightly higher rates of bacteriuria. In relationship between maternal bacteriuria and parity, greater parity was not associated with increased rates of bacteriuria. 4. In relationship between maternal bacteriuria and hypertension, no association was found between the two. 5. In relationship between maternal bacteriuria and maternal anemia, there was no relationship between the two. 6. In relationship between maternal bacteriuria and proteinuria, a sinificant increase in the incidence of proteinuria was found in bacgeriuric patient. 7. The incidence of bacteriuria during the puerperium was 3.6%. 8. The most predominant organisms found in bacteriuria during the puerperium were E.coli with an incidence of 50%, which was the same as in the antepartum. It was concluded that in order to prevent acute pyelonephritis occuring by asymptomatic bacteriuria during pregnancy & urinary tract infections by urethral catheterization performed at delivery, it is supposed to be necessary more careful prenatal and delivery care.restrictio
