Measurements of the Performance of the RSVP Protocol
RSVP (Resource ReSerVation Protocol) is an Internet protocol designed to allow applications reserving network resources. RSVP is used in the QoS context but also as a general purpose signaling control in the MPLS and Traffic Engineering areas. The acceptance of the protocol has been slowed mainly by concerns about its overhead and scalability. This paper describes then the most meaningful techniques standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to overcome this problem, that we imple- mented extending a widespread daemon, and it analyses the results of ex- perimental measurements, comparing them with those of the original RSVP
Un’estensibile architettura object-oriented per la simulazione di processi manifatturieri
Viene presentato un approccio object-oriented alla modellazione ed un’architettura software che ne imple- menta i concetti. La formulazione di tale approccio ha avuto l’obiettivo di ridurre i tempi necessari per l’ideazio- ne di modelli di simulazione grazie ad una maggiore semplicita` rappresentativa. L’implementazione software trae tutti i benefici che il paradigma object-oriented mette a disposizione in termini di riusabilita` del codice, mo- dularita` ed estensibilita`. Sono presentate le ultime estensioni create per soddisfare le esigenze piu` comuni del progettista della simulazione
An Open Source Object-Oriented Architecture for discrete event simulation
Simulation is a valuable tool enabling organizations to investigate possible strategies for improving performances and reducing operating costs. In this work, an Object-Oriented Approach (OOA) to create simulation models and the relative open source software architecture are introduced. The goal of such an approach is to reduce model composition time by means of a direct system-model mapping. The resulting software has the following features: code reusability, modularity and extensibility. In particular, extensibility has a key-role to satisfy some common needs in the field of simulation model development. Moreover such an approach permits to perform fuzzy simulation run, consisting in modelling and simulating systems whose parameters are defined in uncertain form and no statistical distribution can be inferred because of the lack of data.
In such a paper a description of the open source project is made, a comparison is presented between the presented methodology and other open source simulator projects in order to explain the main differences. Finally, an example in the manufacturing field is presented to show the potentiality of our approach
