    Protective effect of breviscapine on acute lung injury in rats with infectious shock

    Acute lung injury (ALI), during the progression of infectious shock, leads to systemic inflammatory response syndromewith increased pulmonary capillary membrane permeability due to pulmonary inflammation and uncontrolled inflammatoryresponses. It may cause fatality in patients. Here, we evaluated the protective effect of breviscapine on ALI in rats withinfectious shock. Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were assigned into Sham, model [lipopolysaccharide (LPS) group], andbreviscapine treatment groups (LPS + breviscapine group) and weighed. The lung coefficient, and the wet-to-dry weightratio (W/D) and moisture content of lung tissues were calculated. The pathological changes of the lung tissues were detectedusing hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining, and the protein expressions of interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), IL-6, and tumor necrosisfactor-alpha (TNF-α) were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Western blotting was conducted to measurethe protein expressions of toll-like receptor-9 (TLR-9) and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) (p65). Compared with LPSgroup, breviscapine significantly lowered the lung coefficient and the W/D and moisture content of lung tissues, relieved thepathological changes of lung tissues, reduced the protein expression levels of IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α, weakened theactivation of NF-κB (p65) in lung tissues, and repressed the protein expressions of TLR-9 and NF-κB (p65)

    Retrieval of four finger injury at proximal stump amputation with segmental injury along with soft tissue defect and impending compartment syndrome continues to be challenge for the surgeon. Immediate transplant considering temporary ectopic foster as a practical option in special case. We describe temporary ectopic finger implant for crush injury at Metacarpophalangeal (MCP level) with hand torsion along with forearm compartment was fostered to Dorsum of the foot. The torsion fingers was temporary fixed with mini external fixator for stabilization as salvage, ALT free flap was used to cover soft tissue defect of the hand. Replantation of survived figure was performed using the long pedicle to anatomical site without crushing the MCP joint to allow for later tendon transfer for finger. Satisfactory function regained with no foster site (foot) complication like pain or disability. The author validated ectopic foster for amputee as and procedure of choice for salvage of extremity under special circumstances

    We report a 2D layered metal–organic framework (MOF) with wide channels named NUS-1 and its activated analogue NUS-1a composed of Zn<sub>4</sub>O-like secondary building units and tetra­phenyl­ethene (TPE)-based ligand 4,4′-(2,2-di­phenyl­ethene-1,1-diyl)­di­benzoic acid. Due to its special structure, NUS-1a exhibits unprecedented gas sorption behavior, glass-transition-like phase transition under cryogenic conditions, and responsive turn-on fluorescence to various volatile organic compounds. Our approach using angular ligand containing partially fixed TPE units paves a way toward highly porous MOFs with fluorescence turn-on response that will find wide applications in chemical sensing
