Social reference: Aggregating online usage of scientific literature in CiteULike for clustering academic resources

Citation-based methods have been widely studied and employed for clustering academic resources and mapping science. Although effective, these methods suffer from citation delay. In this study, we extend reference and citation analysis to a broader notion from social perspective. We coin the term "social reference" to refer to the references of literatures in social academic web environment. We propose clustering methods using social reference information from CiteULike. We experiment for journal clustering and author clustering using social reference and compare with citation-based methods. Our experiments indicate: first, social reference implies connections among literatures which are as effective as citation in clustering academic resources; second, in practical settings, social reference-based clustering methods are not as effective as citation-based ones due to the sparseness of social reference data, but they can outperform in clustering new resources that have few citation. © 2011 Authors

KINEMATICAL ANALYSIS OF DISMOUNT OF STRAIGHT BACK SOMERSAULT WITH A TURN OF 900° : A CASE STUDY

The techniques of dismount of straight back somersault with a turn of 900° performed by Tan Sixin (winner of all-round of China's gymnastics championships in 2011) and Jiang Yuyuan(winner of champion of the balance beam of World University Games in 2009) was filmed using 3-D camera method. The kinematics data were collected and analyzed by motion performance analysis system. The conclusions came out that overall execution of Tan Sixin was good, while the action of Jiang Yuyuan needed to be improved. The results of the analysis will provide a theoretical basis of balance beam training for athletics and trainer

Jiang Zemin's discourse on intellectuals: the political use of formalised language and the conundrum of stability

This article focuses on the specific forms of power that are embodied in the properties and functions of formalised language, as it was used by Jiang Zemin in crucial political documents on the Party’s policy towards intellectuals. This inquiry illuminates various possibilities for the normalisation and inculcation of formalised language in the understudied decade of the 1990s, when the mantra “without stability, nothing can be achieved” became a tautology. The internal constitution of the selected texts is examined with an eye to the dialogic interaction with the production and reception of Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping’s political discourses on intellectuals (Mao 1942; Deng 1978). The analysis of language practices and discursive formations in a comparative per-spective sheds light on the respective socio-political and historical contexts. It also reveals the extreme involution-devolution of formalised language in the Jiang Zemin era, when “preserving stability” was reaffirmed as a crucial concern of the Party leadership with the ultimate aim of preserving its monopoly of power

D−DˉD-\bar{D} mixing constraints on FCNC with a non-universal Z′Z^\prime

The BaBar and Belle collaborations have recently reported evidence for $D^0-\bar D^0$ mixing. This measurement provides the first significant constraint on FCNC in the up-quark sector for non-universal $Z^\prime$ models. Attributing the observed $D-\bar D$ mixing to new physics, we comment on the resulting rare $D$ and $t$ decays. The experimental setup designed and manufactured in UNLV was shipped to LANL in early Aug. One student has been working in LANL to conduct the experiment since then. In the meantime, one new Ph. D. student has started to run the simulation for transport in oxygen mixing. Large Farms and Small Businesses: The difficult path toward development in rural China

The "Chinese Economic Miracle" of sustained growth since the 1970s has been thoroughly explored by many economists. So, too, has the obvious dichotomy between China's urban industrial sector and its rural agrarian economy. What has kept China's industrial development from migrating outward from its cities and into its countryside? When will the industrial revolution in Chinese agriculture begin? This paper examines a series of obstacles to the development of an industrial agricultural system in selected communities in China, contrasting government's goals for development with a realistic assessment of the economic characteristics of China's rural areas. The first section of this paper addresses the development of China's modern agricultural system, and the systems of land trading utilized by rural Chinese. The second section examines the impact of formal and informal financing on the development of rural businesses, as well as the development of a microfinance market in China's rural areas. Together, analysis of these issues demonstrates that China's government must address issues of property rights, access to capital, and social welfare if agricultural industrialization is to be encouraged

Many adolescents are unaware of the impacts that social networking sites may have on them. According to Anderson and Jiang (2018), 95% of adolescents have access to a smartphone. Furthermore, Anderson and Jiang (2018) stated that 45% of adolescents are engaged with online activities on a continual basis. Social networking sites may affect adolescents\u27 view of their body image and lower their self esteem. Anderson and Jiang (2018) discussed the difference between female and male adolescents\u27 use of social media, reporting that 50% of female adolescents engage with social media on a continual basis compared to 39% of male adolescents
