Properties of superconducting MgB_2 wires: "in-situ" versus "ex-situ" reaction technique
We have fabricated a series of iron-sheathed superconducting wires prepared
by the powder-in-tube technique from (MgB_2)_{1-x}:(Mg+2B)_x initial powder
mixtures taken with different proportions, so that x varies from 0 to 1. It
turned out that "ex-situ" prepared wire (x = 0) has considerable disadvantages
compared to all the other wires in which "in-situ" assisted (0 < x < 1) or pure
"in-situ" (x = 1) preparation was used due to weaker inter-grain connectivity.
As a result, higher critical current densities J_c were measured over the
entire range of applied magnetic fields B_a for all the samples with x > 0.
Pinning of vortices in MgB_2 wires is shown to be due to grain boundaries.
J_c(B_a) behavior is governed by an interplay between the transparency of grain
boundaries and the amount of "pinning" grain boundaries. Differences between
thermo-magnetic flux-jump instabilities in the samples and a possible threat to

Search for a circum-planetary material and orbital period variations of short-period Kepler exoplanet candidates
A unique short-period Mercury-size Kepler exoplanet candidate KIC012557548b
has been discovered recently by Rappaport et al. (2012). This object is a
transiting disintegrating exoplanet with a circum-planetary material -
comet-like tail. Close-in exoplanets, like KIC012557548b, are subjected to the
greatest planet-star interactions. This interaction may have various forms. In
certain cases it may cause formation of the comet-like tail. Strong interaction
with the host star, and/or presence of an additional planet may lead to
variations in the orbital period of the planet. Our main aim is to search for
comet-like tails similar to KIC012557548b and for long-term orbital period
variations. We are curious about frequency of comet-like tail formation among
short-period Kepler exoplanet candidates. We concentrate on a sample of 20
close-in candidates with a period similar to KIC012557548b from the Kepler

Ks band secondary eclipses of WASP-19b and WASP-43b with the Anglo-Australian Telescope
We report new Ks band secondary eclipse observations for the hot-Jupiters
WASP-19b and WASP-43b. Using the IRIS2 infrared camera on the Anglo-Australian
Telescope (AAT), we measured significant secondary eclipses for both planets,
with depths of 0.287 -0.020/+0.020% and 0.181 -0.027/+0.027% for WASP-19b and
WASP-43b respectively. We compare the observations to atmosphere models from
the VSTAR line-by-line radiative transfer code, and examine the effect of C/O
abundance, top layer haze, and metallicities on the observed spectra. We
performed a series of signal injection and recovery exercises on the observed
light curves to explore the detection thresholds of the AAT+IRIS2 facility. We
find that the optimal photometric precision is achieved for targets brighter
than Kmag = 9, for which eclipses as shallow as 0.05% are detectable at >5

Integrated photonic qubit quantum computing on a superconducting chip
We study a quantum computing system using microwave photons in transmission
line resonators on a superconducting chip as qubits. We show that all control
necessary for quantum computing can be implemented by coupling to Josephson
devices on the same chip, and take advantage of their strong inherent
nonlinearities to realize qubit interactions. We analyze the gate error rate to
demonstrate that our scheme is realistic even for Josephson devices with
limited decoherence times. A conceptually innovative solution based on existing
technologies, our scheme provides an integrated and scalable approach to the
next key milestone for photonic qubit quantum computing.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

In this comment, we investigate a common used algorithm proposed by Newman
[M. E. J. Newman, Phys. Rev. E {\bf 64}, 016132(2001)] to calculate the
betweenness centrality for all vertices. The inaccurateness of Newman's
algorithm is pointed out and a corrected algorithm, also with O() time
complexity, is given. In addition, the comparison of calculating results for

Emergence of long memory in stock volatility from a modified Mike-Farmer model
The Mike-Farmer (MF) model was constructed empirically based on the
continuous double auction mechanism in an order-driven market, which can
successfully reproduce the cubic law of returns and the diffusive behavior of
stock prices at the transaction level. However, the volatility (defined by
absolute return) in the MF model does not show sound long memory. We propose a
modified version of the MF model by including a new ingredient, that is, long
memory in the aggressiveness (quantified by the relative prices) of incoming
orders, which is an important stylized fact identified by analyzing the order
flows of 23 liquid Chinese stocks. Long memory emerges in the volatility
synthesized from the modified MF model with the DFA scaling exponent close to
0.76, and the cubic law of returns and the diffusive behavior of prices are
also produced at the same time. We also find that the long memory of order
signs has no impact on the long memory property of volatility, and the memory
effect of order aggressiveness has little impact on the diffusiveness of stock

Mosaic spin models with topological order
We study a class of two-dimensional spin models with the Kitaev-type
couplings in mosaic structure lattices to implement topological orders. We show
that they are exactly solvable by reducing them to some free Majorana fermion
models with gauge symmetries. The typical case with a 4-8-8 close packing is
investigated in detail to display the quantum phases with Abelian and
non-Abelian anyons. Its topological properties characterized by Chern numbers
