    Exercise intervention to reduce mobile phone addiction in adolescents: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

    BackgroundThe growing problem of adolescent mobile phone addiction has attracted significant attention, underscoring the importance of identifying approaches to address it. Exercise has been found to reduce adolescent mobile phone addiction; however, its mechanism remains unclear. This review aims to elucidate the potential moderating factors between exercise and mobile phone addiction based on previous studies to provide a reference for adolescents to effectively participate in exercise to reduce mobile phone addiction.MethodsArticles were searched in the CNKI, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane, PsycINFO, and PubMed databases according to the inclusion criteria and followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Assessment and Meta-analysis (PRISMA). The quality of the literature was assessed by two independent reviewers using the Cochrane Collaboration Risk of Bias tool for methodological quality assessment. Meta-analysis was performed using Stata 15.1 software for Meta-analysis, standardized mean difference (SMD) was combined using a random effects model, and subgroup analysis was used to explore heterogeneity.ResultsA total of 12 studies, 17 samples, and 861 subjects were included in the meta-analysis, and all studies were randomized controlled trials. The findings revealed that the exercise intervention significantly reduced mobile phone addiction in adolescents (SMD = −3.11; 95% CI: −3.91, −2.30; p < 0.001). The intervention effect was moderated by multiple variables, such as the measurement tools, exercise intervention types, cycles, frequency, and duration of a single exercise intervention.ConclusionOur findings suggest that exercise could serve as an effective strategy for preventing or ameliorating mobile phone addiction in adolescents. Based on the results of this study, we encourage mobile phone-addicted adolescents to engage in a single exercise using a mix of skills for 30–60 min three or more times weekly for more than eight consecutive weeks

    Duck TRIM29 negatively regulates type I IFN production by targeting MAVS

    The innate immune response is a host defense mechanism that induces type I interferon and proinflammatory cytokines. Tripartite motif (TRIM) family proteins have recently emerged as pivotal regulators of type I interferon production in mammals. Here, we first identified duck TRIM29, which encodes 571 amino acids and shows high sequence homology with other bird TRIM29 proteins. DuTRIM29 inhibited IFN-β and IRF7 promoter activation in a dose-dependent manner and downregulated the mRNA expression of IFN-β, IRF7, Mx and IL-6 mediated by duRIG-I. Moreover, duTRIM29 interacted and colocalized with duMAVS in the cytoplasm. DuTRIM29 interacted with duMAVS via its C-terminal domains. In addition, duTRIM29 inhibited IFN-β and IRF7 promoter activation and significantly downregulated IFN-β and immune-related gene expression mediated by duMAVS in ducks. Furthermore, duTRIM29 induced K29-linked polyubiquitination and degradation of duMAVS to suppress the expression of IFN-β. Overall, our results demonstrate that duTRIM29 negatively regulates type I IFN production by targeting duMAVS in ducks. This study will contribute to a better understanding of the molecular mechanism regulating the innate immune response by TRIM proteins in ducks

    Effects of hydroxyl group in cyclo(Pro-Tyr)-like cyclic dipeptides on their anti-QS activity and self-assembly

    Summary: We investigated the influence of hydroxyl groups on the anti-quorum-sensing (anti-QS) and anti-biofilm activity of structurally similar cyclic dipeptides, namely cyclo(L-Pro-L-Tyr), cyclo(L-Hyp-L-Tyr), and cyclo(L-Pro-L-Phe), against Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1. Cyclo(L-Pro-L-Phe), lacking hydroxyl groups, displayed higher virulence factor inhibition and cytotoxicity, but showed less inhibitory ability in biofilm formation. Cyclo(L-Pro-L-Tyr) and cyclo(L-Hyp-L-Tyr) suppressed genes in both the las and rhl systems, whereas cyclo(L-Pro-L-Phe) mainly downregulated rhlI and pqsR expression. These cyclic dipeptides interacted with the QS-related protein LasR, with similar binding efficiency to the autoinducer 3OC12-HSL, except for cyclo(L-Pro-L-Phe) which had lower affinity. In addition, the introduction of hydroxyl groups significantly improved the self-assembly ability of these peptides. Both cyclo(L-Pro-L-Tyr) and cyclo(L-Hyp-L-Tyr) formed assembly particles at the highest tested concentration. The findings revealed the structure-function relationship of this kind of cyclic dipeptides and provided basis for our follow-up research in the design and modification of anti-QS compounds

