Intradural-intramedullary intervertebral disc extrusion (IIVDE) is a subtype of herniation of the hydrated nucleus pulposus and occurs after extreme exercise or traumatic events. IIVDE is a rare condition, and its diagnosis can be complex since its clinical characteristics and images are poorly characterized. The case of a six-month-old Schnauzer who suffered a fall from a height of two stories is reported. The patient developed spastic tetraplegia and was diagnosed as a fourth-degree acute cervical spinal cord injury. The radiographic and computed tomography studies only reported a simple fracture in the vertebral body of C3. The magnetic resonance study reported intramedullary linear tracts, parenchymal lesions and reduced disc volume in C3-C4. The clinical condition and its evolution, as well as the imaging findings were compatible with IIVDE.La extrusión de disco intervertebral intradural-intramedular es un subtipo de herniación del núcleo pulposo hidratado y se presenta luego de ejercicio extremo o eventos traumáticos. Electrolytes based on a poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL)/siloxane organic/inorganic host framework doped with magnesium triflate (Mg(CF3SO3)2) were synthesized by the sol-gel process. In the biohybrid matrix short PCL chains are covalently bonded via urethane linkages to the siliceous network. In this study the salt content of samples was identified using the conventional n notation, where n indicates the number of (C(=O)(CH2)5O) PCL repeat units per Mg2+ ion. Materials with compositions ranging from n=∞ to 2 were prepared. The only composition prepared that is not entirely amorphous is that with n = 1. Xerogels with n ≥ 7 are thermally stable up to up to at least 200 ºC. The most conducting ormolyte of the series is that with n = 26 (5.9x10-9 and 9.8x10-7 Scm-1 at 24 and 104 ºC, respectively).Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologi

An 8-month-old male American Bully dog was brought to the clinic for an abnormal structure in the ventral region on the left side of the jaw. On palpation, enlargement of the left mandibular ramus was identified, with pain when opening the mouth. In blood biochemistry, alkaline phosphatase and serum phosphorus increased considerably. X-rays identified a marked proliferation of the periosteum with soft tissue invasion in the mandible. Computed tomography ruled out temporomandibular disorders. Treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs was administered orally, allowing the patient to eat without discomfort two weeks after the start of treatment. The clinical, imaging and histopathology evidence was compatible with a case of craniomandibular osteopathy in a non-predisposed breed.

The sol-gel process has been used to prepare hybrid electrolytes composed of a poly(oxyethylene) (POE)/siloxane hybrid network doped with lithium tetrafluoroborate (LiBF4) with compositions of n between ∞ and 2.5. In this context the lithium salt concentration is expressed in terms of the number of oxyethylene units in the organic component of the network per Li+ ion. Electrolyte samples with n ≥ 20 are thermally stable up to approximately 250 ºC. All the materials synthesized are semi-crystalline: in the composition range n ≥ 15 free crystalline POE exists and at 60 ≥ n ≥ 2.5 evidence of the presence of a crystalline POE/LiBF4 compound has been found. At n = 2.5 this latter crystalline phase coexists with free salt. The room temperature conductivity maximum of this electrolyte system is located at n = 10 (1.5x10-5 S cm-1 at 22 ºC). The electrochemical stability domain of the sample with n = 15 spans about 5.5 V versus Li/Li+. This new series of materials represents a promising alternative to the LiTFSI- and LiClO4-doped POE and POE/siloxane analogues. Preliminary tests performed with a prototype electrochromic device (ECD) comprising the sample with n = 8 as electrolyte and WO3 as cathodically coloring layer are extremely encouraging. The device exhibits switching time around 50 s, an optical density change of 0.13, open circuit memory of about 4 months and high coloration efficiency (106 cm2C-1 in the 3rd cycle).Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologi

The authors wish to make a change to their published paper [1]. In the original manuscript, there is a mistake in a sentence in Section 3.5, on page 10. Two words “anions and cations” were reverted by mistake. The corrected sentence is shown below: The strain developed as a response to the applied electrical field results from the diffusion of the ions and migration to the positive (anions) and negative (cations) electrode layers, and subsequent accumulation close to the electrodes. The authors apologize for any inconvenience caused, and the change does not affect the scientific results. The manuscript will be updated, and the original will remain online on the article webpage at https://www.mdpi.com/2073-4360/12/5/1187.(undefined

