Presents a digital library search engine that combines efforts of the AMIS and DMW research projects, each covering significant parts of the problem of finding the required information in an enormous mass of data. The most important contributions of our work are the following: (1) We demonstrate a flexible solution for the extraction and querying of meta-data from multimedia documents in general. (2) Scalability and efficiency support are illustrated for full-text indexing and retrieval. (3) We show how, for a more limited domain, like an intranet, conceptual modelling can offer additional and more powerful query facilities. (4) In the limited domain case, we demonstrate how domain knowledge can be used to interpret low-level features into semantic content. In this short description, we focus on the first and fourth item

However, according to the author of this article, for those who analyse this screenplay from the perspective of the legacy of Greek tragedy in Western culture, its merits should not be underestimated. The frequent references to Greek tragedy, either titles or characters, prove that the American director wants to present Cassandra's Dream as a contemporary instance of Greek tragedy, and contemporary men and women as victims of an almost almighty and mocking tragic irony. The author's aim is also to show the evident similarities of this screenplay to Match Point and, above all, to Crimes and Misdemeanors, the matrix screenplay for the three films

Flickr tag recommendation based on collective knowledge

Online photo services such as Flickr and Zooomr allow users to share their photos with family, friends, and the online community at large. An important facet of these services is that users manually annotate their photos using so called tags, which describe the contents of the photo or provide additional contextual and semantical information. In this paper we investigate how we can assist users in the tagging phase. The contribution of our research is twofold. We analyse a representative snapshot of Flickr and present the results by means of a tag characterisation focussing on how users tags photos and what information is contained in the tagging. Based on this analysis, we present and evaluate tag recommendation strategies to support the user in the photo annotation task by recommending a set of tags that can be added to the photo. The results of the empirical evaluation show that we can effectively recommend relevant tags for a variety of photos with different levels of exhaustiveness of original tagging

Content authoring in an XML-based and author-friendly environment

Publishers are automating the publishing streets to facilitate Printing and Publishing on Demand (PPoD). Besides the traditional hardcopy publications, a wide variety of products are added to their product line, such as Web-sites, Portfolio, leaflets, e-books, DVD, video, audio, etc. To achieve this, content should be reusable for publication on different media and platforms. Authoring content digitally already has become an integrated part of writing and a number of authoring environments are available to support the author in this process. However, to enable reusability of content in the context of a publishing street, content should be created in a medium neutral fashion. The eXtensible Markup Language (XML) allows for the separation of content and presentation, but also influences the authoring process radically. This research discusses two process models for structured conten
