Moufang Loops, Magmas And The Moufang Identities

    Get PDF
Loop theory is a generalization of group theory; Moufang loops are a variety of loops. Four equivalent (Moufang) identities axiomatize these loops. Moufang loops also share many similar properties as groups though generally they are not associative; Moufang’s Theorem is pivotal in establishing this close relationship. The existing proof of the equivalence of the Moufang identities involves the notion of "autotopism", a completely difficult concept in itself, whereas there is no known complete proof of the Moufang’s Theorem (though several reasonably acceptable proofs exist). This thesis provides a simple, basic and complete proof of both. Moreover, the equivalence of the localized versions of the four identities is studied under the generalized setting of magmas and proven under necessary and sufficient conditions. Finally, this research gives a (partial) resolution of Moufang loops of odd order p2q4

Phytochemical constituents and effects of aqueous root-bark extract of Ficus sycomorus L. (Moracaea) on muscular relaxation, anaesthetic and sleeping time on laboratory animals

Aqueous extract of the leaves, stem-bark and root-bark of Ficus sycomorus were screened for chemical constituents and effects on muscle relaxation, local anaesthetic and sleeping time on 20 wister rats (138.7 - 143.9g ± 22.4 ) and one rabbit (1300 g ± 0.00). The extract contained tannins, alkaloids, reducing compounds, saponins, flavonoids, steroid, terpenoids and anthracenoside. The aqueous root bark extract induced 50% anaesthesia at 30 mg/ml on rabbit compared with xylocaine. The extract was alsotested on rats to see its effect on aminobarbitone sleeping time as it increased the period. The extract was observed to show muscle relaxation in rats. It promotes muscle relaxantion and increased aminobarbitone sleeping time in rats. Hence, F. sycomorus exhibits pharmacological activities

Factors Influencing Mechanized Farming and Farm Size Ownership in Nigeria

Agricultural Extension services in Nigeria had been making concerted efforts to make farmers adopt improved technology in their farm operations. If the country is to achieve increased food production for her teeming population, adoption of improved technology and increased farm size is inevitable. According to Amao et al, (2003) rural farmers cultivating an average of one hectare each still characterize the Nigerian agricultural sector. This paper examined the factors that influence the adoption of mechanized farm technology and farm size increase among rural farmers in Nigeria. Data on methods of farm land preparation, farm size and Agricultural Development Program (ADP) inputs to rural farmers were randomly collected from 435 rural farmers between 2006 and 2009. The instrument for data collection was a set of structured questionnaire cum oral discussion. The oral discussion focused on methods of farmland preparation, need for increased farm size as a means of improving farm output and sustainability. The data generated were subjected to t-test and regression analysis. Result show that farm size increased as irrigational facilities and loan to farmers were increased while farm technology is positively influenced by irrigation facilities, loan and presence of extension agents. The implication is that increased food production will be achieved if farmers are provided irrigation facilities and loans as these motivates the adoption of mechanized farm technology

The roles of Melanesians in the development of the Church in Melanesia 1925-1975

The Church of Melanesia has been independent for almost forty years and to date, no detailed examination of the roles of the Melanesians in the development of the church in Melanesia has been available. While most missionaries were aware of the importance of the roles of Melanesians, their writings did not focus on this reality. This research is therefore done to expose what seems to be a ‘silent’ subject. The research is historical, anthropological, sociological, and missiological/theological. It attempts to answer questions pertaining to the subject of this thesis by examining the people of Melanesia and their society in relation to God through their participation in the church. The initial primary goal of the Melanesian mission was the ‘development of the whole humanity’ embedded in the ethos of ‘true religion, sound learning and useful industry.’ The Melanesian undertakings through the Melanesian Brotherhood (MBH), education institutions, healthcare services, Taroniara industrial development and the local village communities were guided by these principles. Three common themes continue to re-emerge in this thesis. .

This study examined the Effect of Financing on Profitability of Sawmill Industries in Cross River State, Nigeria. The study was conducted at enterprise level in Cross River State with a sample of 80 saw millers to ascertain the effect of finance on their profitability. The result shows that amount borrowed business experience, level of education, cost of labour and extension visits were significantly influencing the profitability of saw millers. The study concluded that the entrepreneurs should be enlightened since the level of education impacted positively to profitability of the saw millers in the area. Keywords: financing, sawmill profitability, entrepreneur

Use of Angiotensin II for Post Cardiopulmonary Bypass Vasoplegic Syndrome

© 2019 The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Angiotensin II is a novel vasopressor recently approved for the treatment of vasodilatory shock. We describe a case in which Angiotensin II was used to treat post–cardiopulmonary bypass vasoplegic syndrome in a patient who was refractory to standard vasopressors and other rescue therapies. Despite requiring high-dose vasopressors, the patient was extubated within 24 hours and has met key quality metrics defined by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons

AGRICULTURE AND BIOLOGY JOURNAL OF NORTH AMERICA Biodiversity and agricultural productivity enhancement in Nigeria: application of processed Moringa oleifera seeds for improved organic farming

ABSTRACT A mini field trial on the use and bio-decomposition of moringa oleifera seed cake as organic fertilzer was carried out in the Sheda Science and Technology Complex. The field investigation established the fact that organic farming based on the use of processed Moringa Oleifera seed as fertilizer on a maize farm achieved significant improvement on soil nutrients as shown in the plant yield as compared to the control. This integrated biodiversity management approach to agriculture will afford the farmers in developing societies like Nigeria ready sources of organic fertilizers with a view to optimizing crop production and environmental protection and ultimately reduce poverty
