Viscous effects on a vortex wake in ground effect
Wake vortex trajectories and strengths are altered radically by interactions with the ground plane. Prediction of vortex strength and location is especially important in the vicinity of airports. Simple potential flow methods have been found to yield reasonable estimates of vortex descent rates in an otherwise quiescent ambient background, but those techniques cannot be adjusted for more realistic ambient conditions and they fail to provide satisfactory estimates of ground-coupled behavior. The authors have been involved in a systematic study concerned with including viscous effects in a wake-vortex system which is near the ground plane. The study has employed numerical solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations, as well as perturbation techniques to study ground coupling with a descending vortex pair. Results of a two-dimensional, unsteady numerical-theoretical study are presented in this paper. A time-based perturbation procedure has been developed which permits the use of analytical solutions to an inner and outer flow domain for the initial flow field. Predictions have been compared with previously reported laminar experimental results. In addition, the influence of stratification and turbulence on vortex behavior near the ground plane has been studied
On the nature of the lightest scalar resonances
We briefly review the recent progresses in the new unitarization approach
being developed by us. Especially we discuss the large
scatterings by making use of the partial wave matrix parametrization form.
We find that the pole may move to the negative real axis on the second
sheet of the complex plane, therefore it raises the interesting question
that this `' pole may be related to the in the linear
model.Comment: Talk presented by Zheng at ``Quark Confinement and Hadron

Unlabeled Samples Generated by GAN Improve the Person Re-identification Baseline in Vitro
© 2017 IEEE. The main contribution of this paper is a simple semisupervised pipeline that only uses the original training set without collecting extra data. It is challenging in 1) how to obtain more training data only from the training set and 2) how to use the newly generated data. In this work, the generative adversarial network (GAN) is used to generate unlabeled samples. We propose the label smoothing regularization for outliers (LSRO). This method assigns a uniform label distribution to the unlabeled images, which regularizes the supervised model and improves the baseline. We verify the proposed method on a practical problem: person re-identification (re-ID). This task aims to retrieve a query person from other cameras. We adopt the deep convolutional generative adversarial network (DCGAN) for sample generation, and a baseline convolutional neural network (CNN) for representation learning. Experiments show that adding the GAN-generated data effectively improves the discriminative ability of learned CNN embeddings. On three large-scale datasets, Market- 1501, CUHK03 and DukeMTMC-reID, we obtain +4.37%, +1.6% and +2.46% improvement in rank-1 precision over the baseline CNN, respectively. We additionally apply the proposed method to fine-grained bird recognition and achieve a +0.6% improvement over a strong baseline. The code is available at https://github.com/layumi/ Person-reID-GAN
Camera Style Adaptation for Person Re-identification
© 2018 IEEE. Being a cross-camera retrieval task, person re-identification suffers from image style variations caused by different cameras. The art implicitly addresses this problem by learning a camera-invariant descriptor subspace. In this paper, we explicitly consider this challenge by introducing camera style (CamStyle) adaptation. CamStyle can serve as a data augmentation approach that smooths the camera style disparities. Specifically, with CycleGAN, labeled training images can be style-transferred to each camera, and, along with the original training samples, form the augmented training set. This method, while increasing data diversity against over-fitting, also incurs a considerable level of noise. In the effort to alleviate the impact of noise, the label smooth regularization (LSR) is adopted. The vanilla version of our method (without LSR) performs reasonably well on few-camera systems in which over-fitting often occurs. With LSR, we demonstrate consistent improvement in all systems regardless of the extent of over-fitting. We also report competitive accuracy compared with the state of the art. Is the meson a dynamically generated resonance? -- a lesson learned from the O(N) model and beyond
O(N) linear model is solvable in the large limit and hence
provides a useful theoretical laboratory to test various unitarization
approximations. We find that the large limit and the
limit do not commute. In order to get the correct large spectrum one has
to firstly take the large limit. We argue that the meson may
not be described as generated dynamically. On the contrary, it is most
appropriately described at the same level as the pions, i.e, both appear
explicitly in the effective lagrangian. Actually it is very likely the
meson responsible for the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in a lagrangian
with linearly realized chiral symmetry.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figurs; references added; discussions slightly modified;

Tree level spontaneous R-symmetry breaking in O'Raifeartaigh models
We show that in O'Raifeartaigh models of spontaneous supersymmetry breaking,
R-symmetries can be broken by non-zero values of fields at tree level, rather
than by vacuum expectation values of pseudomoduli at loop level. As a
complement of the recent result by Shih, we show that there must be a field in
the theory with R-charge different from zero and two in order for R-symmetry
breaking to occur, no matter whether the breaking happens at tree or loop
level. We review the example by CDFM, and construct two types of tree level
R-symmetry breaking models with a wide range of parameters and free of runaway
problem. And the R-symmetry is broken everywhere on the pseudomoduli space in
these models. This provides a rich set of candidates for SUSY model building
and phenomenology.Comment: 8 pages; v2: major revision to section 6; v3: minor revision and

Intrinsic Percolative Superconductivity in Heavily Overdoped High Temperature Superconductors
Magnetic measurements on heavily overdoped ,
, and single crystals reveal
a new type magnetization hysteresis loops characterized by the vanishing of
usual central peak near zero field. Since this effect has been observed in
various systems with very different structural details, it reflects probably a
generic behavior for all high temperature superconductors. This easy
penetration of magnetic flux can be understood in the picture of percolative
superconductivity due to the inhomogeneous electronic state in heavily
overdoped regime.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
