Transculturating the modern : Zhang Ruogu\u27s literary life in 1930s Shanghai

Zhang Ruogu 張若谷(1905-1967), now known primarily as an urban writer,2 began his literary career by translating and commenting on French literature in newspapers and journals and subsequently published several urban stories. He was also an active advocate of urban life and played an important role in the introduction of the ideas of the French-style café gathering and European cultural trends. Zhang Ruogu’s literary activities, his admiration of French literature and culture, and his works inspired by the French literary works that he admired or translated, are the focus of investigation of this paper. From Paris to Shanghai and from 19th-century French literature to urban stories of Shanghai of the 1930s, these literary trends and works advanced through a process of translation and interpretation. What occurred during this translation and interpretation process? How does this examination aid us in understanding Zhang Ruogu’s own work and modern Chinese literature? This paper addresses Zhang Ruogu’s translations, adaptations and interpretations of French literature as well as his own literary works

Weighing neutrinos in dynamical dark energy models

We briefly review the recent results of constraining neutrino mass in dynamical dark energy models using cosmological observations and summarize the findings. (i) In dynamical dark energy models, compared to Λ\LambdaCDM, the upper limit of ∑mν\sum m_\nu can become larger and can also become smaller. In the cases of phantom and early phantom (i.e., the quintom evolving from w<−1w<-1 to w>−1w>-1), the constraint on ∑mν\sum m_\nu becomes looser; but in the cases of quintessence and early quintessence (i.e., the quintom evolving from w>−1w>-1 to w<−1w<-1), the constraint on ∑mν\sum m_\nu becomes tighter. (ii) In the holographic dark energy (HDE) model, the tightest constraint on ∑mν\sum m_\nu, i.e., ∑mν<0.105\sum m_\nu<0.105 eV, is obtained, which is almost equal to the lower limit of ∑mν\sum m_\nu of IH case. Thus, it is of great interest to find that the future neutrino oscillation experiments would potentially offer a possible falsifying scheme for the HDE model. (iii) The mass splitting of neutrinos can influence the cosmological fits. We find that the NH case fits the current observations slightly better than the IH case, although the difference of χ2\chi^2 of the two cases is still not significant enough to definitely distinguish the neutrino mass hierarchy.Comment: 3 page

New set of measures to analyze non-equilibrium structures

We introduce a set of statistical measures that can be used to quantify non-equilibrium surface growth. They are used to deduce new information about spatiotemporal dynamics of model systems for spinodal decomposition and surface deposition. Patterns growth in the Cahn-Hilliard Equation (used to model spinodal decomposition) are shown to exhibit three distinct stages. Two models of surface growth, namely the continuous Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) model and the discrete Restricted-Solid-On-Solid (RSOS) model are shown to have different saturation exponents

Genome Announcements, 5(14). doi:10.1128/genomeA.00127-17The complete genome sequence of a sub-subgenotype 2.1i isolate of classical swine fever virus (CSFV), GD317/2011, was determined. Notably, GD317/2011 is distant from the sub-subgenotype 2.1b isolate HEBZ at genes of Erns, E1, E2, P7, NS2, NS5A and the 3=-nontranslated region (3=-NTR) but is closely related to that at genes of Npro, Core, NS3, NS4A, NS4B, and NS5B. © 2017 Zhang et al
