Quantum Information Approach to Bose-Einstein Condensate in a Tilted Double-Well System
We study the ground state properties of bosons in a tilted double-well
system. We use fidelity susceptibility to identify the possible ground state
transitions under different tilt values. For a very small tilt (for example
), two transitions are found. For a moderate tilt (for example
), only one transition is found. For a large tilt (for example
), no transition is found. We explain this by analyzing the spectrum
of the ground state. The quantum discord and total correlation of the ground
state under different tilts are also calculated to indicate those transitions.
In the transition region, both quantities have peaks decaying exponentially
with particle number . This means for a finite-size system the transition
region cannot be explained by the mean-field theory, but in the large- limit
it can be.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, slightly different from the published versio
Uncovering many-body correlations in nanoscale nuclear spin baths by central spin decoherence
Many-body correlations can yield key insights into the nature of interacting
systems; however, detecting them is often very challenging in many-particle
physics, especially in nanoscale systems. Here, taking a phosphorus donor
electron spin in a natural-abundance 29Si nuclear spin bath as our model
system, we discover both theoretically and experimentally that many-body
correlations in nanoscale nuclear spin baths produce identifiable signatures in
the decoherence of the central spin under multiple-pulse dynamical decoupling
control. We find that when the number of decoupling -pulses is odd, central
spin decoherence is primarily driven by second-order nuclear spin correlations
(pairwise flip-flop processes). In contrast, when the number of -pulses is
even, fourth-order nuclear spin correlations (diagonal interaction renormalized
pairwise flip-flop processes) are principally responsible for the central spin
decoherence. Many-body correlations of different orders can thus be selectively
detected by central spin decoherence under different dynamical decoupling
controls, providing a useful approach to probing many-body processes in
nanoscale nuclear spin baths
Purkinje cell-specific Grip1/2 knockout mice show increased repetitive self-grooming and enhanced mGluR5 signaling in cerebellum
Cerebellar Purkinje cell (PC) loss is a consistent pathological finding in autism. However, neural mechanisms of PC-dysfunction in autism remain poorly characterized. Glutamate receptor interacting proteins 1/2 (Grip1/2) regulate AMPA receptor (AMPAR) trafficking and synaptic strength. To evaluate role of PC-AMPAR signaling in autism, we produced PC-specific Grip1/2 knockout mice by crossing Grip2 conventional and Grip1 conditional KO with L7-Cre driver mice. PCs in the mutant mice showed normal morphology and number, and a lack of Grip1/2 expression. Rodent behavioral testing identified normal ambulation, anxiety, social interaction, and an increase in repetitive self-grooming. Electrophysiology studies revealed normal mEPSCs but an impaired mGluR-LTD at the Parallel Fiber-PC synapses. Immunoblots showed increased expression of mGluR5 and Arc, and enhanced phosphorylation of P38 and AKT in cerebellum of PC-specific Grip1/2 knockout mice. Results indicate that loss of Grip1/2 in PCs contributes to increased repetitive self-grooming, a core autism behavior in mice. Results support a role of AMPAR trafficking defects in PCs and disturbances of mGluR5 signaling in cerebellum in the pathogenesis of repetitive behaviors.University of Seville (V PPIT-US)Spain and an National Institute of Health (NIH) (NS085358
Plastic properties and microstructure evolution of 20CrMoA steel during warm deformation
The plastic properties and microstructure evolution of 20CrMoA steel was analyzed at 600-750 °C and strain rate of 0,01-10 s-1.The result reveals that the deformation behavior is hardening followed by softening at low strain rates(0,01 s-1 and 0,1 s-1), but hardening is dominant in the whole deformation process at high strain rates(1 s-1and 10 s-1) and low temperature(600 °C and 650 °C). The strain rate sensitivity exponent increases with the increasing deformation temperature except for 650 °C and high strain rate. The spheroidization mechanism of cementite is the mechanical fracture and the dissolution of cementite particles. At 700 °C, spheroidized particles are finer and their distribution is more uniform than that at 750 °C
Temporal variation of soil moisture over the Wuding River basin assessed with an eco-hydrological model, in-situ observations and remote sensing
