Este artículo examina los mecanismos por los que una oración copulativa con doble sintagma nominal puede adoptar la función de caracterización más propia de los sintagmas adjetivales. La teoría aquí defendida es que la función caracterizadora de una oración copulativa de sintagma nominal viene determinada por tres factores: el grado de fuerza referencial del atributo, el tópico del texto en que aparece la oración y la literalidad del sentido de cópula que posee la oración.This article examines the mechanisms that enable a copular clause of the SN is SN type to act as a predicational clause, a function typically associated with adjectival groups. The claim made here is that the function of the copular clause is determined by three factors: the referential strength of the attribute, the topic of the text surrounding the clause, and the type of copular relation established by the clause, which can be either literal or fictional

Stative situations and the Progressive construction (be/estar + gerund) in English and Spanish: a contrastive corpus-based analysis

This paper explores the frequency with which English and Spanish make use of the Progressive construction (be + gerun, estar + gerund) with stative predicates. The behaviour of different verbs typically associated with stative process types has been examined in corpora of one million words of the European variety of both languages. This has revealed not just differences in the frequency of use of the Progressive construction, but also in the restrictions imposed on certain verbs in English and Spanish

La generación de tiempo y aspecto en inglés y español un estudio funcional contrastivo

Esta tesis ofrece un análisis contrastivo de los sistemas de tiempo y aspecto del inglés y el español basado en un estudio de corpus. Los corpora empleados fueron el Corpus de referencia del español actual (CREA) para español y el Brithish National Corpus (BNC) para inglés, y el marco teórico utilizado en el análisis de los datos proviene de la gramática sistémico-funcional. Los resultados de dicho análisis fueron aplicados posteriormente a la creación de recursos lingüísticos para la generación automática de tiempo y aspecto en textos de los dos idiomas mediante el generador KPML
