    Progressive Muslims' approach to Hadith texts: women issues in focus

    The issues surrounding Muslim women have widely been of central importance to the contemporary study of Islam, especially those which critic of Islam use as ammunition. By using the case of Progressive Islam as the focal-point, this study explores the impact of modernity on contemporary Muslims' attitudes towards the hadith of the Prophet SAW in particular women issues and polemics. Such methodological issue must not be taken lightly because it is needed the root of the misinterpretation and misunderstanding of hadith which often leads to one being anti-hadith. A direct literary interpretations and evaluation of hadith in a framework that ignores several important aspects of Shariah will run the risk of inferring inappropriate conclusions. This work makes an important contribution to the understanding of the attitudes of modern Muslims towards the Prophetic texts in modern times, as it focuses on Progressive Muslims' approach to women-related hadith; bent rib hadith as an example
