S-parameter, Technimesons, and Phase Transitions in Holographic Tachyon DBI Models

We investigate some phenomenological aspects of the holographic models based on the tachyon Dirac-Born-Infeld action in the AdS space-time. These holographic theories model strongly interacting fermions and feature dynamical mass generation and symmetry breaking. We show that they can be viewed as models of holographic walking technicolor and compute the Peskin-Takeuchi S-parameter and masses of lightest technimesons for a variety of the tachyon potentials. We also investigate the phase structure at finite temperature and charge density. Finally, we comment on the holographic Wilsonian RG in the context of holographic tachyon DBI models

Topological Entanglement Entropy, Ground State Degeneracy and Holography

Topological entanglement entropy, a measure of the long-ranged entanglement, is related to the degeneracy of the ground state on a higher genus surface. The exact relation depends on the details of the topological theory. We consider a class of holographic models where such relation might be similar to the one exhibited by Chern-Simons theory in a certain large N limit. Both the non-vanishing topological entanglement entropy and the ground state degeneracy in these holographic models are consequences of the topological Gauss-Bonnet term in the dual gravitational description. A soft wall holographic model of confinement is used to generate finite correlation length but keep the disk topology of the entangling surface in the bulk, necessary for nonvanishing topological entanglement entropy.Comment: harvmac, 27 pages, 6 figures, v3: section 4 re-written, references added, accepted to JHE

    Supersymmetry Constraints in Holographic Gravities

    Get PDF
Supersymmetric higher derivative gravities define superconformal field theories via the AdS/CFT correspondence. From the boundary theory viewpoint, supersymmetry implies a relation between the coefficients which determine the three point function of the stress energy tensor which can be tested in the dual gravitational theory. We use this relation to formulate a necessary condition for the supersymmetrization of higher derivative gravitational terms. We then show that terms quadratic in the Riemann tensor do not present obstruction to supersymmetrization, while generic higher order terms do. For technical reasons, we restrict the discussion to seven dimensions where the obstruction to supersymmetrization can be formulated in terms of the coefficients of Weyl anomaly, which can be computed holographically.Comment: 7 pages, harvmac; v2: some comments adde

Energy Flux Positivity and Unitarity in CFTs

We show that in most conformal field theories the condition of the energy flux positivity, proposed by Hofman and Maldacena, is equivalent to the absence of ghosts. At finite temperature and large energy and momenta, the two-point functions of the stress energy tensor develop lightlike poles. The residues of the poles can be computed, as long as the only spin two conserved current, which appears in the stress energy tensor OPE and acquires nonvanishing expectation value at finite temperature, is the stress energy tensor. The condition for the residues to stay positive and the theory to remain ghost free is equivalent to the condition of positivity of energy flux.Comment: 11 pages, harvmac; v2: some clarifications and a reference adde

    On Non-Critical Superstring/Black Hole Transition

An interesting case of string/black hole transition occurs in two-dimensional non-critical string theory dressed with a compact CFT. In these models the high energy densities of states of perturbative strings and black holes have the same leading behavior when the Hawking temperature of the black hole is equal to the Hagedorn temperature of perturbative strings. We compare the first subleading terms in the black hole and closed string entropies in this setting and argue that the entropy interpolates between these expressions as the energy is varied. We compute the subleading correction to the black hole entropy for a specific simple model.Comment: 10 pages; harvma
