No full text
Background & objectives: The growing numbers of cosmetic treatments, especially Botox in recent years, and the limited researches on the mental characteristics of those applying for this type of cosmetic surgery, have necessitated more attention to this matter. The aim of this study was to compare appearance schema and emotional processing in applicants and non-applicants of botox injection. Methods: the present work was cross-sectional (causal-comparative) study. The statistical population of the study consisted of all individuals referring to beauty clinics (dermatology, hair, beauty) in Ardabil, second half of 1396. Among them, 60 subjects (30 applicants and 30 non-applicants for Botox cosmetic) were selected through convenience sampling procedure. Furthermore, Appearance Schema Inventory (ASI) and Baker et al’s Emotional Processing Questionnaire were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA). Results: The results showed a significant difference between the mean of appearance schema and emotional processing in applicants and non- applicants (p<0.01). The amount of visual schema (self-assessment and self-motivation) and emotional processing was high in the Botox group (p<0.01) and non-Botox group (p<0.01) respectively. Conclusion: results indicated that Botox and beauty enthusiasts had high appearance schemas and low emotional processing. These people in compared to non-applicants were more likely to experience difficulties

Research Paper: Fabrication and Study of Planar Waveguide Based on SU-8 Polymer using Different Substrates

In this work, the planar waveguides are investigated by depositing a SU-8 polymer on PET and quartz substrates. Maxwell equations are solved for the designed waveguides to obtain the characteristic equations. By solving these equations, the minimum thickness of SU-8 necessary for operation as a waveguide is found. Afterward, the waveguides are fabricated and characterized by profilometry and UV-Vis-IR spectroscopy. It is observed that SU-8 polymer shows suitable optical transmission. Then, the effective refractive index of the waveguide, as well as the wave propagation, is recognized by the finite element method. The results of simulations show that the total reflectance phenomenon that is required for a waveguide operation is occurring more effectively in the PET/SU-8 device than in the Quartz/SU-8 and in a waveguide configuration, it possesses better performance. Also, the flexibility and low cost of PET make it a proper candidate for substitution of the typical rigid substrate such as quartz

Most science production and commercialization, universities and education institutes are expected to take advantage of their resources most effectively and efficiently. Among educational departments, technical and engineering departments of universities and educational institutes play the more important role for research and development (R&D) outputs. The purpose of this paper is to take advantage of a model for evaluation of R&D performance of technical and engineering department of universities and educational institutes in both production and publication of science via network data envelopment analysis mechanism. For survey population, eight technical and engineering departments were selected in Yazd University to evaluate their R&D outputs. Their evaluations were preformed from two point of views; production and publication of science. Their production science also evaluated from two perspectives; first, the grants of researchers and educators, and the other, the number of papers, published books, research proposals and discoveries. From publication of science point of view, papers, published books, proposals, dissertations, registered inventions and discoveries, the sum of proposals, the sum of education and consultation contracts, the sum of supported dissertations and the sum of commercialized inventions were used. The results show that seven out of eight departments of science production and six out of eight departments of science publication are neither effective nor efficient

Background: Despite the beneficial effects of the internet, inappropriate, and overuse of it may result in negative consequences such as internet addiction (IA). Despite the increasing uses of the internet among students and the concern about IA, the mechanism and the direction of association between IA and psychological stain is still unknown. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the correlation between IA and psychological strain in nursing and midwifery students of Islamic Azad University, Qom Branch, in 2018. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out on 298 nursing and midwifery students of Islamic Azad University, Qom Branch. The students were recruited through a census method and responded to a three-part instrument. The study instrument included questions addressing the students' characteristics, the Young's IA Test, and the Osipow Psychological Strain Inventory. Data analysis was performed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The mean age of the students was 21.93 ± 2.91 years. The mean IA and psychological strain were 53.12 ± 16.66 and 25.22 ± 7.33, respectively. About 50 of the students were moderately addicted to the internet, and 53 of the students showed moderate psychological strain. A direct significant correlation was found between IA and psychological strain in nursing and midwifery students (P = 0.001 and r = 0.41). IA and students' age could predict psychological strain in nursing and midwifery students (r^2 = 0.18). Conclusion: A majority of nursing and midwifery students showed moderate levels of IA and psychological strain, and these two variables are significantly correlated. The authorities in nursing and midwifery education should establish appropriate strategies to diminish the harmful effects of excessive internet use by the students

Objective(s): TSH suppression by Levothyroxine consumption is a mainstayof thyroid cancer treatment. Tablet-splitting is a worldwide approach in doseadjustment in patients. However, it is highly recommended to evaluate the validityof tablet splitting for each distinctive drug by clinical trials before routinely usingtablet halves in clinical practice. In this study we compared the effect of 150 μg doseof Levothyroxine by use of a100 and a 50 μg tablets or one and half 100 μg tablets inDifferentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) patients. Methods: One hundred DTC patients treated with one and half 100 μg Levothyroxinetablets were randomly divided into two groups. The first group continued takingmedication as before and the second group received the same daily dose by taking one100 and one 50 microgram Levothyroxine tablets. The mean changes in TSH and T3levels and patients weight were compared between the groups. Results: 91 patients completed the study. Levothyroxine consumption pattern, age, gender distribution, weight and TSH levels were comparable between groups at thebeginning of the study. The mean change of body weights, serum levels of T3 and TSHshowed no significant difference between groups in different time points during thestudy (P>0.05).Conclusion: This study showed similar efficacy of tablet splitting and two tabletsadministration for Levothyroxine; however, patients preferred two tablets at the endof the study. It can be concluded that tablet splitting can be used as an alternative waywhen the 50 μg tablet is not available

Introduction: Long bone segmental deficiencies are challenging complications to treat. Hereby, the effects of the scaffold derived from the human demineralized bone matrix (hDBMS) plus human adipose stem cells (hADSs) plus photobiomodulation (PBM) (in vitro and or in vivo) on the catabolic step of femoral bone repair in rats with critical size femoral defects (CDFDs) were evaluated with stereology and high stress load (HSL) assessment methods. Methods: hADSs were exposed to PBM in vitro; then, the mixed influences of hDBMS+hADS+PBM on CSFDs were evaluated. CSFDs were made on both femurs; then hDBMSs were engrafted into both CSFDs of all rats. There were 6 groups (G)s: G1 was the control; in G2 (hADS), hADSs only were engrafted into hDBMS of CSFD; in G3 (PBM) only PBM therapy for CSFD was provided; in G4 (hADS+PBM in vivo), seeded hADSs on hDBMS of CSFDs were radiated with a laser in vivo; in G5 (hADSs+PBM under in vitro condition), hADSs in a culture system were radiated with a laser, then transferred on hDBMS of CSFDs; and in G6 (hADS+PBM in conditions of in vivo and in vitro), laser-exposed hADSs were transplanted on hDBMS of CSFDs, and then CSFDs were exposed to alaser in vivo. Results: Groups 4, 5, and 6 meaningfully improved HSLs of CSFD in comparison with groups 3, 1, and 2 (all, P=0.001). HSL of G5 was significantly more than G4 and G6 (both, P=0.000). Gs 6 and 4 significantly increased new bone volumes of CSFD compared to Gs 2 (all, P=0.000) and 1 (P=0.001 & P=0.003 respectively). HSL of G 1 was significantly lower than G5 (P=0.026).Conclusion: HSLs of CSFD in rats that received treatments of hDBMS plus hADS plus PBM were significantly higher than treatments with hADS and PBM alone and in control groups.
