Hierbei spielt folgender Charakterisierungssatz metrisierbarer Räume aus der allgemeinen Topologie ( siehe Kowalsky, [6], 28.8 und 31.4) eine wichtige Rolle: "Ein topologischer Raum ist genau dann metrisierbar, wenn er in das abzählbare Produkt eines Sternraumes einbettbar ist.

thesisA method for estimating fetal birth weight was studied. The method was developed in the early 1950s by Polous and Langstadt. The method was based on the assumption that there was a close statistical correlation between the volume of the gravid uterus and the birth weight of the fetus. The method was developed from a study of twenty-one subjects and had never been studied independently. Birth weight was estimated in ten subjects using Polous and Langstadt's method. Various statistical tests and criteria based tests were used to test the accuracy of the method. It was found the Polous and Langstadt's method for estimating fetal birth weight is not sufficiently accurate to form a meaningful basis for clinical judgment related to birth weight. On the basis of these finding and a review of the literature, it was concluded that neither the method of Polous and Langstadt nor any other method for estimating fetal birth weight is superior abdominal palpation. Since the accuracy of abdominal palpation is know to increase with practice, it is recommended that nurse-midwives and other health care providers who attend laboring women should conscientiously practice this skill to assure that clinical judgments are based on the most accurate assessments possibl

Determination of Testicular Blood Flow in Camelids Using Vascular Casting and Color Pulsed-Wave Doppler Ultrasonography

We describe the vasculature of the camelid testis using plastic casting. We also use color pulsed-wave Doppler ultrasonography to measure testicular blood flow and compare the differences between testicular blood flow in fertile and infertile camelids. The testicular artery originates from the ventral surface of the aorta, gives rise to an epididymal branch, and becomes very tortuous as it approaches the testis. Within the supratesticular arteries, peak systolic velocity (PSV) was higher in fertile males compared to infertile males (P = 0.0004). In addition, end diastolic velocity (EDV) within the supratesticular arteries was higher for fertile males when compared to infertile males (P = 0.0325). Within the marginal arteries, PSV was also higher in fertile males compared to infertile males (P = 0.0104). However, EDV within the marginal arteries was not significantly different between fertile and infertile males (P = 0.121). In addition, the resistance index was not significantly different between fertile and infertile males within the supratesticular (P = 0.486) and marginal arteries (P = 0.144). The significance of this research is that in addition to information obtained from a complete reproductive evaluation, a male camelid's fertility can be determined using testicular blood flow measured by Doppler ultrasonography
