Estephan Douaihy’s Manaratul Aqdas and the Trinitarian paradigm in the Maronite mass

    Get PDF
The Seventeenth Century Maronite Patriarch Estephan Douaihy developed a Trinitarian Paradigm in his masterpiece Manaratul Aqdas in order to highlight the manifestation of the Trinity in the Mass. Through the Trinitarian Paradigm, the Trinity is allegorised in objects, signs, movements, prayers, readings and hymns throughout the liturgy. Priesthood and the design of the church are also parts of Douaihy’s Trinitarian Paradigm. Douaihy liturgises the theology of the Trinity in order to bring the Trinity closer to the average human. With this paradigm, every faithful can relate to the Trinity, not only scholars or theologians. By experiencing the Trinitarian manifestation in the Mass, the faithful can know more about the Triune God and understand God’s love in their own lives. Douaihy draws on the work of the Western and Eastern Fathers of the Church to build his Trinitarian theory. While he adopts the various Trinitarian approaches undertaken by the Church Fathers, including faith, reason, awe, economy and Scripture, Douaihy makes liturgy his main approach. In the Mass, the bond of love between God and the human is perfected through the Eucharistic communion. The Eucharist is the ultimate experience of the Trinity

Manifested flatness defect prediction in cold rolling of thin strips

    No full text
International audienceFlatness defects in thin strip cold rolling are a consequence of roll thermo-elastic deformation, from which heterogeneous strip plastic deformation results. When flatness defects manifest on line, buckling reorganizes the stress field in the pre- and post-bite areas. Comparison with flatness roll measurement requires this effect to be taken into account. A coupled Finite Element Method (FEM) approach is used here to compute stresses and strains in-bite as well as out-of-bite. The detection of buckled (non-flat) areas is demonstrated for a very thin strip cold rolling case. The model is then applied here to two questions, namely the impact on flatness of the heterogeneous temperature field and the effect of friction on optimal setting of a flatness actuator, Work Roll Bending

Coupled rolling and buckling model for friction-sensitive setting of flatness actuators

International audienceFlatness defects in thin strip cold rolling are a consequence of buckling due to roll thermo-elastic deformation and the resulting heterogeneous strip plastic deformation. A coupled rolling - buckling model has been developed [Abdelkhalek et al. 2011]. It has shown that (i) taking buckling into account results in completely different stress fields and fits correctly the measured on-line residual stresses under tension ("stress-meter rolls"); (ii) coupling buckling in the post-bite area and the rolling model, whatever the technique, changes little the in-bite fields. The model is applied here to the effect of friction on optimal setting of a flatness actuator, Work Roll Bending

Flatness Defect in Thin Strip Cold Rolling and the Friction Impact on it

    No full text
International audienceFlatness defects are one of the major problems in strip rolling. They are manifested by a wavy shape on the edge, in the center or in between. Waves are most of the time transverse, but all directions can be observed. These defects come from the heterogeneity of the stress field and the resulting buckling of the compressive areas out of the roll bite. This paper is based on the approach proposed by [1-3] and [4], and programmed previously [5-7] in the FEM software LAM3/TEC3 [8]. In the present paper, the latter is enhanced and applied to the impact of friction and strip tension on flatness of a rolled thin strip. The study shows how the optimal setting of Work Roll Bending force (WRB) should be changed when friction varies

Numerical Treatments of Slipping/No-Slip Zones in Cold Rolling of Thin Sheets with Heavy Roll Deformation

    No full text
International audienceIn the thin sheet cold rolling manufacturing process, a major issue is roll elastic deformation and its impact on roll load, torque and contact stresses. As in many systems implying mechanical contact under high loading, a central part is under “sticking friction” (no slip) while both extremities do slip to accommodate the material acceleration of the rolled metal sheet. This is a crucial point for modeling of such rolling processes and the numerical treatment of contact and friction (“regularized” or not), of the transition between these zones, does have an impact on the results. Two ways to deal with it are compared (regularization of the stick/slip transition, direct imposition of a no-slip condition) and recommendations are given

Méthode multi-échelle pour la modélisation du flambage des tÎles minces sous contraintes résiduelles - Application au laminage

    No full text

Evolutionary Games with Affine Fitness Functions: Applications to Cancer

We analyze the dynamics of evolutionary games in which fitness is defined as an affine function of the expected payoff and a constant contribution. The resulting inhomogeneous replicator equation has an homogeneous equivalent with modified payoffs. The affine terms also influence the stochastic dynamics of a two-strategy Moran model of a finite population. We then apply the affine fitness function in a model for tumor-normal cell interactions to determine which are the most successful tumor strategies. In order to analyze the dynamics of concurrent strategies within a tumor population, we extend the model to a three-strategy game involving distinct tumor cell types as well as normal cells. In this model, interaction with normal cells, in combination with an increased constant fitness, is the most effective way of establishing a population of tumor cells in normal tissue.Comment: The final publication is available at http://www.springerlink.com, http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s13235-011-0029-

Multiphase and multiscale approaches for modelling the injection of textured moulds

    No full text
International audienceMicro-injection moulding is frequently used for the mass production of devices in micro-medical technologies, micro-optics and micro-mechanics. This work focuses mainly on offering numerical tools to model the injection of micro-textured moulds. Such tools can predict the different filling scenarios of the micro-details and consequently offer optimal operating conditions (mould and melt temperatures, melt flow, stresses, etc.) to analyse the final part quality. To do so, a full Eulerian approach is used to model the injection of textured moulds at both the macroscopic and microscopic scales as usual industrial software cannot handle the filling of micro details. Since heat transfers with the mould are very relevant due to high cooling rates, the coupling between micro-and macro-simulations is primordial to insure a complete and accurate representation of textured mould injection

This document presents, a preliminary study towards the measurement of the CKM angle through the tree level decay B --> D[hh]K᜚[Ksπ] where hh = K+K−, π+π− or Kπ. Using the LHCb data collected in 2011 2012 and the Monte Carlo simulation sample, a selection on discriminating variables has been preformed in order to purify the decay chain from the background events. Following the selection cuts, the reconstructed invariant mass distributions of the particles Ks,Kπ,D,B were presented. The subsisting events were split based on D’s final state and B’s charge. Afterwards, they were used for the GLW and ADS methods where the CP violation observables AADS, RADS, ACP+, RCP+ were measured experimentally.

Introducing B2i2C: an M-commerce model for SMEs

    Get PDF
SMEs represent a major part of the world economy, however they face major challenges in breaking into electronic commerce and specifically mobile commerce. This paper studies the transition to m-commerce in the context of SMEs in the UK and Kuwait. By conducting a review of the top downloaded applications from four application stores and reflecting on the most successful breakthroughs, the authors identify a business model for SMEs. This model is introduced as B2i2C. In this model, intermediaries businesses provide value and opportunities for SMEs as well as allowing consumers to better compare and customize products or services. This outcome suggests that the presence of an intermediary is not just a specific case for a specific region; it could be a generalized world wide beyond the UK and Kuwait
