Large-scale Land Cover Classification in GaoFen-2 Satellite Imagery
Many significant applications need land cover information of remote sensing
images that are acquired from different areas and times, such as change
detection and disaster monitoring. However, it is difficult to find a generic
land cover classification scheme for different remote sensing images due to the
spectral shift caused by diverse acquisition condition. In this paper, we
develop a novel land cover classification method that can deal with large-scale
data captured from widely distributed areas and different times. Additionally,
we establish a large-scale land cover classification dataset consisting of 150
Gaofen-2 imageries as data support for model training and performance
evaluation. Our experiments achieve outstanding classification accuracy
compared with traditional methods.Comment: IGARSS'18 conference pape
Ultrahigh Purcell factor in low-threshold nanolaser based on asymmetric hybrid plasmonic cavity
A low-threshold nanolaser with all three dimensions at the subwavelength scale is proposed and investigated. The nanolaser is constructed based on an asymmetric hybrid plasmonic F-P cavity with Ag-coated end facets. Lasing characteristics are calculated using finite element method at the wavelength of 1550βnm. The results show that owing to the low modal loss, large modal confinement factor of the asymmetric plasmonic cavity structure, in conjunction with the high reflectivity of the Ag reflectors, a minimum threshold gain of 240βcmβ1 is predicted. Furthermore, the Purcell factor as large as 2518 is obtained with optimized structure parameters to enhance rates of spontaneous and stimulated emission
MicroRNA-like RNAs from the same miRNA precursors play a role in cassava chilling responses
Abstract MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are known to play important roles in various cellular processes and stress responses. MiRNAs can be identified by analyzing reads from high-throughput deep sequencing. The reads realigned to miRNA precursors besides canonical miRNAs were initially considered as sequencing noise and ignored from further analysis. Here we reported a small-RNA species of phased and half-phased miRNA-like RNAs different from canonical miRNAs from cassava miRNA precursors detected under four distinct chilling conditions. They can form abundant multiple small RNAs arranged along precursors in a tandem and phased or half-phased fashion. Some of these miRNA-like RNAs were experimentally confirmed by re-amplification and re-sequencing, and have a similar qRT-PCR detection ratio as their cognate canonical miRNAs. The target genes of those phased and half-phased miRNA-like RNAs function in process of cell growth metabolism and play roles in protein kinase. Half-phased miR171d.3 was confirmed to have cleavage activities on its target gene P-glycoprotein 11, a broad substrate efflux pump across cellular membranes, which is thought to provide protection for tropical cassava during sharp temperature decease. Our results showed that the RNAs from miRNA precursors are miRNA-like small RNAs that are viable negative gene regulators and may have potential functions in cassava chilling responses
Dynamic investment, debt structure and debt overhang
We study the impact of the optimal debt and priority structure on the intertwined corporate financing and investment decisions in a dynamic trade-off model, where the firm simultaneously uses bank and market debt for project financing. Private bank debt is renegotiable during financial distress, thus it avoids inefficient and costly bankruptcy losses should the renegotiation be successful. Our model shows: (i) Shareholders' bargaining power, renegotiation friction, growth potential, and bankruptcy costs limits bank debt capacity; (ii) The substitution effect between bank and market debt dominates in most cases; (iii) Bank debt issuance reduces the bankruptcy risk and speeds firm investment, which mitigates the debt overhand effect; (iv) Debt priority structure has a monotonic positive effect on firms' optimal capital structure, the net benefit of mixed debt financing, and firm valuation, the effect of which is much stronger for weaker shareholders, therefore, it would be optimal to place bank debt as senior for firm value maximization; (v) The benefit of mixed debt financing is significant (a firm valuation boost between 5%- 10% ) compared to either the bank debt exclusive or market debt exclusive debt structure
Two classes of minimal generic fundamental invariants for tensors
Motivated by the problems raised by B\"{u}rgisser and Ikenmeyer, we discuss
two classes of minimal generic fundamental invariants for tensors of order 3.
The first one is defined on , where . We study
its construction by obstruction design introduced by B\"{u}rgisser and
Ikenmeyer, which partially answers one problem raised by them. The second one
is defined on . We study its evaluation on the matrix multiplication
tensor and unit tensor when
. The evaluation on the unit tensor leads to the definition of Latin
cube and 3-dimensional Alon-Tarsi problem. We generalize some results on Latin
square to Latin cube, which enrich the understanding of 3-dimensional
Alon-Tarsi problem. It is also natural to generalize the constructions to
tensors of other orders. We illustrate the distinction between even and odd
dimensional generalizations by concrete examples. Finally, some open problems
in related fields are raised.Comment: Some typos were changed.New publication information has been update
