The Cache Cow: Can Caching and Copyright Co-exist?, 6 J. Marshall Rev. Intell. Prop. L. 101 (2006)

Copyright protection in a digital environment is difficult. Protection is made more difficult because of the scope of the Internet, uncertainty of a governing Internet agency, and copyright enforcement problems. Copyright protection is further complicated because search engines utilize a process involving copying web sites and displaying cached links to web sites without the web site owner\u27s express permission. By analyzing the intersection of copyright law and the search engine caching process, it is clear that search engines are on dangerous ground and possibly violate the copyrights of web site owners. Accordingly, a solution is proposed that compensates web site owners and ensures that search engines operate within the bounds of copyright

Safety in the workplace has always been a topic of discussion. Improving safety in the workplace and its effects on employees is becoming increasingly important in the workplace due to minor through to tragic events happening in the workplace every day. These events can become extremely costly. The vision of this organization in regards to this project is to keep everyone as safe as they can through training and consistent practices. Every seven seconds an American worker is injured in the workplace. That is an unacceptable injury rate of 12,900 incidents a day. Organizations need to find a way to instill in employees that using safety equipment is important. Organizations and its employees need to at a minimum cut this injury rate by supplying, training, and using all safety equipment. This initiative will be accomplished through training and competencies. Presentation video available here

Groundwater contamination by selenium, nitrate, coliform bacteria, and volatile organic compounds in the Las Vegas Valley, Nevada, shallow aquifer zone

A network of 27 shallow groundwater monitoring wells in the Las Vegas Valley, Nevada, was sampled for selenium, nitrate, coliform bacteria and 37 volatile organic compounds. A distinct pattern of elevated levels of selenium, nitrates, and chloroform was observed in the developed portions of the valley. Evidence suggests that the probable sources for these contaminants are linked to the practice of high water-use irrigation for turfgrass landscaping. Selenium was observed to be concentrated in the upper 50 cm of an undisturbed soil sample, but can be mobilized by the application of irrigation water to the naturally seleniferous soils and transported to the shallow aquifer zone. Nitrates are also linked to landscape irrigation as a result of the application of nitrogen fertilizers to lawns. Chloroform is formed by the chlorination of municipal water supplies and can persist in shallow groundwater, serving as a tracer for secondary recharge of groundwater by irrigation water

Building a tolerant society : the origins of New Labor's multicultural education policy

Thesis advisor: Peter H. WeilerIn 1997, New Labor embraced an ideal of multiculturalism in an attempt to foster a particular brand of open communication and respectful cooperation among different individuals and cultural groups. This MA thesis investigates the background to one aspect of this multiculturalism, New Labor's education policies. The thesis shows how New Labor's current multicultural ideal originated in the 1960s in Labor's attempts to combat racial discrimination. As its attempts proved inadequate, Labor expanded its understanding of what was necessary to create a tolerant society, including educational policies that fostered tolerance, respect for different cultural groups, and personal responsibility. During eighteen years spent in opposition to a Conservative majority government, Labor refined its ideal of multiculturalism in debates, forging a path from the idealistic and radical reforms of the 1960s and 1970s toward New Labor's middle way. This thesis describes how New Labor utilized a variety of tools to achieve the goal of a tolerant, cooperative, multicultural society, including repurposing Conservatives' policies. This thesis defends multiculturalism as an appropriate response to a changing political environment, one that attempted to deal with the exigent circumstances presented by racial discrimination, class and cultural based underachievement, and underlying cultural tensions.Thesis (MA) — Boston College, 2009.Submitted to: Boston College.
