Novel Correspondence-based Approach for Consistent Human Skeleton Extraction

    Get PDF
This paper presents a novel base-points-driven shape correspondence (BSC) approach to extract skeletons of articulated objects from 3D mesh shapes. The skeleton extraction based on BSC approach is more accurate than the traditional direct skeleton extraction methods. Since 3D shapes provide more geometric information, BSC offers the consistent information between the source shape and the target shapes. In this paper, we first extract the skeleton from a template shape such as the source shape automatically. Then, the skeletons of the target shapes of different poses are generated based on the correspondence relationship with source shape. The accuracy of the proposed method is demonstrated by presenting a comprehensive performance evaluation on multiple benchmark datasets. The results of the proposed approach can be applied to various applications such as skeleton-driven animation, shape segmentation and human motion analysis

    Interacting Agegraphic Dark Energy

A new dark energy model, named "agegraphic dark energy", has been proposed recently, based on the so-called K\'{a}rolyh\'{a}zy uncertainty relation, which arises from quantum mechanics together with general relativity. In this note, we extend the original agegraphic dark energy model by including the interaction between agegraphic dark energy and pressureless (dark) matter. In the interacting agegraphic dark energy model, there are many interesting features different from the original agegraphic dark energy model and holographic dark energy model. The similarity and difference between agegraphic dark energy and holographic dark energy are also discussed.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, revtex4; v2: references added; v3: accepted by Eur. Phys. J. Variable Modified Chaplygin Gas in Anisotropic Universe with Kaluza-Klein Metric

In this work, we have consider Kaluza-Klein Cosmology for anisotropic universe where the universe is filled with variable modified chaplygin gas (VMCG). Here we find normal scalar field ϕ\phi and the self interacting potential V(ϕ)V(\phi) to describe the VMCG Cosmology. Also we graphically analyzed the geometrical parameters named {\it statefinder parameters} in anisotropic Kaluza-Klein model. Next, we consider a Kaluza-Klein model of interacting VMCG with dark matter in the Einstein gravity framework. Here we construct the three dimensional autonomous dynamical system of equations for this interacting model with the assumption that the dark energy and the dark matter are interact between them and for that we also choose the interaction term. We convert that interaction terms to its dimensionless form and perform stability analysis and solve them numerically. We obtain a stable scaling solution of the equations in Kaluza-Klein model and graphically represent solutions.Comment: 11 pages, 13 figure

Changes in the multidisciplinary management of rectal cancer from 2009 to 2015 and associated improvements in short‐term outcomes

Aim: Significant recent changes in management of locally advanced rectal cancer include preoperative staging, use of extended neoadjuvant therapies, and minimally invasive surgery (MIS). This study was aimed at characterizing those changes and associated short‐term outcomes. Method: We retrospectively analysed treatment and outcome data from patients with T3/4 or N+ locally advanced rectal cancer ≤15 cm from the anal verge who were evaluated at a comprehensive cancer center in 2009–2015. Results: In total, 798 patients were identified and grouped into five cohorts based on treatment year: 2009‐2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014‐2015. Temporal changes included increased reliance on MRI staging, from 57% in 2009‐2010 to 98% in 2014‐2015 (p < 0.001); increased use of total neoadjuvant therapy, from 17% to 76% (p < 0.001); and increased use of MIS, from 33% to 70% (p < 0.001). Concurrently, median hospital stay decreased (from 7 to 5 days; p < 0.001), as did the rates of grade III‐V complications (from 13% to 7%; p < 0.05), surgical site infections (from 24% to 8%; p < 0.001), anastomotic leak (from 11% to 3%; p < 0.05), and positive circumferential resection margin (from 9% to 4%; p < 0.05). TNM downstaging increased from 62% to 74% (p = 0.002). Conclusion: Shifts toward MRI‐based staging, total neoadjuvant therapy, and MIS occurred between 2009 and 2015. Over the same period, treatment responses improved, and lengths of stay and the incidence of complications decreased

Notes on dark energy interacting with dark matter and unparticle in loop quantum cosmology

We investigate the behavior of dark energy interacting with dark matter and unparticle in the framework of loop quantum cosmology. In four toy models, we study the interaction between the cosmic components by choosing different coupling functions representing the interaction. We found that there are only two attractor solutions namely dark energy dominated and dark matter dominated Universe. The other two models are unstable, as they predict either a dark energy filled Universe or one completely devoid of it.Comment: 9 pages, 10 figures. v2: Minor revisions, matches published versio

The generalized second law for the interacting generalized Chaplygin gas model

We investigate the validity of the generalized second law (GSL) of gravitational thermodynamics in a non-flat FRW universe containing the interacting generalized Chaplygin gas with the baryonic matter. The dynamical apparent horizon is assumed to be the boundary of the universe. We show that for the interacting generalized Chaplygin gas as a unified candidate for dark matter (DM) and dark energy (DE), the equation of state parameter can cross the phantom divide. We also present that for the selected model under thermal equilibrium with the Hawking radiation, the GSL is always satisfied throughout the history of the universe for any spatial curvature, independently of the equation of state of the interacting generalized Chaplygin gas model.Comment: 8 page

Facile Synthesis of ZnO Nanorods by Microwave Irradiation of Zinc–Hydrazine Hydrate Complex

    Get PDF
ZnO nanorods have been successfully synthesized by a simple microwave-assisted solution phase approach. Hydrazine hydrate has been used as a mineralizer instead of sodium hydroxide. XRD and FESEM have been used to characterize the product. The FESEM images show that the diameter of the nanorods fall in the range of about 25–75 nm and length in the range of 500–1,500 nm with an aspect ratio of about 20–50. UV–VIS and photoluminescence spectra of the nanorods in solution have been taken to study their optical properties. A mechanism for microwave synthesis of the ZnO nanorods using hydrazine hydrate precursor has also been proposed

Statefinder diagnostic and stability of modified gravity consistent with holographic and new agegraphic dark energy

Recently one of us derived the action of modified gravity consistent with the holographic and new-agegraphic dark energy. In this paper, we investigate the stability of the Lagrangians of the modified gravity as discussed in [M. R. Setare, Int. J. Mod. Phys. D 17 (2008) 2219; M. R. Setare, Astrophys. Space Sci. 326 (2010) 27]. We also calculate the statefinder parameters which classify our dark energy model.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, accepted by Gen. Relativ. Gravi
