    Thermo-magnetic history effects in the vortex state of YNi_2B_2C superconductor

    The nature of five-quadrant magnetic isotherms for is different from that for in a single crystal of YNi2B2C, pointing towards an anisotropic behaviour of the flux line lattice (FLL). For, a well defined peak effect (PE) and second magnetization peak (SMP) can be observed and the loop is open prior to the PE. However, for, the loop is closed and one can observe only the PE. We have investigated the history dependence of magnetization hysteresis data for by recording minor hysteresis loops. The observed history dependence in across different anomalous regions are rationalized on the basis of su-perheating/supercooling of the vortex matter across the first-order-like phase transition and possible additional effects due to annealing of the disordered vortex bundles to the underlying equilibrium state.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    Synthesis and Characterization of PT(II) Complexes for Anticancer Therapy

    The first platinum-based drug was discovered and approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1978 is cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (II) (cisplatin or CDDP). Cisplatin is used for about 50% of the chemotherapeutic cancer treatments along with its two analogues carboplatin and oxaliplatin. So far these drugs have been used extensively as treatment for ovarian, bladder, head and neck, and lung cancers. Although cisplatin has been used so often, it has toxic side effects and drug resistance.1-4 Due to these limitations other compounds have been synthesized. Specifically, our lab in conjunction with a biochemistry lab has recently published one article in this area. This project is a continuation to the development of anticancer drugs

    ρ\rho-ω\omega mixing and spin dependent CSV potential

    We construct the charge symmetry violating (CSV) nucleon-nucleon potential induced by the ρ0\rho^0-\o mixing due to the neutron-proton mass difference driven by the NNNN loop. Analytical expression for for the two-body CSV potential is presented containing both the central and non- central NNNN interaction. We show that the ρ\rhoNNNN tensor interaction can significantly enhance the charge symmetry violating NNNN interaction even if momentum dependent off-shell ρ0\rho^0-ω\omega mixing amplitude is considered. It is also shown that the inclusion of form factors removes the divergence arising out of the contact interaction. Consequently, we see that the precise size of the computed scattering length difference depends on how the short range aspects of the CSV potential are treated.Comment: Accepted for publication in Phys.     Polyelectrolytes are an important class of macromolecules that contain dissociable ionic groups. When introduced into polar solvent, usually the universal solvent water, dissociation takes place so that electrically charged macromolecule is suspended in solution. The electrostatic interaction is operative between ionized groups inside the macromolecule, between the macromolecules, between the counterions, and between the macromolecule and counterion. Since this interaction is characterized by its long-range nature, the solution exhibits various interesting properties including the polyelectrolyte behavior very different from solutions of neutral polymers

    Production of urokinase by HT 1080 human kidney cell line

    Studies were carried out in T-flasks and bioreactor to produce urokinase enzyme using HT 1080 human kidney cell line. While growing the cell line it has been observed that the lag phase is reduced considerably in the bioreactor as compared to T-flask culture. The HT 1080 cell adhesion rate and urokinase production were observed to be the function of serum concentration in the medium. The maximum urokinase activity of 3.1 x 10-4 unit ml-1 was achieved in the bioreactor at around 65 h of batch culture. Since HT 1080 is an anchorage dependent cell line, therefore, the hydrodynamic effects on the cell line were investigated
