Screening for the optimal siRNA targeting a novel gene (HA117) and construction and evaluation of a derivative recombinant adenovirus
We found a novel gene named as HA117 in our previous research. At this study, we screened for an optimal siRNA targeting the novel gene HA117 using the pSOS-HUS method, verified the results of pSOS-HUS siRNA screening for optimal affinity for the target gene, and constructed and evaluated a recombinant adenovirus carrying the DNA template for transcription of the optimal HA117 siRNA. The pSOS-HUS vector method was successfully utilized as a rapid and effective screen for an optimal siRNA for a target gene. Among five pairs of DNA templates, siRNA transcribed from HAi5 gave the strongest interference with the novel gene HA117; a HAi5-carrying recombinant adenovirus (Ad-HAi5) was successfully constructed and evaluated, laying a foundation for the further study of HA117 gene function with RNAi technology
A Calibration Method for Wide Field Multicolor Photometric System
The purpose of this paper is to present a method to self-calibrate the
spectral energy distribution (SED) of objects in a survey based on the fitting
of an SED library to the observed multi-color photometry. We adopt for
illustrative purposes the Vilnius (Strizyz and Sviderskiene 1972) and Gunn &
Stryker (1983) SED libraries. The self-calibration technique can improve the
quality of observations which are not taken under perfectly photometric
conditions. The more passbands used for the photometry, the better the results.
This technique has been applied to the BATC 15-passband CCD survey.Comment: LateX file, 1 PS file, submitted to PASP number 99-025 The English

On Spectral Graph Embedding: A Non-Backtracking Perspective and Graph Approximation
Graph embedding has been proven to be efficient and effective in facilitating
graph analysis. In this paper, we present a novel spectral framework called
NOn-Backtracking Embedding (NOBE), which offers a new perspective that
organizes graph data at a deep level by tracking the flow traversing on the
edges with backtracking prohibited. Further, by analyzing the non-backtracking
process, a technique called graph approximation is devised, which provides a
channel to transform the spectral decomposition on an edge-to-edge matrix to
that on a node-to-node matrix. Theoretical guarantees are provided by bounding
the difference between the corresponding eigenvalues of the original graph and
its graph approximation. Extensive experiments conducted on various real-world
networks demonstrate the efficacy of our methods on both macroscopic and
microscopic levels, including clustering and structural hole spanner detection.Comment: SDM 2018 (Full version including all proofs
Hierarchical theory of quantum dissipation: Partial fraction decomposition scheme
We propose a partial fraction decomposition scheme to the construction of
hierarchical equations of motion theory for bosonic quantum dissipation
systems. The expansion of Bose--Einstein function in this scheme shows similar
properties as it applies for Fermi function. The performance of the resulting
quantum dissipation theory is exemplified with spin--boson systems. In all
cases we have tested the new theory performs much better, about an order of
magnitude faster, than the best available conventional theory based on
Matsubara spectral decomposition scheme.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Chemical Physics special issue

On effects of regular S=1 dilution of S=1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chains by a quantum Monte Carlo simulation
The effects of regular S=1 dilution of S=1/2 isotropic antiferromagnetic
chain are investigated by the quantum Monte Carlo loop/cluster algorithm. Our
numerical results show that there are two kinds of ground-state phases which
alternate with the variation of concentration. When the effective spin
of a unit cell is half-integer, the ground state is ferrimagnetic with gapless
energy spectrum and the magnetism becomes weaker with decreasing of the
concentration . While it is integer, a non-magnetic ground state
with gaped spectrum emerges and the gap gradually becomes narrowed as fitted by
a relation of .Comment: 6 pages, 9 figure
Optimal Investment, Heterogeneous Consumption and Best Time for Retirement
This paper studies an optimal investment and consumption problem with
heterogeneous consumption of basic and luxury goods, together with the choice
of time for retirement. The utility for luxury goods is not necessarily a
concave function. The optimal heterogeneous consumption strategies for a class
of non-homothetic utility maximizer are shown to consume only basic goods when
the wealth is small, to consume basic goods and make savings when the wealth is
intermediate, and to consume almost all in luxury goods when the wealth is
large. The optimal retirement policy is shown to be both universal, in the
sense that all individuals should retire at the same level of marginal utility
that is determined only by income, labor cost, discount factor as well as
market parameters, and not universal, in the sense that all individuals can
achieve the same marginal utility with different utility and wealth. It is also
shown that individuals prefer to retire as time goes by if the marginal labor
cost increases faster than that of income. The main tools used in analyzing the
problem are from PDE and stochastic control theory including variational
inequality and dual transformation. We finally conduct the simulation analysis
for the featured model parameters to investigate practical and economic
implications by providing their figures
