An editorial/article on Teunis Keppel in the Holland City News, July 4, 1896, Gerrit VanSchelven, editor. I assume that Van Schelven wrote the article. He makes comments about A.C.V.R. including the following: Dr. Van Raalte was THE leader of his people. He felt his responsibility and never evinced any longing to share this with any one. Nevertheless he needed assistance. By reason of the newness of things, isolation of locality, foreign tongue, and absolute unacquaintance with everthing that pertained to their new condition... Hence Teunis Keppel was a key person in the community also.https://digitalcommons.hope.edu/vrp_1890s/1003/thumbnail.jp

A series of three articles which appeared in the Holland City News, by Gerrit Van Schelven, entitled, Historical Sketch of Holland City and Colony. These are valuable articles because Van Schelven was very interested in the history of the Holland colony. He later published much in his paper, De Grondwet, on the Holland colony. He also organized the 25th anniversary celebration in 1872. Since these articles were printed just before Van Raalte\u27s death, Van Schelven must have felt that his material was correct.https://digitalcommons.hope.edu/vrp_1870s/1269/thumbnail.jp
