In the case of the GLC we learnt that we need to develop criteria for the evaluation of local economic strategies, which became the starting point of a four-year research programme (1988—1992) on "Exploration and evaluation of local strategies in crisis areas" (IFP Lokale Ökonomie, 1990; 1991), carried out by an interdisciplinary research group which adopted its name from Sam's programmatic new journal. At that time the term "local economy" was totally unknown in Germany - in contrast with the present situation where it is widely accepted. But the great message from that small office was not only a new name, but a full new agenda: Local Economic Development has become a key phrase for employment and regeneration policies in crisis regions: And the demise of the GLC was definitely not the end of local economic strategies, but the beginning of a growing movement all over Europe

On the base of delimitations of the subject, the emergence and development of the third sector is discussed, its relevance, impact and potential presented, and recommendations for its further development are made
Reconstructing the 1855 cholera epidemic in Basel using geographic information visualization
This Master’s thesis reconstructs the cholera epidemic of Basel in the year 1855 by means of geographic information visualization. The spatial and spatio-temporal patterns of the cholera outbreak were analyzed using maps and graphs along with po- tential influencing factors such as topography, river courses, and sources of drinking water.
The data used in this thesis consist of historical archive sources on cholera cases that were digitized and geocoded. Additional historical and contemporary sources such as census data from the years 1850 and 1860, historical maps, and geodata on possible influencing factors were processed to approximate the era of the cholera epidemic. The datasets were collected in a geographic information system and were explored and visualized using maps and graphs.
In total, 382 of the 399 recorded cholera cases were assigned to their respective ad- dresses in the city of Basel. The resulting maps revealed cholera case accumulations in Kleinbasel, especially on Rheingasse street in the surroundings of a drinking water well. In Grossbasel, cases occurred in clusters mostly in the Birsig river valley with fewer cases in the more elevated parts of the city.
The results stand in relation to contemporary cholera research classifying contami- nated drinking water, elevation, and river proximity as risk factors in the contraction of cholera (World Health Organization 2022, Luque Fernandez et al. 2012, X. Wang and Yang 2021). With this digitization and processing of the historical data, further research can be conducted, e.g. using spatial analysis and statistics, or epidemiology
Impaired Personality Functioning in Children and Adolescents Assessed with the LoPF-Q 6-18 PR in Parent-Report and Convergence with Maladaptive Personality Traits and Personality Structure in School and Clinic Samples
To investigate if the Personality Disorder (PD) severity concept (Criterion A) of the ICD-11
and DSM-5 AMPD is applicable to children and adolescents, following the ICD-11 lifespan perspective
of mental disorders, age-specific and informant-adapted assessment tools are needed. The LoPF-Q
6-18 PR (Levels of Personality Functioning Questionnaire Parent Rating) was developed to assess
Impaired Personality Functioning (IPF) in children aged 6–18 in parent-reported form. It is based on
the established self-report questionnaire LoPF-Q 12-18. Psychometric properties were investigated
in a German-speaking clinical and school sample containing 599 subjects. The final 36-item version
of LoPF-Q 6-18 PR showed good scale reliabilities with 0.96 for the total scale IPF and 0.90-0.87 for
the domain scales Identity, Self-direction, Empathy, and Intimacy/Attachment and an acceptable
model fit in a hierarchical CFA with CFI = 0.936, RMSEA = 0.078, and SRMR = 0.068. The total
score discriminated significantly and with large effect sizes between the school population and
(a) adolescent PD patients (d = 2.7 standard deviations) and (b) the younger patients (6–11-year-olds)
with internalizing and externalizing disorders (d = 2.2 standard deviations). Informant agreement
between parent and self-report was good at 0.47. Good construct validity can be assumed given
sound covariation with related measures of psychopathology (CBCL 4-18, STiP-5.1, OPD-CA2-SQ
PR) and maladaptive traits (PID5BF+ M CA IRF) in line with theory and matching the result patterns
obtained in older samples in self-report. The results suggest that parent-reported assessments of IPF
and maladaptive traits are equivalent to self-reported measures for Criterion A and B. Assessing IPF
as early as age six might be a valuable step to foster early detection of PD, or maladaptive personality
development, respectively individuals at risk
