First MINOS Results with the NuMI Beam
The results from the initial exposure of the MINOS detectors to neutrinos
produced by the Fermilab NuMI beam are reported here. The exposure consisted of
1.27 x 10^{20} 120 GeV protons incident on the NuMI target. The data show the
observation of 215 neutrinos with energies below 30 GeV while 336 +/- 14.4
events were expected. The data are consistent with nu_mu disappearance via
neutrino oscillations.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures. Prepared for Neutrino Oscillation Workshop 200
The W_L W_L scattering at the LHC: improving the selection criteria
We present a systematic study of the different mechanisms leading to WW pair
production at the LHC, both in the same-sign and opposite-sign channels, and we
emphasize that the former offers much better potential for investigating
non-resonant W_L W_L scattering. We propose a new kinematic variable to isolate
the W_L W_L scattering component in same-sign WW production at the LHC.
Focusing on purely leptonic W decay channels, we show that it considerably
improves the LHC capabilities to shed light on the electroweak symmetry
breaking mechanism after collecting 100 fb^{-1} of data at sqrt{s} = 14 TeV.
The new variable is less effective in the opposite-sign WW channel due to
different background composition.Comment: 25 pages, 32 figure
Charged-Current Disappearance Measurements in the NuMI Off-Axis Beam
This article studies the potential of combining charged-current disappearance
measurements of \nu_{\mu} to \nu_{\tau} from MINOS and an off-axis beam. I find
that the error on \Delta m^2 from a 100 kt-yr off-axis measurement is a few
percent of itself. Further, I find little improvement to an off-axis
measurement by combining it with MINOS.Comment: Presented at NuFact'02. Four pages, three figure
Complementarity of a Low Energy Photon Collider and LHC Physics
We discuss the complementarity between the LHC and a low energy photon
collider. We mostly consider the scenario, where the first linear collider is a
photon collider based on dual beam technology like CLIC.Comment: 29 pages, 37 figure, LP-200
