Moderating Urbanization and Managing Growth: How Can Colombo Prevent the Emerging Chaos?
This paper examines urbanization trends, the growth of Colombo and its present state of development. It looks at the approaches to the planned interventions in the city and demonstrates how a uni-directional urban development has had a detrimental impactColombo, urban development, managing urbanization, planning, housing,
A preliminary study on the cuttlefish catches from the Wadge Bank trawler fishery
Although much work has been done on the evaluation of the Wadge Bank fishery data, no detailed study has been made in the past on the analysis of cuttlefish catches. In this paper an attempt has been made to analyse this data in order to gather a preliminary knowledge of seasonal and annual variation in the availability, distribution by depth and catches in relation to the time of the day

Stock market development and economic growth: war and post war evidence from Sri Lanka.
This paper aims to investigate the relationship between stock market development and economic growth in Sri Lanka for the period of 2004 to 2014. Interestingly this period includes the extensive civil war period and post war period prevailed in Sri Lanka. For the purpose of measuring the stock market development four proxies applied in this paper namely; Market Capitalization Ratio, Change in number of Listed Companies, Total Value Traded Ratio and Turnover Ratio. The economic growth is measured by the changes in Gross Domestic Production at constant price. We use Johansen Cointegration test to explore long term relationship between stock market development and economic growth. Previous literature suggests that it is the most relevant model to examine long run equilibrium between variables. By employing Granger Causality test, we investigate causal relationship between stock market development and economic growth. All the statistical tests are carried out for both the war and post war period. The results confirmed the existence of long term equilibrium between stock market development and economic growth. Also, the results demonstrate causality between stock market development and economic growth both during the war period and post war period

Minimum DC link Voltages for the Generator Bridge Converter of a SCIG Based Variable Speed Wind Turbine with Fully Rated Converters
Squirrel Cage Induction Generator (SCIG) based variable speed wind turbine with Fully Rated Converters (FRC) is a popular choice in the industry for the modern multi mega-watt wind turbines. Typical FRC system uses a fixed DC link voltage that allows operation in all steady state and dynamic operating conditions while allowing the modulation index of the PWM scheme to vary. However, the analysis made in this paper shows that at steady state, in the maximum power point tracking region where the turbine is operated at variable speeds with generator controlled using Rotor Flux Oriented Control (R-FOC), it is possible to operate the Generator Bridge (GB) converter with significantly lower DC link voltages than the fixed value used, by maintaining maximum modulation index in the PWM scheme. This paper presents a methodology of determining the minimum DC link voltages for such a system supported by simulation results showing the successful operation of a GB converter with minimum DC link voltages in the maximum power point tracking region
Content based hybrid sms spam filtering system
World has changed. Everybody is connected.
Almost each and everyone have a mobile phone. Millions of
SMSs are going around the world over mobile networks in
every second. But about 113 of them are spam. SMS spam has
become a crucial problem with the increase of mobile
penetration around the world. SMS spam filtering is a
relatively new task which inherits many issues and solutions
from email spam filtering. However it poses its own specific
challenges. Server based approaches and Mobile application
based approaches are accommodate content based and
content less mechanism to do the SMS spam filtering. Though
there are approaches, still there is a lack of a hybrid solution
which can do general filtering at server level while user
specific filtering can be done on mobile level. This paper
presents a hybrid solution for SMS spam filtering where both
feature phone users as well as smart phone users get benefited.
Feature phone users can experience the general filter while
smart phone users can configure and filter SMSs based on
their own preferences rather than sticking in to a general
filter. Server level solution consists of a neural network along
with a Bayesian filter and device level filter consists of a
Bayesian filter. We have evaluated the accuracy of neural
network using spam huge dataset along with some randomly
used personal SMSs
