Paragraphs and propositions
This cross-post forms part of a series on the âsubstance of the craftâ of scholarly writing on Inframethodology blog at the Copenhagen Business School Library. Inspired by by Wayne Booth (co-author of The Craft of Research) and Oliver Senior (author of How to Draw Hands), Thomas Basbøll argues that composition is the coordination of words and ideas, paragraphs and propositions, sentences and the state of things. As such, paragraphs in academic writing form a particular picture of âthe factsâ in order for which to make sense, potential readers must be able to imagine
Phonological syllabification in Danish once more: A propos MolbĂŚk's paper
This paper contains an evaluation of MolbĂŚk Hansen's critical discussion of my earlier syllabification principles of Danish phonology. A more recent version of the principles, which has been tested within the DANFON-project, is presented - although very sketchily - and MolbĂŚk Hansen's counter-examples to the earlier principles are evaluated with respect to the DANFON-version. Particular attention is paid to the manifestation of short /a/, synchronically as well as diachronically
Grammatical boundaries in phonology
This paper1 is divided into two main parts: (1) on grammatical boundaries in generative phonology, including an overview of boundaries in the phonology of French, and (2) which concentrates on the evidence for grammatical boundaries, and where both French and Danish examples are discussed. This bipartition is mainly made for expository reasons, and there is a considerable overlapping in the contents of the two sections.
