Modified Kerr-Schild Method applied to Gravity f(R)

We propose an adaptation of the Kerr-Schild method by implementing the correspondence relations (mapping) between Ricci-based Gravity (RBG) and General Relativity (GR). Basically, we generate GR known solutions from a canonical metric with a well-defined form and then obtain the configuration of this solution for the Gravity f(R). The new method allows us to perturb the metric associated with GR with a null geodetic vector, but instead of taking us to a new solution described by Einstein's gravitational sector, it allows us to configure this solution in an RBG

Confinement in the 3-dimensional Gross-Neveu model

We consider the $N$-components 3-dimensional massive Gross-Neveu model compactified in one spatial direction, the system being constrained to a slab of thickness $L$. We derive a closed formula for the effective renormalized $L$-dependent coupling constant in the large-N limit, using bag-model boundary conditions. For values of the fixed coupling constant in absence of boundaries $\lambda \geq \lambda_c \simeq 19.16$, we obtain ultra-violet asymptotic freedom (for $L \to 0$) and confinement for a length $L^{(c)}$ such that $2.07 m^{-1} < L^{(c)} \lesssim 2.82 m^{-1}$, $m$ being the fermionic mass. Taking for $m$ an average of the masses of the quarks composing the proton, we obtain a confining legth $L^{(c)}_p$ which is comparable with an estimated proton diameter.Comment: Latex, 4 pages, 2 figures (one new), some changes in tex

ELKO Spinor Fields: Lagrangians for Gravity derived from Supergravity

Dual-helicity eigenspinors of the charge conjugation operator (ELKO spinor fields) belong -- together with Majorana spinor fields -- to a wider class of spinor fields, the so-called flagpole spinor fields, corresponding to the class-(5), according to Lounesto spinor field classification based on the relations and values taken by their associated bilinear covariants. There exists only six such disjoint classes: the first three corresponding to Dirac spinor fields, and the other three respectively corresponding to flagpole, flag-dipole and Weyl spinor fields. Using the mapping from ELKO spinor fields to the three classes Dirac spinor fields, it is shown that the Einstein-Hilbert, the Einstein-Palatini, and the Holst actions can be derived from the Quadratic Spinor Lagrangian (QSL), as the prime Lagrangian for supergravity. The Holst action is related to the Ashtekar's quantum gravity formulation. To each one of these classes, there corresponds a unique kind of action for a covariant gravity theory. Furthermore we consider the necessary and sufficient conditions to map Dirac spinor fields (DSFs) to ELKO, in order to naturally extend the Standard Model to spinor fields possessing mass dimension one. As ELKO is a prime candidate to describe dark matter and can be obtained from the DSFs, via a mapping explicitly constructed that does not preserve spinor field classes, we prove that in particular the Einstein-Hilbert, Einstein-Palatini, and Holst actions can be derived from the QSL, as a fundamental Lagrangian for supergravity, via ELKO spinor fields. The geometric meaning of the mass dimension-transmuting operator - leading ELKO Lagrangian into the Dirac Lagrangian - is also pointed out, together with its relationship to the instanton Hopf fibration.Comment: 11 pages, RevTeX, accepted for publication in Int.J.Geom.Meth.Mod.Phys. Espécies de Anastrepha Schiner (Diptera: Tephritidae), seus hospedeiros e parasitóides nos Estados do Acre e Rondônia, Brasil.

Durante o mês de março de 2009 foram realizadas amostragens de frutos carnosos nos Estados do Acre (municípios de Brasiléia, Bujari, Capixaba, Epitaciolândia, Rio Branco, Sena Madureira, Senador Guiomard e Xapuri) e Rondônia (Ariquemes, Candeias do Jamari, Itapuã do Oeste, Ouro Preto do Oeste e Porto Velho) visando ampliar o conhecimento sobre a diversidade de moscas-das-frutas (Diptera: Tephritidae), seus hospedeiros e parasitóides. Este trabalho constitui o primeiro registro de Anastrepha coronilli Carrejo & González (Tephritidae) para o Estado do Acre, e das espécies A. coronilli, A. distincta Greene (Tephritidae), e dos himenópteros Doryctobracon areolatus (Szépligeti) e Opius bellus Gahan (Braconidae) para Rondônia.
