Correlations and Event-by-Event Fluctuations in High Multiplicity Events Produced in 208^{208}Pb-208^{208}Pb Collisions

Analysis of high multiplicity events produced in 158A GeV/c 208^{208}Pb-208^{208}Pb collisions is carried out to study the event-by-event fluctuations. The findings reveal that the method of scaled factorial moments can be used to identify the events having densely populated narrow phase space bins. A few events sorted out adopting this approach are individually analyzed. It is observed that these events do exhibit large fluctuations in their pseudorapidity, η\eta and azimuthal angle, ϕ\phi distributions arising out due to some dynamical reasons. Two particle Δη\Delta\eta-Δϕ\Delta\phi correlation study applied to these events too indicates that some complex two-dimensional structure of significantly high magnitude are present in these events which might have some dynamical origin. The findings reveal that the method of scaled factorial moments may be used as an effective triggering for events with large dynamical fluctuations.Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures (Accepted for publication in Advances in High Energy Physics

THE EMERGENCE OF TIME PROGRAMMED DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM: CHRONOTHERAPY OF CARDIO VASCULAR DISEASES

Time programmed drug delivery system is a system that promises to deliver a drug at a point of time when it is most required, as it is programmed beforehand. Though the delivery system is a boon to the pharmaceutical research due to its desired release profile feature and application to numerous disease areas like hypercholesterolemia, asthma, cardiovascular disease, peptic and duodenal ulcers and cancers of various categories, its special significance is due to its potential applications in chronotherapeutic drug delivery, where the pinnacle aim of devising this drug delivery system is to obtain a programmed release at desired time points, with a lag time where no drug is released. Lot of work is being carried out lately, to understand the relationship between the rhythmicity in disease symptoms and the biological clock, but a special mention is required in case of diseases associated with cardiovascular functions. Cardiovascular system works on a frequency cycle and it resonates hour to hour with the biological clock except in cases of disturbances from any external stimuli, which leads to CVSdisorders. Correcting the rhythmicity of the frequency cycles of heart, which are apparently in sync with the master clock, can be done or achieved by delivering the drug exactly at the point of time when it is needed the most. This will minimize the side effects and maximize the benefits of the administered dose. This review focuses on the importance of circadian rhythm and chronotherapy in the management of CVSand overall physiology, scientific evidences of their relationship, role and importance of PDDS in formulation management and finally the work done in this direction and the marketed chronotheraptics delivery systems available for CVS disorders

Potential anti-seizure activity of atorvastatin in rat models of seizure

    Get PDF
Background: Atorvastatin belongs to the class of Hypolipidemic statins. Increasing evidence indicates that statins are neuroprotective in several conditions, including stroke, cerebral ischemia and traumatic brain injury. However, only scanty and controversial reports are available on anticonvulsant action of statins. The present study therefore aims at exploring the influence of atorvastatin on seizures as compared to standard anticonvulsants phenytoin and sodium valproate in Wistar rats. Methods: Rats were divided into 8 groups (n=6), each treated intraperitoneally (i.p) with atorvastatin, phenytoin or sodium valproate in their therapeutic equivalent doses. Their effects were evaluated on seizures induced by maximum electroshock seizure (MES) and pentylenetetrazole (PTZ). Hind limb extension (HLE) in MES model, number of seizures, duration of seizure, number of myoclonic jerks and time for onset as well as recovery from seizures in PTZ model were monitored. Statistical analysis was done using Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA and Mann-Whitney U test for significance. Results: Atorvastatin failed to protect rats against HLE in MES seizure model. However, atorvastatin significantly prolonged seizure onset time (p<0.0547), decreased seizure number (p<0.0082), seizure duration (p<0.0547) and recovery time (p<0.0040) in PTZ model indicating its potential antiepileptic activity in PTZ model. Conclusions: Atorvastatin exhibited protection against seizures only in PTZ seizure model. Hence, it could possess anti absence seizure activity. This needs to be established with further systematic animal and clinical studies

Cross-layer Based MANET Performance Optimization for Different Traffic and Mobility Scenario

The self configuring dexterous autonomy of MANET imposes some network challenges constrained to traditional dynamic routing behaviour. So as working with different mobility and traffic patterns with normal management schemes may lead some minor pitfalls to some important network performance parameters and hence can degrade the whole network performance. Here,  Our aim is to make some DSR and MAC based cross layer optimizations and testify it on different mobility and traffic scenarios so as to justify the robustness of our proposed improvement.
