The valley filter efficiency of monolayer graphene and bilayer graphene line defect model
In addition to electron charge and spin, novel materials host another degree
of freedom, the valley. For a junction composed of valley filter sandwiched by
two normal terminals, we focus on the valley efficiency under disorder with two
valley filter models based on monolayer and bilayer graphene. Applying the
transfer matrix method, valley resolved transmission coefficients are obtained.
We find that: i) under weak disorder, when the line defect length is over about
, it functions as a perfect channel (quantized conductance) and
valley filter (totally polarized); ii) in the diffusive regime, combination
effects of backscattering and bulk states assisted intervalley transmission
enhance the conductance and suppress the valley polarization; iii) for very
long line defect, though the conductance is small, polarization is indifferent
to length. Under perpendicular magnetics field, the characters of charge and
valley transport are only slightly affected. Finally we discuss the efficiency
of transport valley polarized current in a hybrid system.Comment: 6 figure
Bootstrap Confidence Intervals for Medical Costs With Censored Observations
Medical costs data with administratively censored observations often arise in cost-effectiveness studies of treatments for life threatening diseases. Mean of medical costs incurred from the start of a treatment till death or certain timepoint after the implementation of treatment is frequently of interest. In many situations, due to the skewed nature of the cost distribution and non-uniform rate of cost accumulation over time, the currently available normal approximation confidence interval has poor coverage accuracy. In this paper, we proposed a bootstrap confidence interval for the mean of medical costs with censored observations. In simulation studies, we showed that the proposed bootstrap confidence interval had much better coverage accuracy than the normal approximation one when medical costs had a skewed distribution. When there is light censoring on medical costs (less than or equal to 25%), we found that the bootstrap confidence interval based on the simple weighted estimator is preferred due to its simplicity and good coverage accuracy. For heavily censored cost data (censoring rate greater than or equal to 30%) with larger sample sizes (n greater than or equal to 200), the bootstrap confidence intervals based on the partitioned estimator has superior performance in terms of both efficiency and coverage accuracy. We also illustrated the use of our methods in a real example
Study on separation characteristics of two-phase flow in double helical separator
The helical separator plays an important role in improving the working efficiency of electric submersible pump. Separation efficiency of two-phase flow in double helical separator is studied by numerical simulation and theoretical calculation. It is found that the separation efficiency of helical separator increases with the increase of gas-liquid ratio and flow rate. At the same time, under the condition of constant helical number and gas-liquid ratio, the separation efficiency is best when the even difference of pitch is 10Â mm