Received: February 23rd, 2022 ; Accepted: May 1st, 2022 ; Published: May 11th, 2022 ; Correspondence: [email protected] developing countries, residual biomass usage by means of anaerobic digestion offers several benefits and opportunities, such as a sustainable energy source, production of organic fertilizers and new agrobusiness models. In Latin America, Colombia is one of the most promising markets for the implementation of this technology in terms of availability of biomass and economic growth, as recently reported by local government organizations. In this paper, special attention is given to Antioquia, a department of Colombia with the largest farms of cattle and pigs, according to information reported in 2018 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. It is estimated that manure from the porcine subsector in Antioquia has an approximate technical-energy potential of 1,896 TJ year-1 , varying from 1,611 to 2,186 TJ year-1 , corresponding to the 95% confidence interval. In the case of manure generated by the livestock subsector in Antioquia, it is estimated a theoretical energy potential of 8,566 TJ year-1 . However, traditional extensive production systems disseminate manure through the pastures turning centralization of the available residual biomass a difficult task and not senseful. Based on the local practices of the specialized dairy subsector, it is estimated that manure collected during the milking process could reached up to 25% of the total available. Biochemical conversion of this amount of biomass has an estimated technical-energy potential of 187 TJ year-1 , varying from 156 and 236 TJ year-1 , corresponding to the 95% confidence. The aim of this article is to estimate the technical-energy potential for the livestock and porcine subsectors in the Department of Antioquia, based on the available residual biomass according to local farming practices

Evidence of random magnetic anisotropy in ferrihydrite nanoparticles based on analysis of statistical distributions

We show that the magnetic anisotropy energy of antiferromagnetic ferrihydrite depends on the square root of the nanoparticles volume, using a method based on the analysis of statistical distributions. The size distribution was obtained by transmission electron microscopy, and the anisotropy energy distributions were obtained from ac magnetic susceptibility and magnetic relaxation. The square root dependence corresponds to random local anisotropy, whose average is given by its variance, and can be understood in terms of the recently proposed single phase homogeneous structure of ferrihydrite.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figure

The title compound, C6H6Cl2N4O2, was prepared by the nucleophilic substitution of 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine by glycine methyl ester hydrochloride, and was isolated from the reaction by using flash chromatography. The crystal structure at 150 K reveals the presence two crystallographically independent molecules in the asymmetric unit which differ in the orientation of the pendant methoxycarbonyl group. Each molecular unit is engaged in strong and highly directional N—H⋯N hydrogen-bonding interactions with a symmetry-related molecule, forming supramolecular dimers which act as the synthons in the crystal packing

Variable chain length di-urethane cross-linked poly(oxyethylene) (POE)/siloxane hybrid networks were prepared by application of a sol-gel strategy. These materials, designated as di-urethanesils (represented as d-Ut(Y’), where Y’ indicates the average molecular weight of the polymer segment), were doped with lithium triflate (LiCF3SO3). The two host hybrid matrices used, d-Ut(300) and d-Ut(600), incorporate POE chains with approximately 6 and 13 (OCH2CH2) repeat units, respectively. All the samples studied, with compositions ∞ > n ≥ 1 (where n is the molar ratio of (OCH2CH2) repeat units per Li+),, are entirely amorphous. The di-urethanesils are thermally stable up to at least 200 ºC. At room temperature the conductivity maxima of the d-Ut(300)- and d-Ut(600)-based di-urethanesil families are located at n = 1 (approximately 2.0x10-6 and 7.4x10-5 Scm-1, respectively). At about 100 ºC, both these samples also exhibit the highest conductivity of the two electrolyte systems (approximately 1.6x10-4 and 1.0x10-3 Scm-1, respectively). The d-Ut(600)-based xerogel with n = 1 displays excellent redox stability.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT
