    A Photovoltaic Solar Tracking System with Bidirectional Sliding Axle for Building Integration

    AbstractA new single-axis solar tracking device is designed and explored, which is able to lift and lower the photovoltaic panels. The photovoltaic panels can be tilted to east-west directions in the process of tracking the sun. In windy weather, the solar panels can be placed close to horizontal rail by using stent, which can minimize the frontal area. What's more, the mechanical strength of this device is better than traditional single-axis solar tracking system, so as to enhance wind resistance in windy weather. The device in this paper is suitable for PV power plants on building roofs because it can meet the strict requirements of wind resistance capacity and safety

    Pharmacokinetics and bioequivalence evaluation of acamprosate calcium tablets in healthy Chinese volunteers

    AbstractBackgroundFew pharmacokinetic data of acamprosate were available in Chinese population and no medication is approved for alcohol dependence in China.Purpose1. Investigate the pharmacokinetic properties of acamprosate calcium in healthy Chinese male volunteers on single- and multiple-dose administration. 2. Compare the bioequivalence of two formulations of acamprosate calcium tablets both under fasting and fed conditions.MethodsThis open-label, randomized study included 3 stages. In each stage, a 2-way crossover bioequivalence study was conducted to study the pharmacokinetic properties and bioequivalence of acamprosate calcium tablets on multiple dosing after standardized meals, single dosing under fasting conditions and fed conditions, respectively. The washout period between each treatment in a stage and between each stage was 1week. Plasma acamprosate calcium was quantified by a validated liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method. Tolerability was evaluated by monitoring adverse events, physical examinations, 12-lead ECG, and laboratory tests.ResultsTotally, 36 male subjects were enrolled in the study and all of them completed the whole 3 study stages. Main pharmacokinetic parameters of test and reference formulations were as follows: multiple dosing, Tmax 9.94±6.59 and 9.47±5.47h, Cmax 435.74±348.10 and 346.54±155.66ng·mL−1, AUC0-t 8600.52±5264.77 and 9315.10±6820.03ng·mL−1·h, AUC0–∞ 8845.38±5838.18 and 9669.24±7326.53ng·mL−1·h, t1/2 10.06±8.83 and 9.87±10.35h; single dosing under fasting conditions, Tmax 7.29±4.87 and 6.57±1.85h, Cmax 247.85±110.05 and 244.64±132.43ng·mL−1, AUC0-t 3385.41±1418.92 and 3496.24±1767.29ng·mL−1·h, AUC0–∞ 3781.53±1556.96 and 3829.56±1981.25ng·mL−1·h, t1/2 13.07±17.24 and 10.26±7.78h; single dosing under fed conditions, Tmax 17.72±9.42 and 19.50±9.84h, Cmax 183.90±74.52 and 168.14±60.67ng·mL−1, AUC0-t 3181.71±1368.24 and 3575.11±1416.39ng·mL−1·h, AUC0–∞3442.39±2002.53 and 3624.44±1418.12ng·mL−1·h, t1/2 8.76±12.28 and 6.67±4.84h, respectively. In all three stages, 90% CIs for the test/reference ratio of AUC0–t and AUC0–∞ were located within 80%–125%, 90% CI for Cmax was within 70%–143%.ConclusionsSimilar pharmacokinetic results of acamprosate calcium tablets in healthy Chinese volunteers were found as those in Caucasic population.     A Review on Fault Mechanism and Diagnosis Approach for Li-Ion Batteries

    Li-ion battery has attracted more and more attention as it is a promising storage device which has long service life, higher energy, and power density. However, battery ageing always occurs during operation and leads to performance degradation and system fault which not only causes inconvenience, but also risks serious consequences such as thermal runaway or even explosion. This paper reviews recent research and development of ageing mechanisms of Li-ion batteries to understand the origins and symptoms of Li-ion battery faults. Common ageing factors are covered with their effects and consequences. Through ageing tests, relationship between performance and ageing factors, as well as cross-dependence among factors can be quantified. Summary of recent research about fault diagnosis technology for Li-ion batteries is concluded with their cons and pros. The suggestions on novel fault diagnosis approach and remaining challenges are provided at the end of this paper

    Asymmetric Loop Spectra and Unbroken Phase Protection due to Nonlinearities in PT-Symmetric Periodic Potentials

    We demonstrate that the interplay between a nonlinearity and PT symmetry in a periodic potential results in peculiar features of nonlinear periodic solutions. These include thresholdless symmetry breaking and asymmetric (multi-)loop structures of the nonlinear Bloch spectrum, persistence of unbroken PT symmetry even after the gap is closed, nonmonotonic dependence of the PT phase transition on the defocusing nonlinearity, and enhanced stability of the nonlinear states corresponding to the loop structures. The asymmetry and the loop structure of the spectrum are explained within the framework of a two-mode approximation and an effective potential theory and are validated numerically

    Application of the machine learning LightGBM model to the prediction of the water levels of the lower Columbia River

