Spatio-temporal conjecture for diffusion
We present here a conjecture about the equivalence between the noise density
of states of a system governed by a generalized Langevin equation and the
fluctuation in the energy density of states in a Hamiltonian system. We present
evidence of this for a disordered Heisenberg system.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure. Submitted to Physica
Superdiffusive Conduction: AC Conductivity with Correlated Noise
We present evidence of the existence of a superdiffusive regime in systems
with correlated disorder for which localization is suppressed. An expression
for anomalous electrical conductivity at low frequencies is found by using a
generalized Langevin equation whose memory function accounts for the
interactions between the carriers. New mechanisms inducing a superdiffusive
conductivity are discussed and experimental possibilities for observing that
phenomenon in nanotubes and superlattices are presented.Comment: 7 pages, no figure
That is how we do it around here: Levels of identification, masculine honor, and social activism against organized crime in the south of Italy
Masculine honor is an important cultural code in the south of Italy. Italian criminal organizations (COs) manipulate and exploit this code to maintain legitimacy among local populations and exert social control in the territory where they operate. This research tested the hypothesis that different levels of identification—the region and the nation—would have opposite associations with male honor-related values and, indirectly, with intentions to oppose COs collectively. Results from a sample of young southern Italians (N?=?170) showed that regional identification positively predicted endorsement of male honor-related values, which in turn were associated with lowered intentions to oppose COs. In contrast, national identification negatively predicted male honor-related values, associated in turn with stronger intentions to oppose COs. These results also held when perceived risk and social dominance orientation were taken into account. Directions for future research are discussed
UNDERSTANDING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS AND COORDINATION IN AGRI-BUSINESS SUPPLY CHAINS: AN EXAMINATION OF THE NEW ZEALAND MEAT INDUSTRY
Two phenomena are occurring simultaneously within the agribusiness sector: customers are requiring tighter product specifications and agricultural chains are becoming more coordinated. However, the exact relationship between these two phenomena is not clear. This research explores that relationship. Five New Zealand fresh meat chains were the focus of multiple case-study research, which used a chain-level (multi-dyadic) approach. Chains were assessed as to the nature of product specifications demanded at the end-customer level, as well as to the nature of inter-firm relationships. Interestingly, tighter product specifications in themselves do not lead to more coordinated chains; coordination seems to be linked to the level of effort required to meet product specifications.Industrial Organization, Livestock Production/Industries,
Bloch-like oscillations in a one-dimensional lattice with long-range correlated disorder
We study the dynamics of an electron subjected to a uniform electric field
within a tight-binding model with long-range-correlated diagonal disorder. The
random distribution of site energies is assumed to have a power spectrum with . Moura and Lyra [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf
81}, 3735 (1998)] predicted that this model supports a phase of delocalized
states at the band center, separated from localized states by two mobility
edges, provided . We find clear signatures of Bloch-like
oscillations of an initial Gaussian wave packet between the two mobility edges
and determine the bandwidth of extended states, in perfect agreement with the
zero-field prediction.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
