    Higher Efficiency In Prediction Of TIBO Activity By Evolutionary Neural Network

    The treatment of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a challenging medical problem. TIBO is a nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, which binds non-competitively to the hydrophobic pocket on the p66 subunit of RT enzyme. We used a dataset consisting of physicochemical properties and reverse transcriptase inhibitor activities of 88 set of 4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-y-imidazo-[4,5,1-jk][1,4]-x-benzodiazepin-2-(1h)one derivatives that are variously substituted by halogens, alkyl groups. The dataset was taken from the BIOBYTE database at (www.davidhoekman.com). The concentration of the compound leading to 50% effect has been measured and expressed as IC50. The logarithm of the inverse of this parameter has been used as biological end points (log 1/C) in the QSAR studies. The evolutionary neural network (ENN) is a new system for modeling multivariate data. The strengths of ENN’s are that they can extract insignificant predictors, choose the size of the hidden layers and nodes and fine tune the parameters needed in training the network. We have used an ENN to predict the biological activities of Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors. We have found out that Evolutionary Neural networks are better predictor of activity values than Multiple linear regression and Multilayered Perceptrons. This paper presents five crucial steps that are important to instruct children and pre–teens in the skills necessary to work out the appropriate meaning and application of the Biblical text. Because children and adolescents learn by “doing,” this article suggests core activities to help them understand and develop Bible interpretation skills

    We present results from a transverse lattice study of low lying mesons. Special emphasis is put on the issue of Lorentz invariant energy-momentum dispersion relations for these mesons.     Whole-grain foods and chronic disease: evidence from epidemiological and intervention studies

    Cereal-based foods are key components of the diet and they dominate most food-based dietary recommendations in order to achieve targets for intake of carbohydrate, protein and dietary fibre. Processing (milling) of grains to produce refined grain products removes key nutrients and phytochemicals from the flour and although in some countries nutrients may be replaced with mandatory fortification, overall this refinement reduces their potential nutritional quality. There is increasing evidence from both observational and intervention studies that increased intake of less-refined, whole-grain (WG) foods has positive health benefits. The highest WG consumers are consistently shown to have lower risk of developing CVD, type 2 diabetes and some cancers. WG consumers may also have better digestive health and are likely to have lower BMI and gain less weight over time. The bulk of the evidence for the benefits of WG comes from observational studies, but evidence of benefit in intervention studies and potential mechanisms of action is increasing. Overall this evidence supports the promotion of WG foods over refined grain foods in the diet, but this would require adoption of standard definitions of 'whole grain' and 'whole-grain foods' which will enable innovation by food manufacturers, provide clarity for the consumer and encourage the implementation of food-based dietary recommendations and public health strategies

    On the convergence of spectral deferred correction methods

    In this work we analyze the convergence properties of the Spectral Deferred Correction (SDC) method originally proposed by Dutt et al. [BIT, 40 (2000), pp. 241--266]. The framework for this high-order ordinary differential equation (ODE) solver is typically described wherein a low-order approximation (such as forward or backward Euler) is lifted to higher order accuracy by applying the same low-order method to an error equation and then adding in the resulting defect to correct the solution. Our focus is not on solving the error equation to increase the order of accuracy, but on rewriting the solver as an iterative Picard integral equation solver. In doing so, our chief finding is that it is not the low-order solver that picks up the order of accuracy with each correction, but it is the underlying quadrature rule of the right hand side function that is solely responsible for picking up additional orders of accuracy. Our proofs point to a total of three sources of errors that SDC methods carry: the error at the current time point, the error from the previous iterate, and the numerical integration error that comes from the total number of quadrature nodes used for integration. The second of these two sources of errors is what separates SDC methods from Picard integral equation methods; our findings indicate that as long as difference between the current and previous iterate always gets multiplied by at least a constant multiple of the time step size, then high-order accuracy can be found even if the underlying "solver" is inconsistent the underlying ODE. From this vantage, we solidify the prospects of extending spectral deferred correction methods to a larger class of solvers to which we present some examples.Comment: 29 page
