    A Sequential Latent Topic-based Readability Model for Domain-Specific Information Retrieval.

    In domain-specific information retrieval (IR), an emerging problem is how to provide different users with documents that are both relevant and readable, especially for the lay users. In this paper, we propose a novel document readability model to enhance the domain-specific IR. Our model incorporates the coverage and sequential dependency of latent topics in a document. Accordingly, two topical readability indicators, namely Topic Scope and Topic Trace are developed. These indicators, combined with the classical Surface-level indicator, can be used to rerank the initial list of documents returned by a conventional search engine. In order to extract the structured latent topics without supervision, the hierarchical Latent Dirichlet Allocation (hLDA) is used. We have evaluated our model from the user-oriented and system-oriented perspectives, in the medical domain. The user-oriented evaluation shows a good correlation between the readability scores given by our model and human judgments. Furthermore, our model also gains significant improvement in the system-oriented evaluation in comparison with one of the state-of-the-art readability methods

    Effect of 4-nonylphenol on the sperm dynamic parameters, morphology and fertilization rate of Bufo raddei

    4-Nonylphenol (NP) is a compound that causes endocrine disruption and affects sperm quality of mammals and fish. However, the effects of NP on the sperm and fertilization rate of amphibians remain unknown. This study investigates the in vivo and in vitro effects of NP on the sperm dynamic parameters and fertilization rate of Bufo raddei during the period of amplexus and fertilization, and proposes the induction of these effects. In in vivo assay, male B. raddei were exposed to 3 concentrations of NP (50, 200, or 400 ÎŒg/l) or alcohol (0.04‰, control) for 1-3 days. The results suggested that effects on NP on the sperm dynamic parameters, sperm integrity and fertilization rate were not significant (p>0.05). In in vitro assay, the sperm of B. raddei was directly exposed to NP. Based on the results, NP significantly affected the sperm dynamic parameters and integrity (p<0.05). Meanwhile, the sperm reactive oxygen species (ROS) level in the sperm increased significantly (p<0.05), and a negative correlation was recorded between sperm motility and its corresponding ROS level (R=−0.90). Besides, fertilization rate was significantly reduced compared with that of control (p<0.01). The sperm membrane was impaired as well. However, a risk that NP can disrupt the reproduction behavior of B. raddei exists, and the ROS induced by NP and NP itself would be associated with the reduction of fertilization.Keywords: 4-Nonylphenol, Bufo raddei, sperm, morphology, fertilizatio

    AoM: Detecting Aspect-oriented Information for Multimodal Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis

    Multimodal aspect-based sentiment analysis (MABSA) aims to extract aspects from text-image pairs and recognize their sentiments. Existing methods make great efforts to align the whole image to corresponding aspects. However, different regions of the image may relate to different aspects in the same sentence, and coarsely establishing image-aspect alignment will introduce noise to aspect-based sentiment analysis (i.e., visual noise). Besides, the sentiment of a specific aspect can also be interfered by descriptions of other aspects (i.e., textual noise). Considering the aforementioned noises, this paper proposes an Aspect-oriented Method (AoM) to detect aspect-relevant semantic and sentiment information. Specifically, an aspect-aware attention module is designed to simultaneously select textual tokens and image blocks that are semantically related to the aspects. To accurately aggregate sentiment information, we explicitly introduce sentiment embedding into AoM, and use a graph convolutional network to model the vision-text and text-text interaction.     Fast Iterative Graph Computation: A Path Centric Approach

    Abstract—Large scale graph processing represents an inter-esting challenge due to the lack of locality. This paper presents PathGraph for improving iterative graph computation on graphs with billions of edges. Our system design has three unique features: First, we model a large graph using a collection of tree-based partitions and use an path-centric computation rather than vertex-centric or edge-centric computation. Our parallel computation model significantly improves the memory and disk locality for performing iterative computation algorithms. Second, we design a compact storage that further maximize sequential access and minimize random access on storage media. Third, we implement the path-centric computation model by using a scatter/gather programming model, which parallels the iterative computation at partition tree level and performs sequential updates for vertices in each partition tree. The experimental results show that the path-centric approach outperforms vertex-centric and edge-centric systems on a number of graph algorithms for both in-memory and out-of-core graphs

    Cytotoxic secondary metabolites isolated from Penicillium sp. YT2019-3321, an endophytic fungus derived from Lonicera Japonica

    IntroductionEndophytic fungi associated with medicinal plants have proven to possess a high potential to produce structurally diverse metabolites, some of which are valuable for medicinal applications. In this study, Penicillium sp. YT2019-3321, an endophytic fungus derived from traditional Chinese medicine Lonicera japonica, was chemically studied.MethodsThe chemical structures of the isolated compounds were established by a correlative interpretation of HRESIMS and NMR spectroscopic data. The optical resolution of (±)-1 by chiral HPLC yielded individual enantiomers (+)-1 and (–)-1, and their stereochemistry were solved by X-ray diffraction crystallography, respectively.Results and discussionEight structurally diversified secondary metabolites, including two previously unreported polyketides, named (±)-chrysoalide B (1) and penicidone E (2), were isolated and identified from Penicillium sp. YT2019-3321. Compound 2 possessed the Îł-pyridone nucleus, which is rarely found in natural products. Cytotoxic assay revealed that the new compound 2 demonstrated a dose-dependent cytotoxicity against the human pancreatic tumor cells PATU8988T with the IC50 value of 11.4 ÎŒM. Further studies indicated that 2 significantly induced apoptosis of PATU8988T cell lines, characterized by the morphologies abnormity, the reduction of cell number, the upregulation of proportion of apoptotic cells, and the ratio of Bcl-2 to Bax.     Microbiomic signatures of anal fistula and putative sources of microbes

    Anal fistula is a common perianal disease that typically develops from an abscess caused by in-flammation in the area. It has long been believed that intestinal microbes play a significant role in its development, considering its close relation to the intestinal environment. This work attempts to identify the microbiomic signatures of anal fistula, and putative sources of microbes by analyzing microbiomes of 7 anal fistula-associated sites in 12 patients. This study found that microbes in anal fistulas may originate from the skin surface in addition to the intestinal tract. This finding was further validated by NMDS analysis, which also indicated that the microbial communities in the inner and outer openings of the fistula were more similar to their surrounding environments. Using MaAslin2, the characteristics of the microbiome were examined, demonstrating a higher similarity between the abundant bacteria in the anal fistula samples and those found on the skin surface. Moreover, pin-to-pair analysis conducted on all subjects consistently showed a higher abundance of skin-sourced bacteria in anal fistulas. This study identifies the microbiomic signatures of anal fistula, and provides novel insights into the origin of microorganisms in anal fistulas
