Great Bay Environmental Consulting (GBEC) worked with the Town of Chester Planning Board to improve regulatory approaches to stormwater management. The project was conducted in two phases: Phase I involved an inventory and assessment of existing regulations for their treatment of stormwater management, with recommendations for an approach to improve stormwater management in the town. The Planning Board opted to focus on specific changes to existing subdivision and site planning regulations, so Phase II of the project involved the development of specific recommendations for those regulations

Design Principles for Downtown Revitalization: Las Cruces, New Mexico

The buildings of and around downtown Las Cruces reflect the unique blend of cultures and activities found within the city. Or at least it did. Today, many of the Art-Deco theaters, the historic brick structures and pueblo-style buildings sit vacant. Drab facades and limited businesses fronting the Main Street Mall now characterize the landscape, creating a challenge for Las Cruces city officials and downtown property owners. To rejuvenate the current lackluster and uninviting state of Main Street in Las Cruces, the New Mexico Main Street Program contracted with the Design, Planning and Assistance Center (DPAC), based at the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of New Mexico, to assist in the development of design principles for the Las Cruces Main Street program. The scope of DPAC\u27s work included devising design principles specifically for building facades of current commercial spaces and potential residential developments on Main Street.https://digitalrepository.unm.edu/dpac_projects/1003/thumbnail.jp

    Get PDF
Mine Risk Education (MRE) has been implemented in Cambodia since 1993 with the aim of encouraging people to adopt mine/UXO risk avoidance behaviours to prevent mine/UXO injures. Mine Risk Education is coordinated by the MRE Unit of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) and implemented through both government and non-government service providers. Key service providers are the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), Cambodian Red Cross (CRC), CARE, The HALO Trust, Handicap International Belguim (HIB), Mines Advisory Group (MAG), Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS), National Police, Spirit of Soccer (SOS) and World Vision Cambodia. Initial activities in the immediate post conflict phase, were primarily message based and focused on providing awareness and knowledge of the mine/UXO threat to returnees. Information was usually disseminated through the mass media and mobile teams promoting awareness of the different types of mines/UXO, the danger they posed, and the steps that could be taken to avoid or minimize the risk of accident

The Royal Decree No. NS/RKT/0900/160, promulgated on 04 September 2000, on the establishment of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority, known as the CMAA, and the Sub-Decree on its organization and functioning have established a suitable framework for developing a national strategic plan for all mine action activities, including mine risk education plans. This document was prepared taking into consideration the current mine/UXO accident rate in the Kingdom of Cambodia. It also takes account of the Prime Minister’s address to the nation on the occasion of Mine Awareness Day 2006, during which he re-iterated the ultimate goal of mine action in Cambodia - to achieve Zero Victims by 2012. This mine risk education strategic plan is designed to help achieve that goal
