A stage-structured model to predict the effect of temperature and salinity on glass eel Anguilla anguilla pigmentation development

The pigmentation development process of glass eels Anguilla anguilla from stage V-B to VIA3 was modelled by gamma cumulative functions. These functions varied with respect to the factors temperature and salinity whose effects were adjusted by beta functions. Temperature was shown to accelerate pigmentation, while salinity acted as a secondary factor slowing down the pigmentation. The model fits the development of 15 samples kept at various temperatures and salinities in the Vilaine River, as well as samples monitored at other dates and places in Europe. It allows the prediction of the duration of estuarine residency for glass eels, in winter and spring, in the Atlantic estuaries

First record of Parapristipoma octolineatum (Haemulidae) on the French Atlantic coast.

A specimen of African striped grunt Parapristipoma octolineatum was observed on the French part of the Bay of Biscay. This is the first and the most northern record of this species in the Northeastern Atlantic. Moreover, no specimen of this family was ever listed in this geographical area. Repeated observations of the same individual during the four consecutive past years in summer (2013-2016), suggest its adaptation to environmental conditions of this area.Un spécimen de grondeur rayé Parapristipoma octolineatum a été observé sur la partie française du golfe de Gascogne. Il s’agit du premier et du plus septentrional signalement de cette espèce dans l’atlantique. Plus largement, aucun individu de cette famille n’a été répertorié dans cette zone géographique. Application d’un protocole de suivi habitat « récifs » au large de la côte basque. Application méthodologique Index-Cor

The purpose of this report is to test a sampling protocol to define a conservation status index for reef habitat in circalittoral environments to characterize benthic populations from surveys at 4 sites located in the Natura 2000 area “côte Basque rocky and extension offshore”. Due to the complexity of this habitat and the gaps in knowledge, an analysis of the protocol and its modalities is necessary. In parallel, optimization proposals are necessary for the relevance of the information provided and for apprehending a possible conservation status.Ce travail a pour objectif de tester un protocole d’échantillonnage pour définir un indice de l’état de conservation pour l’habitat récif en milieu rocheux circalittoral pour caractériser les peuplements benthiques à partir de prospections sur 4 sites localisés dans la zone natura 2000 « côte basque rocheuse et extension au large ». En raison de la complexité de cet habitat et des lacunes en termes de connaissance, une analyse du protocole et de ses modalités d’application est nécessaire. En parallèle, des propositions d’optimisations sont nécessaires pour la pertinence des informations fournies et pour appréhender un éventuel état de conservation
