    Thioredoxin Reductase Is Involved in Development and Pathogenicity in Fusarium graminearum

    Fusarium graminearum is one of the causal agents of Fusarium head blight and produces the trichothecene mycotoxin, deoxynivalenol (DON). Thioredoxin reductases (TRRs) play critical roles in the recycling of oxidized thioredoxin. However, their functions are not well known in plant pathogenic fungi. In this study, we characterized a TRR orthologue FgTRR in F. graminearum. The FgTRR-GFP fusion protein localized to the cytoplasm. FgTRR gene deletion demonstrated that FgTRR is involved in hyphal growth, conidiation, sexual reproduction, DON production, and virulence. The ΔTRR mutants also exhibited a defect in pigmentation, the expression level of aurofusarin biosynthesis-related genes was significantly decreased in the FgTRR mutant. Furthermore, the ΔTRR mutants were more sensitive to oxidative stress and aggravated apoptosis-like cell death compared with the wild type strain. Taken together, these results indicate that FgTRR is important in development and pathogenicity in F. graminearum

    LRRTM3 Interacts with APP and BACE1 and Has Variants Associating with Late-Onset Alzheimer's Disease (LOAD)

    Leucine rich repeat transmembrane protein 3 (LRRTM3) is member of a synaptic protein family. LRRTM3 is a nested gene within α-T catenin (CTNNA3) and resides at the linkage peak for late-onset Alzheimer’s disease (LOAD) risk and plasma amyloid β (Aβ) levels. In-vitro knock-down of LRRTM3 was previously shown to decrease secreted Aβ, although the mechanism of this is unclear. In SH-SY5Y cells overexpressing APP and transiently transfected with LRRTM3 alone or with BACE1, we showed that LRRTM3 co-localizes with both APP and BACE1 in early endosomes, where BACE1 processing of APP occurs. Additionally, LRRTM3 co-localizes with APP in primary neuronal cultures from Tg2576 mice transduced with LRRTM3-expressing adeno-associated virus. Moreover, LRRTM3 co-immunoprecipitates with both endogenous APP and overexpressed BACE1, in HEK293T cells transfected with LRRTM3. SH-SY5Y cells with knock-down of LRRTM3 had lower BACE1 and higher CTNNA3 mRNA levels, but no change in APP. Brain mRNA levels of LRRTM3 showed significant correlations with BACE1, CTNNA3 and APP in ∼400 humans, but not in LRRTM3 knock-out mice. Finally, we assessed 69 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within and flanking LRRTM3 in 1,567 LOADs and 2,082 controls and identified 8 SNPs within a linkage disequilibrium block encompassing 5′UTR-Intron 1 of LRRTM3 that formed multilocus genotypes (MLG) with suggestive global association with LOAD risk (p = 0.06), and significant individual MLGs. These 8 SNPs were genotyped in an independent series (1,258 LOADs and 718 controls) and had significant global and individual MLG associations in the combined dataset (p = 0.02–0.05). Collectively, these results suggest that protein interactions between LRRTM3, APP and BACE1, as well as complex associations between mRNA levels of LRRTM3, CTNNA3, APP and BACE1 in humans might influence APP metabolism and ultimately risk of AD.© 2013 Lincoln et al.     Observation of a ppb mass threshoud enhancement in \psi^\prime\to\pi^+\pi^-J/\psi(J/\psi\to\gamma p\bar{p}) decay

    The decay channel ψ′→π+π−J/ψ(J/ψ→γppˉ)\psi^\prime\to\pi^+\pi^-J/\psi(J/\psi\to\gamma p\bar{p}) is studied using a sample of 1.06×1081.06\times 10^8 ψ′\psi^\prime events collected by the BESIII experiment at BEPCII. A strong enhancement at threshold is observed in the ppˉp\bar{p} invariant mass spectrum. The enhancement can be fit with an SS-wave Breit-Wigner resonance function with a resulting peak mass of M=1861−13+6(stat)−26+7(syst)MeV/c2M=1861^{+6}_{-13} {\rm (stat)}^{+7}_{-26} {\rm (syst)} {\rm MeV/}c^2 and a narrow width that is Γ<38MeV/c2\Gamma<38 {\rm MeV/}c^2 at the 90% confidence level. These results are consistent with published BESII results. These mass and width values do not match with those of any known meson resonance.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Chinese Physics

    Measurement of the proton form factor by studying e+e−→ppˉe^{+} e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p}

    Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the Born cross section of e+e−→ppˉe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p} at 12 center-of-mass energies from 2232.4 to 3671.0 MeV. The corresponding effective electromagnetic form factor of the proton is deduced under the assumption that the electric and magnetic form factors are equal (∣GE∣=∣GM∣)(|G_{E}|= |G_{M}|). In addition, the ratio of electric to magnetic form factors, ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}|, and ∣GM∣|G_{M}| are extracted by fitting the polar angle distribution of the proton for the data samples with larger statistics, namely at s=\sqrt{s}= 2232.4 and 2400.0 MeV and a combined sample at s\sqrt{s} = 3050.0, 3060.0 and 3080.0 MeV, respectively. The measured cross sections are in agreement with recent results from BaBar, improving the overall uncertainty by about 30\%. The ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}| ratios are close to unity and consistent with BaBar results in the same q2q^{2} region, which indicates the data are consistent with the assumption that ∣GE∣=∣GM∣|G_{E}|=|G_{M}| within uncertainties.Comment: 13 pages, 24 figure

    Observation of the ψ(13D2)\psi(1^3D_2) state in e+e−→π+π−γχc1e^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^-\gamma\chi_{c1} at BESIII

    We report the observation of the X(3823)X(3823) in the process e+e−→π+π−X(3823)→π+π−γχc1e^+e^-\to \pi^+\pi^-X(3823) \to \pi^+\pi^-\gamma\chi_{c1} with a statistical significance of 6.2σ6.2\sigma, in data samples at center-of-mass energies s=\sqrt{s}=4.230, 4.260, 4.360, 4.420 and 4.600~GeV collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII electron positron collider. The measured mass of the X(3823)X(3823) is (3821.7±1.3±0.7)(3821.7\pm 1.3\pm 0.7)~MeV/c2c^2, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic, and the width is less than 1616~MeV at the 90\% confidence level. The products of the Born cross sections for e+e−→π+π−X(3823)e^+e^-\to \pi^+\pi^-X(3823) and the branching ratio B[X(3823)→γχc1,c2]\mathcal{B}[X(3823)\to \gamma\chi_{c1,c2}] are also measured. These measurements are in good agreement with the assignment of the X(3823)X(3823) as the ψ(13D2)\psi(1^3D_2) charmonium state.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, version to appear in Phys. Rev. Let

    Observation of the Dalitz Decay η′→γe+e−\eta' \to \gamma e^+e^-

    We report the first observation of the Dalitz decay η′→γe+e−\eta' \to \gamma e^+e^-, based on a data sample of 1.31 billion J/ψJ/\psi events collected with the BESIII detector. The η′\eta' mesons are produced via the J/ψ→γη′J/\psi \to \gamma \eta' decay process. The ratio Γ(η′→γe+e−)/Γ(η′→γγ)\Gamma(\eta' \to \gamma e^+ e^-)/\Gamma(\eta'\to\gamma\gamma) is measured to be (2.13±0.09(stat.)±0.07(sys.))×10−2(2.13\pm0.09(\text{stat.})\pm0.07(\text{sys.}))\times10^{-2}. This corresponds to a branching fraction B(η′→γe+e−)=(4.69±0.20(stat.)±0.23(sys.))×10−4{\cal B}(\eta' \to \gamma e^+e^-)= (4.69 \pm0.20(\text{stat.})\pm0.23(\text{sys.}))\times10^{-4}. The transition form factor is extracted and different expressions are compared to the measured dependence on the e+e−e^+e^- invariant mass. The results are consistent with the prediction of the Vector Meson Dominance model.Comment: 11 pages,7 figure

    Search for the isospin violating decay Y(4260)→J/ψηπ0Y(4260)\rightarrow J/\psi \eta \pi^{0}

    Using data samples collected at center of mass energies of s\sqrt{s} = 4.009, 4.226, 4.257, 4.358, 4.416 and 4.599 GeV with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, we search for the isospin violating decay Y(4260)→J/ψηπ0Y(4260)\rightarrow J/\psi \eta \pi^{0}. No signal is observed, and upper limits on the cross section σ(e+e−→J/ψηπ0)\sigma(e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow J/\psi \eta \pi^{0}) at the 90\% confidence level are determined to be 3.6, 1.7, 2.4, 1.4, 0.9 and 1.9 pb, respectively.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure

    Observation of the isospin-violating decay J/ψ→ϕπ0f0(980)J/\psi \to \phi\pi^{0}f_{0}(980)

    Using a sample of 1.31 billion J/ψJ/\psi events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the decays J/ψ→ϕπ+π−π0J/\psi \to \phi \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0} and J/ψ→ϕπ0π0π0J/\psi \to \phi \pi^{0}\pi^{0}\pi^{0} are investigated. The isospin violating decay J/ψ→ϕπ0f0(980)J/\psi \to \phi \pi^{0} f_{0}(980) with f0(980)→ππf_{0}(980) \to \pi\pi, is observed for the first time. The width of the f0(980)f_{0}(980) obtained from the dipion mass spectrum is found to be much smaller than the world average value. In the π0f0(980)\pi^{0} f_{0}(980) mass spectrum, there is evidence of f1(1285)f_1(1285) production. By studying the decay J/ψ→ϕη′J/\psi \to \phi\eta', the branching fractions of η′→π+π−π0\eta' \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0} and η′→π0π0π0\eta' \to \pi^{0}\pi^{0}\pi^{0}, as well as their ratio, are also measured.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, published in Phys.     An amplitude analysis of the π0π0\pi^{0}\pi^{0} system produced in radiative J/ψJ/\psi decays

    An amplitude analysis of the π0π0\pi^{0}\pi^{0} system produced in radiative J/ψJ/\psi decays is presented. In particular, a piecewise function that describes the dynamics of the π0π0\pi^{0}\pi^{0} system is determined as a function of Mπ0π0M_{\pi^{0}\pi^{0}} from an analysis of the (1.311±0.011)×109(1.311\pm0.011)\times10^{9} J/ψJ/\psi decays collected by the BESIII detector. The goal of this analysis is to provide a description of the scalar and tensor components of the π0π0\pi^0\pi^0 system while making minimal assumptions about the properties or number of poles in the amplitude. Such a model-independent description allows one to integrate these results with other related results from complementary reactions in the development of phenomenological models, which can then be used to directly fit experimental data to obtain parameters of interest. The branching fraction of J/ψ→γπ0π0J/\psi \to \gamma \pi^{0}\pi^{0} is determined to be (1.15±0.05)×10−3(1.15\pm0.05)\times10^{-3}, where the uncertainty is systematic only and the statistical uncertainty is negligible.Comment: Submitted to Phys.     Measurement of the Matrix Elements for the Decays η→π+π−π0\eta \rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^0 and η/η′→π0π0π0\eta/\eta^{\prime}\rightarrow\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0

    Based on a sample of 1.31×1091.31 \times 10^9 J/ψJ/\psi events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, Dalitz plot analyses of selected 79,625 η→π+π−π0\eta\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^0 events, 33,908 η→π0π0π0\eta\rightarrow\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0 events and 1,888 η′→π0π0π0\eta^{\prime}\rightarrow\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0 events are performed. The measured matrix elements of η→π+π−π0\eta\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0 are in reasonable agreement with previous measurements. The Dalitz plot slope parameters of η→π0π0π0\eta\rightarrow\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0 and η′→π0π0π0\eta^{\prime}\rightarrow\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0 are determined to be −0.055±0.014±0.004-0.055 \pm 0.014 \pm 0.004 and −0.640±0.046±0.047-0.640 \pm 0.046 \pm 0.047, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Both values are consistent with previous measurements, while the precision of the latter one is improved by a factor of three. Final state interactions are found to have an important role in those decays.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figure