The change pattern and trend of soil moisture (SM) in the Wuding River basin, Loess Plateau, China is explored based on the simulated long-term SM data from 1956 to 2004 using an eco-hydrological process-based model, Vegetation Interface Processes model, VIP. In-situ SM observations together with a remotely sensed SM dataset retrieved by the Vienna University of Technology are used to validate the model. In the VIP model, climate-eco-hydrological (CEH) variables such as precipitation, air temperature and runoff observations and also simulated evapotranspiration (<I>ET</I>), leaf area index (LAI), and vegetation production are used to analyze the soil moisture evolution mechanism. The results show that the model is able to capture seasonal SM variations. The seasonal pattern, multi-year variation, standard deviation and coefficient of variation (<I>CV</I>) of SM at the daily, monthly and annual scale are well explained by CEH variables. The annual and inter-annual variability of SM is the lowest compared with that of other CEH variables. The trend analysis shows that SM is in decreasing tendency at α=0.01 level of significance, confirming the Northern Drying phenomenon. This trend can be well explained by the decreasing tendency of precipitation (α=0.1) and increasing tendency of temperature (α=0.01). The decreasing tendency of runoff has higher significance level (α=0.001). Because of SM's decreasing tendency, soil evaporation (<I>ES</I>) is also decreasing (α=0.05). The tendency of net radiation (<I>Rn</I>), evapotranspiration (<I>ET</I>), transpiration (<I>EC</I>), canopy intercept (<I>EI</I>) is not obvious. Net primary productivity (NPP), of which the significance level is lower than α=0.1, and gross primary productivity (GPP) at α=0.01 are in increasing tendency
Mesenchymal stem cells with overexpression of midkine enhance cell survival and attenuate cardiac dysfunction in a rat model of myocardial infarction
Introduction. Elevated midkine (MK) expression may contribute to ventricular remodeling and ameliorate cardiac dysfunction after myocardial infarction (MI). Ex vivo modification of signaling mechanisms in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) with MK overexpression may improve the efficacy of cell-based therapy. This study sought to assess the safety and efficacy of MSCs with MK overexpression transplantation in a rat model of MI. Methods. A pLenO-DCE vector lentivirus encoding MK was constructed and infected in MSCs. MSC migration activity and cytoprotection was examined in hypoxia-induced H9C2 cells using transwell insert in vitro. Rats were randomized into five groups: sham, MI plus injection of phosphate buffered saline (PBS), MSCs, MSCs-green fluorescent protein (MSCs-GFP) and MSCs-MK, respectively. Survival rates were compared among groups using log-rank test and left ventricular function was measured by echocardiography at baseline, 4, 8 and 12 weeks. Results: Overexpression of MK partially prevented hypoxia-induced MSC apoptosis and exerted MSC cytoprotection to anoxia induced H9C2 cells. The underlying mechanisms may be associated with the increased mRNA and protein levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), transformation growth factor-β (TGF-β), insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1a) in MSCs-MK compared with isolated MSCs and MSCs-GFP. Consistent with the qPCR results, the culture supernatant of MSCs-MK had more SDF-1a (9.23 ng/ml), VEGF (8.34 ng/ml) and TGF-β1 (17.88 ng/ml) expression. In vivo, a greater proportion of cell survival was observed in the MSCs-MK group than in the MSCs-GFP group. Moreover, MSCs-MK administration was related to a significant improvement of cardiac function compared with other control groups at 12 weeks. Conclusions: Therapies employing MSCs with MK overexpression may represent an effective treatment for improving cardiac dysfunction and survival rate after MI
Study of the beam profile and position instability of a post-accelerated pseudospark-sourced electron beam
A pseudospark-sourced electron beam is a promising candidate for driving a THz millimeter wave radiation source. However, the physics governing the electron beam density profile and the beam center deviation from the axis of the structure, which may be caused by the randomness in the pseudospark discharge process, remains still unclear especially for the high energy component of the pseudospark-sourced electron beam which is usually non-mono-energetic. It is essential to study the electron beam density profile and the beam center position distribution for optimizing the pseudospark discharge configuration. In this paper, images of some single-shot electron beam pulses have been captured using a 50 μm thickness stopping copper foil and a phosphor screen coated with P47 scintillator to study the electron beam density profile and the beam center position distribution of the high energy component of the electron beam. The experiments have been carried out on two pseudospark discharge configurations with two different size hollow cathode cavities. The influence of the cathode aperture of each configuration has also been studied according to the beam images. Experimental results show that the beam profile of the high energy component has a Lorentzian distribution and is much smaller than the axial aperture size with the beam centers dispersing within a certain range around the axis of the discharge structure. The pseudospark-sourced electron beam with the larger hollow cathode cavity shows smaller full width at half maximum (FWHM) radius and a more concentrated beam center distribution
