Women account for almost 50 % of the populace of any nation; therefore, their contribution to growth cannot be overlooked. Females are unquestionably the foundation of every civilization, performing numerous tasks every day. They have, nevertheless, been a marginalized section of the community in many areas of the globe. Femaleā€™s roles in India have always been much larger than their social definitions, which reflect the overall gender prejudice. A country cannot achieve its long-term goals without trained women since women are the moms who write a generationā€™s destiny. Chetan Sanghi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development, once said: ā€œWe would like to change the paradigm to women-led developmentā€. In India, female rights have improved dramatically in the past several years. In India, a significant number of females are leaving their homes to pursue education. To restore their rightful and dignified status, governments, NGOā€™s, various agencies have initiated empowerment programmes that deliver a powerful basis to raising the internal solid point in addition to self-worth for the rural females. The Indian government has proclaimed 2001 to be the year of female liberation. The Rajya Sabha approved the Femaleā€™s Quota Bill on March 9, 2010, one day after International Womenā€™s Day, guaranteeing 33 % seats for women in parliament and state parliaments. Now is the moment to recognize the importance of womenā€™s empowerment via knowledge and leadership advancement in a fast-growing nation like India. This article aims to examine problems connected to female liberation and to provide solutions in the form of different government policies to achieve this goal.Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University project number (PSAU/2023/R/1444

Background: To compare the risk and severity of development of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) and Dengue Shock Syndrome(DSS) in patients receiving Vitamin D supplement compared to those not receiving it.Methods: Diagnosed patients of DF (n=124) were enrolled in this comparative study. Patients were randomized into two groups having 62 participants in each group. Group A received single dose of 200,000 IU Vitamin D and Group B received no intervention. Both groups were followed for development of DHF or DSS. Chi square was applied to compare the groups. Results: One patient (1.6%) in Group A developed DHF. Seventeen (27%) patients in Group B progressed to DHF. The relationship between Vitamin D and progression to DHF was significant, X2 (2, N=170) =16.43, p= 0.000). The calculated relative risk was 0.0588 (95% confidence interval, .0081 to .4285; p for trend = 0.0588).Conclusion: Vitamin D decreases the risk of DHF and may have a role in management of dengue fever

Background: Pakistan is located in the Himalayan region, which has the highest vulnerability to earthquakes. The Islamabad-Rawalpindi area lies in a tectonically active zone, where earthquakes have been frequent in the recent geological past. Earthquake preparedness in schools is relatively under studied area in Pakistan. The objective of this study was to determine the level of preparedness of schools for earthquakes and to compare it between urban and rural, government and private schools in Islamabad Capital Territory. Material and Methods: It was a cross-sectional comparative study. The study population was schools of Islamabad Capital Territory. The total sample size was 74 and non-probability purposive sampling technique was used.  Data was collected through a structured questionnaire pretested on 5% of the sample size and respondents were administrative staff of schools. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 21. Data of the categorical variables was presented in the form of frequencies (percentages). Statistical significance of association between school profile and level of preparedness was determined by using bivariate tabular association analysis (Chi square). Results: Out of 74 schools, 61 were private and 14 were government schools. 46 schools were located in urban areas while 28 were in rural area of Islamabad Capital Territory. Out of the total schools, 66.2% had written preparedness plan for earthquake and 73% of the schools had a safety committee to lead disaster response planning.  Most of the schools (82.4%) had minimum of two exits in high occupancy rooms. There was significant association of location of school with preparedness plan for earthquake (p=0.009), and type of school with two evacuation drills annually (p=0.03). Conclusion: Private schools and those located in urban areas are better prepared for earthquakes as compared to government schools and the ones located in rural areas

School health service is defined as ā€˜a service concerned with the early detection of health and social problems in school children and their subsequent treatment and surveillanceā€™1 or ā€˜coordinated system that ensures a continuum of care from school to home to community health care provider and backā€™.2 Historically, the concept of school health services evolved in colonial American era by Benjamin Franklin who advocated a ā€˜healthful situationā€™ and promoted the primary subject of physical education in schools. Later, this concept gained major attention as a mean to promote public health and prevent disease after the report of the ā€˜Sanitary commission of Massachusettsā€™, headed by Lemuel Shattuck in 1850.3 Soon after Shattuck report, the medical and public health sectors began to recognize the role that schools could play in controlling communicable diseases with their captive audience of children and young people. On realization of schoolā€™s role in the prevention of public health problems, in 1995 WHO launched ā€˜Global School Health initiativeā€™. The aim of this program was to mobilize and strengthen health promotion and education activities at the local, national, regional and global levels4. This initiative was designed to improve the health of students, school personnel, families and other members of the community through ā€˜health promoting schoolsā€™.
