Le tramway et le piéton au cœur des quartiers résidentiels d'aujourd'hui : pouvons-nous en tirer des enseignements du passé ? Un contexte de comparaison franco-tchèque.
International audienceThis paper deals with the tramway-oriented-development across two different cultures, France and the Czech Republic, those current challenges, however, show important common points nowadays, regarding to the transit-modal-share increasing-goals within the sustainable development-politics. Beside the basic urban variables, such as density and mixed-use, our work attempts to develop current researches on transit station pedestrian-accessibility within a several hundred-meter scale. The strengths and weaknesses of each terrain and the "best-practices"-transfer potential can be further observed.
A Revised Publication Model for ECML PKDD
ECML PKDD is the main European conference on machine learning and data
mining. Since its foundation it implemented the publication model common in
computer science: there was one conference deadline; conference submissions
were reviewed by a program committee; papers were accepted with a low
acceptance rate. Proceedings were published in several Springer Lecture Notes
in Artificial (LNAI) volumes, while selected papers were invited to special
issues of the Machine Learning and Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery
journals. In recent years, this model has however come under stress. Problems
include: reviews are of highly variable quality; the purpose of bringing the
community together is lost; reviewing workloads are high; the information
content of conferences and journals decreases; there is confusion among
scientists in interdisciplinary contexts. In this paper, we present a new
publication model, which will be adopted for the ECML PKDD 2013 conference, and
aims to solve some of the problems of the traditional model. The key feature of
this model is the creation of a journal track, which is open to submissions all
year long and allows for revision cycles.Comment: 13 page
Attempting to Analyse (Language) Awareness: a foray into the realm of people\u27s perceptions of, attitudes towards, and conceptions about language
This paper presents the process and results of a written questionnaire administered online to 200 individuals, designed to elicit their perceptions of, conceptions about, and attitudes toward language, The questionnaire was based on similar questionnaires presented orally in small groups to European pupils in the context of Language Awareness curriculum projects. The author presents respondents\u27 answers to each question, grouped according to major patterns and underlying themes in the responses. Finally, possible questions for further research are posed, based on the patterns that emerged in the current study