    Due to the strong nonlinear interaction with river discharge, tides in estuaries are characterised as nonstationary and their mechanisms are yet to be fully understood. It remains highly challenging to accurately predict estuarine water levels. Machine learning methods, which offer a unique ability to simulate the unknown relationships between variables, have been increasingly used in a large number of research areas. This study applies the LightGBM model to predicting the water levels along the lower reach of the Columbia River. The model inputs consist of the discharges from two upstream rivers (Columbia and Willamette Rivers) and the tide characteristics, including the tide range at the estuary mouth (Astoria) and tide constituents. The model is optimized with the selected parameters. The results show that the LightGBM model can achieve high prediction accuracy, with the root-mean-square-error values of water level being reduced to 0.14 m and the correlation coefficient and skill score being in the ranges of 0.975–0.987 and 0.941–0.972, respectively, which are statistically better than those obtained from physics-based models such as the nonstationary tidal harmonic analysis model (NS_TIDE).     A Thymidine Kinase recombinant protein-based ELISA for detecting antibodies to Duck Plague Virus

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Duck plague virus (DPV) is the causative agent of Duck Plague (DP) that causes significant morbidity and mortality throughout duck-producing areas of the world. The diagnosis of DP currently relies on the use of live or inactivated whole DPV virion as antigens in ELISA, but it is too laborious and expensive for routine application, and it is still difficult to get purified DPV virion with current technology.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>In this study, we describe the expression and purification of a recombinant Thymidine Kinase (TK) protein which makes antigen in an in-house developed, optimized and standardized ELISA. The specificity of the optimized TK-ELISA was evaluated by antisera against Duck Plague Virus (DPV), Duck Hepatitis B Virus (DHBV), Duck Hepatitis Virus (DHV), <it>Riemerella Anatipestifer</it>(<it>R. A</it>), <it>Escherichia coli </it>(<it>E. coli</it>) and <it>Salmonella anatum </it>(<it>S. anatum</it>). Only antisera against DPV yielded a specific and strong signal. In order to determine the sensitivity of the TK-ELISA, a panel of diluted sera was tested, and the minimum detection limit of 1:2560 (OD450 nm = 0.401) was obtained according to the endpoint cut-off (0.2438). The repeatability and reproducibility under the experimental conditions demonstrates a low variability (P > 0.05). The suspected sera samples (n = 30) were determined by TK-ELISA and the positive rate is 90% (27/30), and the TK-ELISA showed 83.33% (22+3/30) coincidence rate with the Serum Neutralization Test (SNT) and 90% (24+3/30) coincidence rate with the whole DPV virion based-ELISA (DPV-ELISA). When defining the dynamics of antibody response to attenuated live DPV vaccine, the maximum antibodies is reached after 4 weeks.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The results suggest that the TK-ELISA provides high specificity, sensitivity, repeatability and reproducibility for detection of anti-DPV antibodies in duck sera, and has the potential to be much simpler than DPV-ELISA and SNT for the sera epidemiological investigation.</p

    Exergetic and parametric study of a solar aided coal-fired power plant

    A solar-aided coal-fired power plant realizes the integration of a fossil fuel (coal or gas) and clean energy (solar). In this paper, a conventional 600 MW coal-fired power plant and a 600 MW solar-aided coal-fired power plant have been taken as the study case to understand the merits of solar-aided power generation (SAPG) technology. The plants in the case study have been analyzed by using the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics principles. The solar irradiation and load ratio have been considered in the analysis. We conclude that if the solar irradiation was 925 W/m2 and load ratio of the SAPG plant was 100%, the exergy efficiency would be 44.54% and the energy efficiency of the plant (46.35%). It was found that in the SAPG plant the largest exergy loss was from the boiler, which accounted for about 76.74% of the total loss. When the load ratio of the unit remains at 100%, and the solar irradiation varies from 500 W/m2 to 1,100 W/m2, the coal savings would be in the range of 8.6 g/kWh to 15.8 g/kWh. If the solar irradiation were kept at 925 W/m2 while the load ratio of the plant changed from 30% to 100%, the coal savings could be in the range of 11.99 g/kWh to 13.75 g/kWh.Rongrong Zhai, Yong Zhu, Yongping Yang, Kaiyu Tan and Eric H

    The modified method of reanalysis wind data in estuarine areas

    High-quality wind field data are key to improving the accuracy of storm surge simulations in coastal and estuarine water. These data are also of great significance in studying the dynamic processes in coastal areas and safeguarding human engineering structures. A directional correction method for ECMWF reanalysis wind data was proposed in this paper based on the correlation with the measured wind speed and direction. The results show that the accuracies of wind speed and direction were improved after being modified by the correction method proposed in this paper. The modified wind data were applied to drive the storm surge model of the Yangtze Estuary for typhoon events, which resulted in a significant improvement to the accuracy of hindcasted water levels. The error of the hindcasted highest water levels was reduced by 16–19 cm
