Cheat River is a novel about balancing family obligations against self-preservation. That is what\u27s at stake for Allison and Andrew McKenna, a pair of siblings in rural Appalachia who must endure their father\u27s abandonment and their pregnant mother\u27s breakdown. At first, the two find solace from their parents\u27 problems on the banks of the river from which the novel takes its name. But eventually, Andrew\u27s homosexual feelings drive him to the bohemian streets of Philadelphia in the early \u2790s where he falls in with political activists and a household of misfits. The entry level for the dental hygiene profession has, historically been an associate degree. In 2016 the American Dental Hygiene Association (ADHA) approved the Bachelor’s Degree level of education as the preferred for entry level degree. This study is to determine practicing West Virginia dentists preference for the education level of their entry-level dental hygiene employees. There were 1020 surveys electronically distributed to practicing WV dentists to obtain their opinions and preferences. WVU Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) was used to determine response percentages and Chi-square statistics were used to compare 2017 to 2019 response rates. Between 2016-2017 and 2018-2019, there was a statistical significant difference in dentist’s preference to hire 4-year over 2-year graduates (Chi Square, 5.090, P=.032); however additional pay or the perception of greater knowledge relating to 4-year graduates vs. 2-year graduates failed to reach significance (Chi Square, 0.174; P=.750; Chi Square, 0.368; P=.601, respectively). Dentists in West Virginia do not prefer 4-year vs. 2-year dental hygiene graduates for entry level positions; however, comparing 2016-2017, and 2018-2019, there was a trend for greater preference to hire 4-year vs. 2-year graduates. Proven by this study, there is not financial gain from obtaining the higher degree. For aspiring dental hygiene students who wish to go into other aspects of dental hygiene such as corporate, research and government sectors, a 4-year degree would be the ideal academic path

Effects of creatine supplementation on muscular strength and power development in well-trained football players

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of creatine supplementation on strength and power performance in well-trained football players. Twenty-one subjects were randomly assigned to three treatment groups: 1) creatine monohydrate, 2) creatine monohydrate+dextrose, or 3) placebo utilizing a double-blind design. Prior to assignment, subjects were matched according to lean body mass. After a five day loading dose, a maintenance dose was administered for 12 days. Test protocols included three anaerobic work bouts: l) two 30 s Wingate bike tests interspersed with five minutes recovery were used to ascertain relative and absolute power, 2) two 100 yard sprints with five minutes rest between each bout were used to determine times for 40, 60, and 100 yards sprints, 3) one repetition maximum (1 RM) and 70% 1 RM for the bench press were determinants for muscular strength and endurance. Over the 17 day study, an intense program which combined sprint and resistance training was employed. A two way ANOVA for repeated measures revealed non-significance for the effects of creatine on performance parameters at a 0.05 level of confidence. Within subjects training effects were significant for percent body fat (p\u3c.01), 1RM (p\u3e\u3c.001), peak anaerobic power (p\u3e\u3c.01), and 100 yard sprint (p\u3e\u3c.001). These findings suggest that creatine supplementation does not positively affect performance in previously trained football players. Supported by EAS. \u3e\u3c.01), 1 RM (p\u3c.001), peak anaerobic power (p\u3c.01), and 100 yard spring (p\u3c.001).
