The Mechanical Behavior of the Cable-in-Conduit Conductor in the ITER Project

Cable-in-conduit conductor (CICC) has wide applications, and this structure is often served to undergo heat force-electromagnetic coupled field in practical utilization, especially in the magnetic confinement fusion (e.g., Tokamak). The mechanical behavior in CICC is of relevance to understanding the mechanical response and cannot be ignored for assessing the safety of these superconducting structures. In this chapter, several mechanical models were established to analyze the mechanical behavior of the CICC in Tokamak device, and the key mechanical problems such as the equivalent mechanical parameters of the superconducting cable, the untwisting behavior in the process of insertion, the buckling behavior of the superconducting wire under the action of the thermo-electromagnetic static load, and the Tcs (current sharing temperature) degradation under the thermo-electromagnetic cyclic loads are studied. Finally, we summarize the existing problems and the future research points on the basis of the previous research results, which will help the related researchers to figure out the mechanical behavior of CICC more easily

Molecular dynamics study of the binary Cu_(46)Zr_(54) metallic glass motivated by experiments: Glass formation and atomic-level structure

We have identified a binary bulk metallic glass forming alloy Cu_(46_Zr_(54) by analyzing the structure and thermal behaviors of copper mold cast samples using x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and differential scanning calorimeter. Motivated by these experimental results, we fitted the effective Rosato-Guillope-Legrand-type force field parameters for the binary Cu-Zr alloy system and the atomistic description of glass formation and structure analysis of the Cu_(46)Zr_(54) alloy based on molecular dynamics simulation will be also presented

Knowledge discovery from posts in online health communities using unified medical language system

Patient-reported posts in Online Health Communities (OHCs) contain various valuable information that can help establish knowledge-based online support for online patients. However, utilizing these reports to improve online patient services in the absence of appropriate medical and healthcare expert knowledge is difficult. Thus, we propose a comprehensive knowledge discovery method that is based on the Unified Medical Language System for the analysis of narrative posts in OHCs. First, we propose a domain-knowledge support framework for OHCs to provide a basis for post analysis. Second, we develop a Knowledge-Involved Topic Modeling (KI-TM) method to extract and expand explicit knowledge within the text. We propose four metrics, namely, explicit knowledge rate, latent knowledge rate, knowledge correlation rate, and perplexity, for the evaluation of the KI-TM method. Our experimental results indicate that our proposed method outperforms existing methods in terms of providing knowledge support. Our method enhances knowledge support for online patients and can help develop intelligent OHCs in the future

Does Conservatism Alleviates Firms from Under-over Investments in Pakistan?

This study investigates the relationship between timely recognition of losses in financial reporting and investment efficiency, claiming that accounting conservatism improves the investment efficiency through mitigating under (over) investments of firms listed on Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). For this purpose, annual reports of 142 firms were selected on sample basis from six different sectors covering the period from 2006 to 2011. We find the existence of conservatism in financial reporting of Pakistani firms which was measured through Basu (1997) model, later to develop hypotheses that conservatism improves investment efficiency by alleviating firms from under and over-investments. The results found that accounting conservatism improves investment efficiency of Pakistani firms at insignificant level; however we found that conservatism restricts firms from over-investments at highly significant level. Furthermore, we find significant relation of CEO duality with investment efficiency and conservatism, which inferred that CEO duality, has influenced to improve investment efficiency in Pakistan. As a first study in context of Pakistan, it plays an important role in academic literature of accounting from developing country. A Knowledge-Constrained Role-Based Access Control model for protecting patient privacy in hospital information systems

Current access control mechanisms of the hospital information system can hardly identify the real access intention of system users. A relaxed access control increases the risk of compromise of patient privacy. To reduce unnecessary access of patient information by hospital staff, this paper proposes a Knowledge-Constrained Role-Based Access Control (KCRBAC)model in which a variety of medical domain knowledge is considered in access control. Based on the proposed Purpose Tree and knowledge-involved algorithms, the model can dynamically define the boundary of access to the patient information according to the context, which helps protect patient privacy by controlling access. Compared with the Role-Based Access Control model, KC-RBAC can effectively protectpatient information according to the results of the experiments
