    Minimal Uncertainty in Momentum: The Effects of IR Gravity on Quantum Mechanics

    The effects of the IR aspects of gravity on quantum mechanics is investigated. At large distances where due to gravity the space-time is curved, there appears nonzero minimal uncertainty Δp0\Delta p_{0} in the momentum of a quantum mechanical particle. We apply the minimal uncertainty momentum to some quantum mechanical interferometry examples and show that the phase shift depends on the area surrounded by the path of the test particle . We also put some limits on the related parameters. This prediction may be tested through future experiments. The assumption of minimal uncertainty in momentum can also explain the anomalous excess of the mass of the Cooper pair in a rotating thin superconductor ring.Comment: 8 pages, revised version accepted by PR

    Sport event attributes influencing sport tourists' attendance at Sepak Takraw event

    The use of traditional sports events as modern sport tourism products has grown rapidly over recent decades. This article investigated differences in sport attributes that influence sport tourists' behavioral choices for attending a sepak takraw event using the human and nucleus component of Leiper's tourism attraction system. The study uses a sample of 316 sport tourists including domestic sport tourists (n=224) and foreign sport tourists (n=92) attending ISTAF Super Series. The findings reveal different factors were important to domestic sport tourists compared to foreign sport tourists. Domestic respondents reported that sport event attributes such as convenience and accessibility, game attractiveness, and sport facility were important in their decisions to attend a sepak takraw event while foreign sport tourists perceived cost to be a necessary sport attribute for their attendance. This article provides support for a sepak takraw as an event product that offers new sport marketing opportunities for particular target market segments within small-scale sport tourism

    Cancellation of soft and collinear divergences in noncommutative QED

    In this paper, we investigate the behavior of non-commutative IR divergences and will also discuss their cancellation in the physical cross sections. The commutative IR (soft) divergences existing in the non-planar diagrams will be examined in order to prove an all order cancellation of these divergences using the Weinberg's method. In non-commutative QED, collinear divergences due to triple photon splitting vertex, were encountered, which are shown to be canceled out by the non-commutative version of KLN theorem. This guarantees that there is no mixing between the Collinear, soft and non-commutative IR divergences

    Detection of human papillomavirus DNA sequences in oral lesions using polymerase chain reaction

    The purpose of the present study was to estimate the frequency of HPV DNA in four groups of oral lesions, including oral squamous cell carcinoma. Sixty paraffin-embedded oral tissue samples were examined for the presence of HPV DNAs using the PCR technique. These specimens were obtained from patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), leukoplakia, oral lichen planus (OLP), and pyogenic granuloma (PG). Consensus primers for L1 region (MY09 and MY11) and specific primers were used for detection of HPV DNA sequences in this study. we detected HPV DNA in 60% (9 out of 15) of OSCCs, 26.7% (4 out of 15) of leukoplakia, 13.3% (2 out of 15) of OLPs, and 6.7% (1 out of 15) of PGs. Statistical analysis showed that the prevalence of HPV in OSCC was significantly higher than other groups (P < 0.05). The frequency of HPV-16 and 18 detection in OSCC samples were 40% and 20%, respectively. The prevalence of these high risk HPVs was significantly higher in OSCC group (P < 0.05). The results of the present study show a successive increase of detection rate of HPV-16 and 18 DNAs from low level in samples of pyogenic granuloma and non-premalignant or questionably premalignant lesions of OLP to premalignant leukoplakia and to OSCC. © 2007 Tehran University of Medical Sciences.     Micelle-Mediated Extraction and Cloud Point Pre-concentration for the Spectrophotometric Determination of Phenol in Water Samples

    In this paper, a cloud point extraction method for the determination of trace amounts of phenol by spectrophotometry is described. The method is based on the colour reaction of phenol with diazotized p-nitroanilinean alkaline media and the cloud point extraction of azo dye product using of nonionic surfactant Triton X-114. The effects of reaction and extraction parameters were studied and optimum parameters were established. The calibration graph was linear in the range of 2.0–400 ng mL–1 of phenol. Detection limit based on three times the standard deviation of the blank (3Sb) was 1.0 ng mL–1 and the relative standard deviation (RSD) for 50 ng mL–1 of phenol was 1.73 % (n=10).     Generation of circular polarization of the CMB

    According to the standard cosmology, near the last scattering surface, the photons scattered via Compton scattering are just linearly polarized and then the primordial circular polarization of the CMB photons is zero. In this work we show that CMB polarization acquires a small degree of circular polarization when a background magnetic field is considered or the quantum electrodynamic sector of standard model is extended by Lorentz-noninvariant operators as well as noncommutativity. The existence of circular polarization for the CMB radiation may be verified during future observation programs and it represents a possible new channel for investigating new physics effects.Comment: 28 pages, v3, Phys.     Optimal Control of HIV Dynamic Using Embedding Method

    This present study proposes an optimal control problem, with the final goal of implementing an optimal treatment protocol which could maximize the survival time of patients and minimize the cost of drug utilizing a system of ordinary differential equations which describes the interaction of the immune system with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Optimal control problem transfers into a modified problem in measure space using an embedding method in which the existence of optimal solution is guaranteed by compactness of the space. Then the metamorphosed problem is approximated by a linear programming (LP) problem, and by solving this LP problem a suboptimal piecewise constant control function, which is more practical from the clinical viewpoint, is achieved. The comparison between the immune system dynamics in treated and untreated patients is introduced. Finally, the relationships between the healthy cells and virus are shown

    Effect of dietary dilution of energy and nutrients during different growing periods on compensatory growth of Ross broilers

    A completely randomized design was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary dilution of energy and nutrients during different growing periods on compensatory growth of Ross broilers. Four replicant pens were assigned per seven treatments. Chicks in each treatment received concentrated and diluted diets in different stages of growing periods (starter, grower and finisher). The diets were mainly based on maize and soybean meal and had constant ratio of metabolizable energy/nutrients. It was concluded that feed intake, feed conversion, production index, feed cost and metabolizable energy per weight gain of chicks receiving concentrated diets during all stages of growing periods were the same as the chicks receiving diluted diets during finisher period (P > 0.05). The amount of abdominal fat was significantly lower in chicks receiving diluted diets during finisher period (P &#8804 0.05). Mortality percentage in chicks receiving concentrated diets during all stages of growing periods was significantly more than other treatments (P &#8804 0.05). Based on the results of the experiment, diluted diets for finisher period of Ross broilers male chicks is suggested
