    Learning Disentangled Semantic Representations for Zero-Shot Cross-Lingual Transfer in Multilingual Machine Reading Comprehension

    Multilingual pre-trained models are able to zero-shot transfer knowledge from rich-resource to low-resource languages in machine reading comprehension (MRC). However, inherent linguistic discrepancies in different languages could make answer spans predicted by zero-shot transfer violate syntactic constraints of the target language. In this paper, we propose a novel multilingual MRC framework equipped with a Siamese Semantic Disentanglement Model (SSDM) to disassociate semantics from syntax in representations learned by multilingual pre-trained models. To explicitly transfer only semantic knowledge to the target language, we propose two groups of losses tailored for semantic and syntactic encoding and disentanglement. Experimental results on three multilingual MRC datasets (i.e., XQuAD, MLQA, and TyDi QA) demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach over models based on mBERT and XLM-100.     Frequent mutation of hypoxia-related genes in persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn

    AIMS: Persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN) is characterized by sustained high levels of pulmonary vascular resistance after birth with etiology unclear; Arterial blood oxygen saturation of Tibetan newborns at high latitudes is higher than that of Han newborns at low latitudes, suggesting that genetic adaptation may allow sufficient oxygen to confer Tibetan populations with resistance to pulmonary hypertension; We have previously identified genetic factors related to PPHN through candidate gene sequencing; In this study, we first performed whole exome sequencing in PPHN patients to screen for genetic-related factors. METHODS AND RESULTS: In this two-phase genetic study, we first sequenced the whole exome of 20 Tibetan PPHN patients and compared it with the published genome sequences of 50 healthy high-altitude Tibetanshypoxia-related genes, a total of 166 PPHN-related variants were found, of which 49% were from 43 hypoxia-related genes; considering many studies have shown that the differences in the genetic background between Tibet and Han are characterized by hypoxia-related genetic polymorphisms, so it is necessary to further verify whether the association between hypoxia-related variants and PPHN is independent of high-altitude life. During the validation phase, 237 hypoxia-related genes were sequenced in another 80 Han PPHN patients living in low altitude areas, including genes at the discovery stage and known hypoxia tolerance, of which 413 variants from 127 of these genes were shown to be significantly associated with PPHN.hypoxia-related genes. CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicates that the association of hypoxia-related genes with PPHN does not depend on high-altitude life, at the same time, 21 rare mutations associated with PPHN were also found, including three rare variants of the tubulin tyrosine ligase-like family member 3 gene (TTLL3:p.E317K, TTLL3:p.P777S) and the integrin subunit alpha M gene (ITGAM:p.E1071D).     Application of intelligent pacifying strategy information system in reducing short-duration MRI sedation rate in children

    Abstract Exploring and analyzing the effectiveness of an intelligent pacifying strategy information system based on assisted decision-making in reducing the sedation rate of children in short-duration magnetic resonance scans. A total of 125 children aged 3–5 years who underwent MRI scans at a children's hospital from July to December 2021 participated in this study, during which 62 children were assigned to a control group from July to September, and 63 children were assigned to an intervention group from October to December. In the intervention group, the pacifier used the intelligent pacifying strategy information system based on assisted decision-making to assess children's temperament, and utilization of a system-generated pacification plan according to assessment results. In the control group, the pacification plan was formulated by the pacifier based on their own experience and discussion with families of the participating children. The success rate of pacification, duration of pacification, and image quality of the two groups were compare. Compared with the control group, the intervention group had a higher success rate of pacification and lower duration of pacification, with statistically significant differences (P  0.05). The intelligent pacifying strategy information system can help reduce the use of the sedative drugs in children aged 3–5 years who underwent a short-duration MRI scan