    The multiple mechanisms of entrepreneurial intention are still an open issue, and few have explored whether the relationship between entrepreneurial intention and proactive personality is influenced by entrepreneurial passion. This study aims to reveal the mediation role of entrepreneurial passion between proactive personality and entrepreneurial intention with the application of the classic structural equation modeling. A questionnaire survey was conducted on Chinese undergraduates and 647 questionnaires were collected for the further analysis. The main findings shed light on the mechanisms that underpin entrepreneurial passion and contribute to the growing body of knowledge on entrepreneurial intention and will raise implications for both academic entrepreneurial theory and practice

    Association between the time-varying arterial carbon dioxide pressure and 28-day mortality in mechanically ventilated patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome

    Abstract Background Recent studies have shown an association between baseline arterial carbon dioxide pressure (PaCO2) and outcomes in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). However, PaCO2 probably varies throughout the disease, and few studies have assessed the effect of longitudinal PaCO2 on prognosis. We thus aimed to investigate the association between time-varying PaCO2 and 28-day mortality in mechanically ventilated ARDS patients. Methods In this retrospective study, we included all adult (≥ 18 years) patients diagnosed with ARDS who received mechanical ventilation for at least 24 h at a tertiary teaching hospital between January 2014 and March 2021. Patients were excluded if they received extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Demographic data, respiratory variables, and daily PaCO2 were extracted. The primary outcome was 28-day mortality. Time-varying Cox models were used to estimate the association between longitudinal PaCO2 measurements and 28-day mortality. Results A total of 709 patients were eligible for inclusion in the final cohort, with an average age of 65 years, of whom 70.7% were male, and the overall 28-day mortality was 35.5%. After adjustment for baseline confounders, including age and severity of disease, a significant increase in the hazard of death was found to be associated with both time-varying PaCO2 (HR 1.07, 95% CI 1.03–1.11, p<0.001) and the time-varying coefficient of variation for PaCO2 (HR 1.24 per 10% increase, 95% CI 1.10–1.40, p<0.001) during the first five days of invasive mechanical ventilation. The cumulative proportion of exposure to normal PaCO2 (HR 0.72 per 10% increase, 95% CI 0.58–0.89, p = 0.002) was associated with 28-day mortality. Conclusion PaCO2 should be closely monitored in mechanically ventilated ARDS patients. The association between PaCO2 and 28-day mortality persisted over time. Increased cumulative exposure to normal PaCO2 was associated with a decreased risk of death

    Phylogeny, Pathogenicity, Transmission, and Host Immune Responses of Four H5N6 Avian Influenza Viruses in Chickens and Mice

    H5Nx viruses have continuously emerged in the world, causing poultry industry losses and posing a potential public health risk. Here, we studied the phylogeny, pathogenicity, transmission, and immune response of four H5N6 avian influenza viruses in chickens and mice, which were isolated from waterfowl between 2013 and 2014. Their HA genes belong to Clade 2.3.4.4, circulated in China since 2008. Their NA genes fall into N6-like/Eurasian sublineage. Their internal genes originated from different H5N1 viruses. The results suggested that the four H5N6 viruses were reassortants of the H5N1 and H6N6 viruses. They cause lethal infection with high transmission capability in chickens. They also cause mild to severe pathogenicity in mice and can spread to the brain through the blood&ndash;brain barrier. During the infection, the viruses result in the up-regulation of PRRs and cytokine in brains and lungs of chickens and mice. Our results suggested that the high viral loads of several organs may result in disease severity in chickens and mice; there were varying levels of cytokines induced by the H5N6 viruses with different pathogenicity in chickens and mice
