    We discuss how SU(1, 1) coherent states from the discrete series allow for a natural coarse graining operation. The physical application is quantum theories based on a set of three extensive observables whose Poisson algebra is isomorphic to su(1, 1). In particular, we show that a Perelomov coherent state with representation label Nj(0) and spinor label z encodes the physics of N independent subsystems with labels j(0), z. This property is suggested by existing results for the expectation values and variances of the observables. We prove that it holds for all higher moments. Our results in particular apply to a recent quantum cosmology model that has been derived using SU(1,1) group theoretic quantisation techniques. For it, it follows that a certain notion of fiducial cell independence holds exactly at the quantum level when using the coherent states. (C) 2019 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V

    Investigation wettability of carbon components with the polyurethane binder of resistive composites

    The research paper deals with influence wettability of carbon components with the polyurethane binder of resistive composites. We have revealed that the polyurethane lacquer wets up to 25 wt. % of C-1 and GE-3 particles, which results in their uniform distribution over the entire volume of the binder and homogeneity of RCMs. Zero wetting of the same weight percentage is observed in the case of K-163 carbon black, which gives rise to caking and distortion of homogeneity of the composite coating after its formation and its further cracking after heat treatment. The wetting capacity of K-163 carbon black in the polyurethane lacquer is improved using a DISPERBYK-2155 dispersing agent in the amount of 10 wt. % with respect to the binder. The resulting experimental data indicate that C-1 particles exhibit the best wettability, hence their adhesion strength with the binder would be higher than that of GE-3 graphite element and K-163 carbon black

    Radiotherapy for tumors of the stomach and gastroesophageal junction - a review of its role in multimodal therapy

    There is broad consensus on surgical resection being the backbone of curative therapy of gastric- and gastroesophageal junction carcinoma. Nevertheless, details on therapeutic approaches in addition to surgery, such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy or radiochemotherapy are discussed controversially; especially whether external beam radiotherapy should be applied in addition to chemotherapy and surgery is debated in both entities and differs widely between regions and centers. Early landmark trials such as the Intergroup-0116 and the MAGIC trial must be interpreted in the context of potentially insufficient lymph node resection. Despite shortcomings of both trials, benefits on overall survival by radiochemotherapy and adjuvant chemotherapy were confirmed in populations of D2-resected gastric cancer patients by Asian trials. Recent results on junctional carcinoma patients strongly suggest a survival benefit of neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy in curatively resectable patients. An effect of chemotherapy in the perioperative setting as given in the MAGIC study has been confirmed by the ACCORD07 trial for junctional carcinomas; however both the studies by Stahl et al. and the excellent outcome in the CROSS trial as compared to all other therapeutic approaches indicate a superiority of neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy as compared to perioperative chemotherapy in junctional carcinoma patients. Surgery alone without neoadjuvant or perioperative therapy is considered suboptimal in patients with locally advanced disease. In gastric carcinoma patients, perioperative chemotherapy has not been compared to adjuvant radiochemotherapy in a randomized setting. Nevertheless, the results of the recently published ARTIST trial and the Chinese data by Zhu and coworkers, indicate a superiority of adjuvant radiochemotherapy as compared to adjuvant chemotherapy in terms of disease free survival in Asian patients with advanced gastric carcinoma. The ongoing CRITICS trial is supposed to provide reliable conclusions about which therapy should be preferred in Western patients with gastric carcinoma. If radiotherapy is performed, modern approaches such as intensity-modulated radiotherapy and image guidance should be applied, as these methods reduce dose to organs at risk and provide a more homogenous coverage of planning target volumes

    Constraining Weil-Petersson volumes by universal random matrix correlations in low-dimensional quantum gravity

    Based on the discovery of the duality between Jackiw-Teitelboim quantum gravity and a double-scaled matrix ensemble by Saad, Shenker and Stanford in 2019, we show how consistency between the two theories in the universal Random Matrix Theory (RMT) limit imposes a set of constraints on the volumes of moduli spaces of Riemannian manifolds. These volumes are given in terms of polynomial functions, the Weil-Petersson volumes, solving a celebrated nonlinear recursion formula that is notoriously difficult to analyze. Since our results imply linear relations between the coefficients of the Weil-Petersson volumes, they therefore provide both a stringent test for their symbolic calculation and a possible way of simplifying their construction. In this way, we propose a long-term program to improve the understanding of mathematically hard aspects concerning moduli spaces of hyperbolic manifolds by using universal RMT results as input
