Measurements of CP-Violating Asymmetries in B0 to a1(1260)^{+-} pi^{-+} Decays

We present measurements of CP-violating asymmetries in the decay B0 -> a_1(1260)^{+-} pi^{-+} with a_1(1260)^{+-} -> pi^{-+} pi^{+-} pi^{+-}. The data sample corresponds to 384 million B B-bar pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B-factory at SLAC. We measure the CP-violating asymmetry A^{a1pi}_{CP}=-0.07+-0.07+-0.02, the mixing-induced CP violation parameter S_{a1pi}= 0.37 +-0.21+-0.07, the direct CP violation parameter C_{a1pi}=-0.10+-0.15+-0.09, and the parameters DeltaC_{a1pi}=0.26+-0.15+-0.07 and DeltaS_{a1pi}=-0.14+-0.21+-0.06. B Decays and CP Violation from BaBar

We present some recent BABAR measurements of the magnitudes of the elements Vub and Vcb of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark-mixing matrix, and of the angles alpha and gamma of the unitary triangle of the standard model of the electroweak interactions. Searches for New Physics in CP Violation from BaBar

Results of recent searches for new physics in CP violation in charm decays from the BABAR experiment are presented. These results include a measurement of $D^0$ - $\bar{D}^0$ mixing and searches for CP violation in two-body $D^0$ decays, a search for CP violation in the charm decays $D^{\pm} \to K^0_S K^{\pm}$ and $D^{\pm}_s \to K^0_S K^{\pm}$, $K^0_S \pi^{\pm}$, and a search for direct CP violation in the singly-Cabibbo suppressed $D^{\pm} \to K^+ K^- \pi^{\pm}$ decays. These studies are based on the final dataset collected by BABAR at the PEP-II B factory at SLAC in the period 1999-2008. No evidence of CP violation is found in these charm decays. The argali (Ovis ammon antiqua) from the Magliana area (Rome)

During the Middle Pleistocene, the subspecies was widespread from Georgia to Portugal, though it is scantily recorded in local faunal assemblages of Southern Europe. Its occurrence in a few Late Pleistocene sites needs to be confirmed. In Italy, the subspecies is recorded in the late Galerian fauna of Visogliano (MIS 13 - 10) as well as in the Magliana area, where an incomplete skull was found at the beginning of the last century. Although the precise location where this specimen was found is unknown, on the basis of the results of the geochemical analysis performed on a small amount of sediment, sampled from the filling of the inner cavities of the horn-cores, and considering the stratigraphy of the area, the hypothesis that the skull comes from the deposits of the PG4 sequence (MIS14 partim - MIS13) cannot be ruled out. This hypothetical remark would confirm the occurrence in Italy of the argali in late Galerian faunas. The dimensions of Ovis ammon antiqua from the Magliana area fit well within the range of variability of the larger specimens, likely males, found at La Caune de L’Arago (France) (MIS 14-12), from which the Italian specimen differs in having less twisted and more dorso-ventrally curved horn-cores

Recent CKM and CP Results from BaBar

We present recent results of B and charm decays from the BaBar experiment. These results include searches for rare or forbidden charm decays, measurements of $|V_{ub}|$ from inclusive ${\bar B} \rightarrow X_u l {\bar \nu}$ decays, observation of the semileptonic ${\bar B} \rightarrow D^{(*)} \tau^- {\bar \nu}_{\tau}$ decays, direct CP violation asymmetry in $B \rightarrow X_{s+d} \gamma$ and in $D^+\rightarrow K^0_S \pi^+$, and T-violation in $D^+_{(s)} \rightarrow K^+ K^0_S \pi^+ \pi^-$.
