    Nonlinear Hall Effects in Strained Twisted Bilayer WSe2_2

    Recently, it has been pointed out that the twisting of bilayer WSe2_2 would generate topologically non-trivial flat bands near the Fermi energy. In this work, we show that twisted bilayer WSe2_2 (tWSe2_2) with uniaxial strain exhibits a large nonlinear Hall (NLH) response due to the non-trivial Berry curvatures of the flat bands. Moreover, the NLH effect is greatly enhanced near the topological phase transition point which can be tuned by a vertical displacement field. Importantly, the nonlinear Hall signal changes sign across the topological phase transition point and provides a way to identify the topological phase transition and probe the topological properties of the flat bands. The strong enhancement and high tunability of the NLH effect near the topological phase transition point renders tWSe2_2 and related moire materials new platforms for rectification and second harmonic generations.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures.     A Survey on Delay-Aware Resource Control for Wireless Systems --- Large Deviation Theory, Stochastic Lyapunov Drift and Distributed Stochastic Learning

    In this tutorial paper, a comprehensive survey is given on several major systematic approaches in dealing with delay-aware control problems, namely the equivalent rate constraint approach, the Lyapunov stability drift approach and the approximate Markov Decision Process (MDP) approach using stochastic learning. These approaches essentially embrace most of the existing literature regarding delay-aware resource control in wireless systems. They have their relative pros and cons in terms of performance, complexity and implementation issues. For each of the approaches, the problem setup, the general solution and the design methodology are discussed. Applications of these approaches to delay-aware resource allocation are illustrated with examples in single-hop wireless networks. Furthermore, recent results regarding delay-aware multi-hop routing designs in general multi-hop networks are elaborated.     Collective magnetization dynamics in ferromagnetic (Ga,Mn)As mediated by photo-excited carriers

    We present a study of photo-excited magnetization dynamics in ferromagnetic (Ga,Mn)As films observed by time-resolved magneto-optical measurements. The magnetization precession triggered by linearly polarized optical pulses in the absence of an external field shows a strong dependence on photon frequency when the photo-excitation energy approaches the band-edge of (Ga,Mn)As. This can be understood in terms of magnetic anisotropy modulation by both laser heating of the sample and by hole-induced non-thermal paths. Our findings provide a means for identifying the transition of laser-triggered magnetization dynamics from thermal to non-thermal mechanisms, a result that is of importance for ultrafast optical spin manipulation in ferromagnetic materials via non-thermal paths.Comment: 11 pages, 9 figure

    Independent markers of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in a gentrifying population‐based Chinese cohort

    BackgroundPrevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is increasing in developing countries, but its causes are not known. We aimed to ascertain the prevalence and determinants of NAFLD in a new largely unmedicated population‐based cohort from the rapidly gentrifying region of Pinggu, China.MethodsWe randomized cluster sampled 4002 Pinggu residents aged 26 to 76 years. Data from 1238 men and 1928 women without significant alcohol drinking or hepatitis virus B or C infection were analysed. NAFLD was defined using a liver‐spleen ratio (L/S ratio) ≤1.1 on unenhanced abdominal computed tomography (CT) scanning.ResultsOf men and women, 26.5% and 20.1%, respectively, had NAFLD. NAFLD prevalence was highest in younger men and older women. In multivariate logistic regression models, higher body mass index, waist circumference, serum triglyceride, alanine transaminase, and haemoglobin A1c independently increased the odds of NAFLD in both men and women separately. Higher annual household income and systolic blood pressure for men and higher serum uric acid and red meat intake and lower physical activity levels for women also independently associated with higher odds of NAFLD. Individuals with L/S ratio ≤1.1 had linearly increasing rates of obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome that paralleled fatty liver increase.ConclusionsNAFLD is common in a gentrifying Chinese population particularly in younger men of high socioeconomic status and older women with sedentary behaviour who eat red meat. Demographic factors add independent risk of NAFLD above traditional metabolic risk factors.     The double charm decays of B Mesons in the mSUGRA model

    Based on the low energy effective Hamiltonian with naive factorization, we calculate the branching ratios(BRs) and CP asymmetries (CPAs) for the twenty three double charm decays B/BsD(s)()D(s)()B/B_s \to D^{(*)}_{(s)} D^{(*)}_{(s)} in both the standard model (SM) and the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model. Within the considered parameter space, we find that (a) the theoretical predictions for the BRs, CPAs and the polarization fractions in the SM and the mSUGRA model are all consistent with the currently available data within ±2σ\pm 2\sigma errors; (b) For all the considered decays, the supersymmetric contributions in the mSUGRA model are very small, less than 7%7\% numerically.     Prediction and benefits of minimal disease activity in patients with psoriatic arthritis and active skin disease in the ADEPT trial

    Objectives: To determine the proportion of patients with psoriatic arthritis in the Adalimumab Effectiveness in Psoriatic Arthritis trial achieving minimal disease activity (MDA) and its individual components at 1 or more visits over 144 weeks, identify baseline predictors of MDA achievement, and evaluate the association of MDA status with independent quality of life (QoL)-related patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Methods: Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to identify the baseline characteristics that predicted achievement of MDA at individual time points (weeks 12 through 144) or sustained MDA (achievement of MDA at 2 consecutive time points 12 weeks apart). The association of independent QoL-related PROs with MDA achievement was evaluated at weeks 24 and 144. Results: In univariate analyses, higher baseline patient assessment of pain, tender joint count (TJC), enthesitis and Health Assessment Questionnaire-Disability Index (HAQ-DI) score were significantly associated with lower likelihood of achieving MDA at later time points. Multivariate analyses confirmed higher baseline HAQ-DI as a significant predictor for failure to achieve MDA at later time points. Achievement of sustained MDA was associated with lower baseline TJC and HAQ-DI score. Achievement of different MDA components appeared to be treatment dependent. MDA achievers had significantly better QoL-related PROs and greater improvements in PROs from baseline to week 24 compared with non-achievers. Conclusions: Higher HAQ-DI score was the most consistent baseline factor that decreased the likelihood of achieving MDA and sustained MDA at later time points.
