Determination of a set of constitutive equations for an al-li alloy at SPF conditions
© 2015 The Authors.Uniaxial tensile tests of aluminium-lithium alloy AA1420wereconducted at superplastic forming conditions. The mechanical properties of this Al-Li alloy were then modelled by a set of physicallybased constitutive equations. The constitutive equations describe the isotropic work hardening, recovery and damage by dislocation density changes and grain size evolution. Based on a recent upgraded optimisation technique, the material constants for these constitutive equations were determined
Wigner crystal and bubble phases in graphene in the quantum Hall regime
Graphene, a single free-standing sheet of graphite with honeycomb lattice
structure, is a semimetal with carriers that have linear dispersion. A
consequence of this dispersion is the absence of Wigner crystallization in
graphene, since the kinetic and potential energies both scale identically with
the density of carriers. We study the ground state of graphene in the presence
of a strong magnetic field focusing on states with broken translational
symmetry. Our mean-field calculations show that at integer fillings a uniform
state is preferred, whereas at non-integer filling factors Wigner crystal
states (with broken translational symmetry) have lower energy. We obtain the
phase diagram of the system. We find that it is qualitatively similar to that
of quantum Hall systems in semiconductor heterostructures. Our analysis
predicts that non-uniform states, including Wigner crystal state, will occur in
graphene in the presence of a magnetic field and will lead to anisotropic
transport in high Landau levels.Comment: New references added; 9 pages, 9 figures, (paper with high-resolution

Photoionization cross sections of O II, O III, O IV, and O V: benchmarking R-matrix theory and experiments
For crucial tests between theory and experiment, ab initio close coupling
calculations are carried out for photoionization of O II, O III, O IV, O V. The
relativistic fine structure and resonance effects are studied using the
R-matrix and its relativistic variant the Breit Pauli R-matrix (BPRM)
approximation. Detailed comparison is made with high resolution experimental
measurements carried out in three different set-ups: Advanced Light Source at
Berkeley, and synchrotron radiation experiments at University of Aarhus and
University of Paris-Sud. The comparisons illustrate physical effects in
photoionization such as (i) fine structure, (ii) resolution, and (iii)
metastable components. Photoionization cross sections sigma{PI} of the ground
and a few low lying excited states of these ions obtained in the experimental
spectrum include combined features of these states. Theoretically calculated
resonances need to be resolved with extremely fine energy mesh for precise
comparison. In addition, prominent resonant features are observed in the
measured spectra from transitions allowed with relativistic fine structure, but
not in LS coupling. The sigma_{PI} are obtained for ground and metastable (i)
2s^22p^3(^4S^o, ^2D^o, ^2P^o) states of O II, (ii) 2s^22p^2(^3P,^1D,^1S) and
2s2p^3(^5S^o) states of O III, (iii) 2s^22p(^2P^o_J) and 2s2p^2(^4P_J) levels
of O IV, and (iv) 2s^2(^1S) and 2s2p(^3P^o,^1P^o) states of O V. It is found
that resonances in ground and metastable cross sections can be a diagnostic of
experimental beam composition, with potential ap plications to astrophysical
and laboratory plasma environments.Comment: 27 pages, 7 figs., submitted to Phys. Rev. A., text with high

Pre-flare coronal dimmings
In this paper, we focus on the pre-flare coronal dimmings. We report our
multiwavelength observations of the GOES X1.6 solar flare and the accompanying
halo CME produced by the eruption of a sigmoidal magnetic flux rope (MFR) in
NOAA active region (AR) 12158 on 2014 September 10. The eruption was observed
by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) aboard the Solar Dynamic Observatory
(SDO). The photospheric line-of-sight magnetograms were observed by the
Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) aboard SDO. The soft X-ray (SXR) fluxes
were recorded by the GOES spacecraft. The halo CME was observed by the white
light coronagraphs of the Large Angle Spectroscopic Coronagraph (LASCO) aboard
SOHO.} {About 96 minutes before the onset of flare/CME, narrow pre-flare
coronal dimmings appeared at the two ends of the twisted MFR. They extended
very slowly with their intensities decreasing with time, while their apparent
widths (89 Mm) nearly kept constant. During the impulsive and decay phases
of flare, typical fanlike twin dimmings appeared and expanded with much larger
extent and lower intensities than the pre-flare dimmings. The percentage of 171
{\AA} intensity decrease reaches 40\%. The pre-flare dimmings are most striking
in 171, 193, and 211 {\AA} with formation temperatures of 0.62.5 MK. The
northern part of the pre-flare dimmings could also be recognized in 131 and 335
{\AA}.} To our knowledge, this is the first detailed study of pre-flare coronal
dimmings, which can be explained by the density depletion as a result of the
gradual expansion of the coronal loop system surrounding the MFR during the
slow rise of the MFR.Comment: 6 pages, 8 figures, to be accepted for publication by A&
A VLSI architecture of JPEG2000 encoder
Copyright @ 2004 IEEEThis paper proposes a VLSI architecture of JPEG2000 encoder, which functionally consists of two parts: discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and embedded block coding with optimized truncation (EBCOT). For DWT, a spatial combinative lifting algorithm (SCLA)-based scheme with both 5/3 reversible and 9/7 irreversible filters is adopted to reduce 50% and 42% multiplication computations, respectively, compared with the conventional lifting-based implementation (LBI). For EBCOT, a dynamic memory control (DMC) strategy of Tier-1 encoding is adopted to reduce 60% scale of the on-chip wavelet coefficient storage and a subband parallel-processing method is employed to speed up the EBCOT context formation (CF) process; an architecture of Tier-2 encoding is presented to reduce the scale of on-chip bitstream buffering from full-tile size down to three-code-block size and considerably eliminate the iterations of the rate-distortion (RD) truncation. This work was supported in part by the China National High Technologies Research Program (863) under Grant 2002AA1Z142
